TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! REAX: KANSAS CITY PROPERTY RENTAL CRISIS CONTINUES!!!

Recently, we reported on a controversial Kansas City real estate deal that has raised the eyebrows of many City Hall Insiders.

We attempted to contact the folks at Parks to talk about the deal but nobody answers the phones down there . . . Not even the assistants.

Fair play, here's the response to our reporting. You decide . . .

Terry Rynard

I want you to know the facts about the Terry Rynard, Parks and Rec Deputy Director, property rental situation.

Two things:

1. This property was purchased by the city due to the N. Brighton road widening project and has sat empty for around one year. The house will eventually be torn down to make way for road construction. At least now the city is making some money off the property as it waits for construction to start. I have been on this property and it is far from palatial and has many problems. It would be basically un-rentable for many reasons.

2. Ms. Rynard grew up north of the river and graduated from Winnetonka high school in 1982 and was inducted into Winnetonka's sports hall of fame. She began working with KC Parks and Rec in high school and for many years thereafter. She moved on to two other major cities' parks and rec departments (Ann Arbor, MI and Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, each time in a more important roll. She had the opportunity to return to KC Parks and Rec about two years ago and we are extremely lucky to have her talents here. In 2014, she was recognized as one of six women in significant leadership positions in city hall. She is a wonderful person and a great asset to KCMO.

  1. if everything is on the up and up then why is her daughter following her back to kansas city? for a job with the city or a contractor?

  3. Actually, a smart business decision, Tony.

Blind squirrel finds nut, and frequently, your "tipsters" have personal agendas that you don't recognize.

  4. So shouldn't the open market determine the rental value rather than some insider "fix" by the Parks Department? This insider arrangement was common with the KCMO Parks Department years ago. The KC STAR reported on this when it was still a real news paper. Some fellow kept going to the Parks Board asking questions about those special low rents on houses owned by the department and rented to favored employees. Finally the board changed the policy or so the public was told. We might need that fellow from years ago to go back to the board and ask some more questions. A City short on cash should not be discounting rent to high paid administrators.

  5. Hmm. As a member of the public, I would liked a chance to rent a $400000 property for the same price as a 1 bedroom hole in the wall on the west plaza. As a city resident, this deal sucks.

  6. I remember the Star covering the Park Boards giving free rent or grestly reduced rent to certain favored employees. That must be 25 years ago. The public go upset and the board embaressed. The Star covered it well. Times have changed. But the Park Board still thinks it is not accountable to the public. What else are they giving away? Tonykansascity is on target .

  9. Your tipster have the business acumen of 4th graders.

    READ the contract, or;

CONTINUE to find a reason to endlessly piss and moan.

The contract has a 60 day provision for cancellation. Would anyone actually undertake the expense of moving, establishing utilities, and all the other crap that comes with moving if the leaser (that's the one who owns it) has the right to cancel in 60 days?

You answer that "yes", you have never moved before.

City Hall is one screwed up place, but they are not F-ed up 100% of the time. When you try to pull on every metaphorical loose thread, you diminish your ability to be effective. In the process, you have the potential to be extremely hurtful towards people who don't deserve the crap that comes from you "awesome tipsters", who may be using you for an agenda you don't recognize because of your blind zeal.

All this said, you have developed "defense mechanisms" to justify everything you do or people you disparage.

it's too bad. Five years ago, during the Cauthen era, you keep CH on it's toes. Now, the cum, the N-word guy, and a bear with a drinking problem are the face of your blog. In that regard, you follow the typical path of most bloggers.

  10. and 1030 pretty much affirms 1057.

Why do people get joy out of being jerks? And then, can't understand when people don't listen to them?

    Tony?

  11. She needs to hit the gym

  12. Still sounds like a give away to an administrator. Now might be time for the public to see what other properties are owned buy the Parks Dept and which are rented.

    1. Look at ordinance 140719

  13. 1) She has been in town for more than 2 years now, where has she been staying?

    2) She makes over $130,000. Can she not afford something without assistance?

    3) If the property was purchased for a future road widening, is the city not seeking federal funds? They violated rule #1 of MODOT LPA procedures.

    4) Terry is NOT a nice person. She worked for Parks at a lower management level many years ago, but bitterly left after denied promotion due to lack of education requirements. She made a list of everyone who pissed her off back then and is now seeking revenge.

  14. Nobody wants the truth about Terry and the situation. They only care a bout tearing people down.

  15. Don't know if this is the case in this instance, but do nothing ass wipes that add absolutely nothing to their jobs, spin a story as a TKC "Denizen" knowing that Tony will bite, and in so doing, get even with a superior that expects them to work.

Which makes, Tony a Tool, or TT for Tony the Tool.

  17. At least she has a job,Tony. She lives in a house and pays rent, not in her parents basement.

  18. Ever notice that everybody is a "really good person" and "Kansas City is lucky to have" people when they've been caught participating in some sham? Ijs

    ReplyDelete
  19. Tony raging someone who has a job does not constitute a controversy.

There is a ACM at City Hall that is about as stupid as one of the chunks of infrastructure that he does not understand, who is drawing also 150K, and is worth half that. But Tony got a "awesome tip", so it just has to be a controversy.

You pull less work into your blogging than those at the Star that you routinely bitch about.

  20. Hey everybody-- This is a sweetheart deal and all of the other stuff about her attitude her salary and all of that attempted stuff to discredit the rentor is beside the point. The Parks Board have been caught doing similar stuff in the past and they need to be hammered for reverting to questionable practices.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hey I know the guy who called them on their stuff last time (25 years back) maybe he needs to be interviewed about why this is actually probably business as usual for the Parks Board

Ms. Rynard was inducted into Winnetonka's sports hall of fame.

  23. The lawsuits, skilled employees leaving and excelling elsewhere, the hiring of outside favorites with zero experience over 20 year professionals, on and on and on...this is really just the tip of the iceberg. There's about 5 people in that department that keep it going and are respected. She is not one of them.

  26. Time do do away with the park board

  27. Come on everybody, you would do the same thing if you were greedy, untrustworthy, deceitful, bully, snake in the grass, slick and thought you could get away with such. Oh, but Karma's a bitch!!!!!!! And take back the appliances you stole from the community centers to furnish your new subsidized digs!
