Translation . . . Mayor Sly's people are putting a nice face on this because they want it done QUICKLY and by the book.
There are a couple of folks who doubt the Mayor and Council have the authority to do as much . . . We noted the move to remove Brooks when OUR BLOG COMMUNITY BROKE THIS STORY FIRST . . .
Here's the charter passage that proves it out . . .
"Discipline of members, including the Mayor. The Council may punish its members for disorderly conduct or violation of the Council's rules, or for misconduct in office. By an affirmative vote of nine members of the Council, the Council may expel a member for disorderly conduct or violation of the Council's rules, or for misconduct in office. No member shall be expelled unless notified in writing of the charge or charges and given an opportunity to be heard in a public hearing."
That part about "misconduct in office" doesn't depend on a court case or verdict . . .

WORD IS: A COALITION OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY LEADERS ARE ASKING COUNCIL DUDE BROOKS TO RESIGN AND SPARE EVERYONE THE EMBARRASSMENT OF A VOTE TO REMOVE HIS TARNISHED AND UNTENABLE CITY COUNCIL SEAT!!!
It's an honest effort that has reached out to the clergy and hopes they won't defend one of their own during a second, embarrassing incident.
Sadly, in the political sense, Council Dude Brooks seems rather shameless and his stonewalling tactic have avoided any forthright discussion of the topic.

They promise all kinds of gummint money if elected and usually follow through. Then their constituents are lost on this behavior but do not give shit one as long as they get the nickel from uncle Sam. This mentality and behavioral patterns are exactly why Detroit turned out the way it did and I am sure more cities will as well. I'd say expect more from your leaders but these folks do not care one ounce. As long as they're taken care of. Sad when you really think about it.

When Councilman Pastor Dude Brooks was not REMOVED from office, or effectively shunned by the other members, following his nude cellphone pictures and extortion escapade, the Mayor and Council became GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION.
The remedy is CLEAR....Mayor Sly and ALL Council members should RESIGN their positions.
Now, while I won't hold my breath waiting for this to occur, KCMO residents should neither hold their breath waiting for professional and ethical management to assume leadership of their government and public school system.
