Kansas City's Hyde Park neighborhood now confronts a crime epidemic and youth violence displacement following what seems to be an effective entertainment curfew strategy on the Plaza.
Remember that this year Hyde Park has reported scary arson scenes, an uptick in burglaries and youth violence previously this year.

Again, there are previous news reports that confirm some of this hot mess that is following a pattern and contradicts a great deal of the hype coming from City Hall.

Curfew Crime Displacement
The last three weekends on the Plaza have resulted in hundreds of youth gathering, fighting, damaging property, and so on. This wasn't covered whatsoever by the media.
Now with the entertainment district curfew in effect, the media reported that it was working and that the Plaza was relatively quiet last night. What you won't hear from the media is that all the large groups of inner city youth were back at it last night. They knew that they had to kick rocks at nine so they left the Plaza and headed back east. A group of nearly 100 young teens gathered at the QT at 44th and Main, fighting and causing disturbances. They moved into the neighborhood behind the QT and continued their activities. Numerous police cars responded and kids began running through people's yards and behind houses continuing to shout, fight, and damage things. Several attempted and successful armed robberies were reported in the area and a neighbor informed me that the suspects were a group of teens around 13-15 years old who had a gun. Officers ended up catching them and arrested them according to a up that lives nearby and saw everything.
It sounds like the curfew worked for the Plaza but displaced the fights, property damages, and even robberies into the Hyde Park neighborhood. These teens chose NOT to be at Club KC and Mayors Nights. Why? Because there are rules. This issue needs to be addressed asap before the teens injure or kill someone in the area.
Even if the media knew about this one, it wouldn't be reported.

ReplyDeleteFox 4 reported that earlier this year there were a lot of kids just jumping on cars and shooting off guns earlier this spring.
I think some further investigation might reveal a few houses that are the center of the problem so it's not entertainment districts completely causing the fuss and the curfew was a good legislation that helped give some framework for police to fight back.
In this instance police and some kc residents might be victims of their own success which is good to a point but holds problems for the future.

I live in this area and there were police all over the place when I was driving home last night. Something happened because although it is not out of the ordinary to have police driving through the area, the number made people notice. Also, the police were on foot searching the area. I knew something was up but didn't know what.

I always try to avoid that QuipTrip. It's the 63rd Street QuickTrip in Kansas City. Both of those sites I avoid like the plague, even if I'm on empty. Rather risk running out of gas in a safer neighborhood than being the next victim of random gunfire and unnecessary quarrels that result in injury. ReplyDeleteI live in this area and am hardly white privilege. I work extremely hard to pay my bills and live where I do. I live paycheck-to-paycheck and pinch pennies each month. I am not wanting any sympathy but would prefer that your stereotypical comments cease. It is ignorance to believe that just because someone is white that they are privileged. I came from an extremely poor family but worked hard in school, got student loans to go to college, and got a job that although should pay better, I can feel good about.

There's a lot of violence that goes unreported in Kansas City, it's a shame the our news keeps the locals uninformed most of the time. KC is home to a lot more crime than most people know about. That's why so many are surprised when they come down to westport or near the plaza and they get a gun stuck in their face.

ReplyDelete^^^Detroit has true dangerous building. In Kansas City, they refer to vacant property as dangerous buildings. I disagree with tearing down buildings just because they are vacant. Dangerous building means the structure is unsound. That's not the case in Kansas City. Things like roof repair, window repair and yard maintenance would do a lot to improve neighborhoods, even on vacant property. Problem is Black people think its a pasttime of sorts to break windows and vandalize vacant property. That's the mindset of dumb Negroes. Blight their own neighborhoods and communities and pressure the city to tear them down. Instead addressing the real issue. Blacks are destructive for no reason. Funny how vacant properties aren't disturbed in White neighborhoods nor do they beg for them to be torn down.
