TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY COMMUNICATIONS DUDE CHRIS HERNANDEZ CONFRONTED WITH LOCAL NEWSIE COMPLAINTS!!!

The number of Kansas City journalists covering City Hall is growing smaller by the day and the last remaining newsies seem increasingly frustrated with their treatment from local government officials.

Moreover . . .

A couple of Kansas City newsies might be feeling a bit lonely and betrayed given that one of their former colleagues has jumped to the other side of the public information game and now stands with Mayor Sly and City Hall.

To wit . . .

NEWSIE COMPLAINTS RAGE AGAINST CITY HALL COMMUNICATIONS DUDE CHRIS HERNANDEZ ALLEGEDLY "DRINKING MAYOR SLY'S KOOL-AID" AND THWARTING KANSAS CITY JOURNALISTS BEHIND THE SCENES!!!

The accusations are exceptionally pointed because Mr. Hernandez was one of the best journalists in Kansas City not so long ago.

Moreover . . . Given the skill of Mr. Hernandez, he's exceptionally adept at knowing how to strike back against newsies in search of the scoop.

Here's the word . . .

"He's arguing with us about document requests that should not be a big deal. Forcing us to Sunshine everything rather just help the media get the right information. He called ################'s boss and told him to back off on a recent story. Chris should know that it's a big deal for the director of the Communications Office to go over a reporter's head and talk to management about cancelling a story. It's a shame to see him switch sides and play the Mayor's hitman. It reminds me a lot of Joe Miller and how he went off the deep-end for Funkhouser."

That last comment stings and but the allegation of a media dude going to a reporter's boss might also be over the line of a gentleman's agreement that exists between local gov and the press . . .

As for the (former Mayor Funky Communications Dude) Joe Miller reference . . .

Despite it all, people still like Mayor Sly a great deal more than the FAILED Funkhouser crew . . . For now.

We've reached out to Chris Hernandez for comment on this story and we'll update or post again if he has anything to say about the Kansas City newsie "Kool-aid" drinking frustration.

  1. Chris is a nice guy. Reporters and the City will always be at each other's throats. As well it should be.

  2. Feathers always get ruffled when the former colleague goes to work for the other guy.
I don't know why reporters would think that Hernandez is going to funnel a bunch of shit to them because he used to be "one of them".
Grow up guys and gals. That isn't the way the world works.

  3. Why is it a big deal for the media to sunshine request something? Are the lazy or to busy eating?

    1. It's a waste of money since lawyers on both sides have to weigh in. If you like wasting money, you should run for office. The city needs dumb people to waste money.

    2. Umm 155 that's complete bullshit

  4. Chris is awesome.....this sounds like jealousy from some half wit reporter

  5. The Star seems to be willing to blame everyone and everything for their lack of success except the most obvious: a one dimensional editorial board. Hire some conservative voices and put a few windows in that echo chamber.

  6. Hey DeAnn,

Is KCTV 5 OK with you being one of TKC's tipsters, especially while you are supposed to be working?

  7. The vast majority of Kansas Citians have drunk Sly's Kool-Aide.

Good thing for Sly that these rubes don't travel and see how far this City is falling behind other cities. Think Des Moines!

  8. Paco is a tool because one of his "denizens" does not have the stones to bring it up with Chris or run it up the news hierarchy.

No one should have the opportunity to throw off accusations in an anonymous manner.

    Paco=TOOL

  9. If Hernandez is calling a newsie's boss in an attempt to cancel their story, then Chris is a shit.

    Mr. Tony,
Chris Hernandez is no longer a reporter. His former peers will not get a free pass into the files of city hall.
These same reporters failed miserably when they did not question colleagues about their allegiance to Funkhouser.
I draw your attention to the disgraceful actions of one Star reporter who wrote for Funkhouser lie based press conference notes trying to discredit the woman who successfully sued Funkhouser. The Star staff knew of these actions and did nothing. Punks..

Now Mr. Tony, if an editor pulls a story based on Hernandez's phone call just how weak is the Star?

As a resident I would like most everything obtainable under the Sunshine act to be online. What else are we gonna do with all of our Google data space?

Now Mr. Chris that don't mean you get to lie willy nilly. And if you drink too much Kool Aid you might as well go live in Jonestown.

  11. Sly is far worse than Funk if you care about Kansas City's finances.

  12. Oh come on, Tony. Situations like these are expected when you are a modern day reporter. Public information officers should be renamed public information prevention officers. Their job is to prevent their employer from being depicted in a negative light at all costs. Obviously gay boy's job is on the line if he has to harass editors and producers. "Communications" workers are a detriment to society and solely work to obfuscate the truth; anti-First Amendment.

A textbook example of the proliferation of corporatism in America. Land of the fee and home of the slave.

  13. Hey 12:26, Chris is not a nice guy. Nice guys have integrity... Chris is a tool - I see them everyday in my business... Tools and puppets who are told what to do.

He is a city hall employee, he is supposed to keep the public informed and not work as a campaign worker for the mayor.

why do we allow this kind of corruption in kc?

If chris is trying to kill stories, then he needs to go.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Public INFO NOW, Hernandez's job is to solely portray his employer in a positive light. PR douche bags always filter out the negative/behind-the-scenes stuff and gloss it over with minor details. Communications/PR hacks are a journalist's evil twin. They prevent the truth while we expose the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  17. But why do reporters tend to go to "dark side?" $$$. Bottom line. A reporter's salary is worse than a teacher's.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hernandez on the dark side does not make us happy, he was the best back when he worked for the people.

    ReplyDelete
  19. No one is surprised Hernandez is a fascist. Go back and look at the comments when Hernandez took the job.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Chris is a rude, self absorbed egotistical jerk. He can play the nice guy role but he is anything but that. Rude, petty and arrogant. His betrayal of the guy who got him his job is evidence enough of his lack of integrity and ruthlessness.
