While the Missouri GOP getting rid of John Hancock is a great idea and Catherine Hanaway is worthless on her own merits or lack thereof . . . There's simply too many people riding their high horse around on this one and they need to be pulled down off it. Now.

1. Only Losers Play Nice
This nation was founded on genocide and slavery. Children are regularly killed as collateral damage in the cruel but necessary war against terrorism. And most of the consumer goods and nearly all tech is manufactured by way of slave labor. Nice is a brand, not a reality.
2. If The Guy Had Any Real Friends . . . Maybe He Wouldn't Have Killed Himself????
He could only get Danforth's assistant on the phone when he was in a jam. High and mighty talk from on high is a lot easier than taking somebody's call when they're really in a jam. If Danforth was such a great guy and has so much blame to cast down upon the rest of the world . . . Why couldn't Tom Schweich get him on the phone in his hour of need? Yes, that's an ugly question but so is making a political stump speech from the pulpit when some guy is laying there dead and his family is in grief. Only the willfully naive mistakenly think that that there isn't something to gain from "taking the high road" especially when political adversaries can be cast into a negative light.
3. Show-Me Your Consultant Before Talking Civility Garbage And It's Most Likely You Have Somebody Else Do Your Dirty Work
Politicos can be nice more easily nowadays because an army of consultants and back-channel loyalists are out there to kill the cow while the nice politico serves up a steak to the public.
4. Maybe Tom Schweich Had Bigger Problems Than Political Bullying?!?!
Nobody really believes the MSM story about a cultural heritage whisper campaign . . . Missouri might very well be antisemitic but politics in flyover country simply aren't a high stakes game in the real world. Because we want to stay alive for the next Swimsuit issue where the cover broad finally does reveal her love muffin . . . TKC doesn't really care why Tom Schweich died but the political narrative doesn't make sense and students of history realize that only time will reveal that even the most horrific atrocities were, in fact, an inside job.
5. Killing Opponents With Kindness Is A Classic Kansas City Strategy
Mayor Sly James beat Mike Burke 4 years ago because he tricked him into a "civil" discourse where he politely earned home field advantage in an exchange of niceties wherein the public mistakenly believe that Sly's "charisma" was somehow more important than Burke's experience. This was unfortunate because Mike Burke did a great deal of the work in directly confronting former Mayor Mark Funkhouser and calling him out directly.
And all this is to say that capitalists believe in competition and the free market which isn't always "nice" but serves the best interests of consumers when practiced (relatively) fairly.
For example, pointless and moralistic recent resolution of the city council might publicly endorse civility but these are the very same people who were cool with cutting the throats of voters by rigging a streetcar election.
So for these reasons and so many more . . . The call for civility needs to be identified as nothing more than just the same old politics that uses the death of some poor, nerdy guy who didn't have have any friends to gain political advantage . . . Which isn't really that nice at all.

A reporter for the Star gave Dave this name I think was 1973 after Dave rescued a lady during a fire in her apartment building and the name stuck so yes lots of us know him by that name and many only know him by that name.
