TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! FULL TEXT: CLAY CHASTAIN OPPOSITION TO HIS OWN LIGHT RAIL PLAN AFTER CITY HALL BALLOT LANGUAGE SWITCHEROO!!!

Clay Chastain is justifiably raging after Kansas City politicos have shut him and swagger-jacked his light rail initiative.

And now . . .

CLAY CHASTAIN ANNOUNCES HIS OPPOSITION TO THE TRANSIT QUESTIONS HE HELPED PUT ON THE BALLOT!!!

There's a lot more to report on this but for now let's check Clay in his own words ONLY on TKC:

Clay Chastain reverses course, now opposes City Ballot Questions #1 & #2

Clay Chastain and the light rail campaign are reversing course and now oppose voter approval of the City's two tax initiative ballot questions (#1 & #2) slated for the November 4 KC election.

Whereas...

1. the City's two tax questions (there is no mention they are associated with the initiative petition for light rail) maybe unconstitutional, and a court will not hear our case until December 8, 2015;

2. Sly James and the council refuse to pass a separate resolution (#140) that would commit the city to using the taxes for the light rail initiative project 4,000 petition signers mandated;

3. voter approval would give Sly and the council a blank (fill in the project) $1.25 billion check (over the next 25 years) to use as they please;

4. and the fact the Sly James- led KC government is trying to manipulate voters and the outcome of a democratic election;

it would not be wise nor right to ask the voters of Kansas City to vote for such a dark election scheme hoping we could straighten it all out after the vote.

As one might expect, there is strong division amongst the light rail campaign over this radical reversal of positions given it took 3-years (and 5 court battles with Sly and the City) just to get something before the voters. Nevertheless, as the leader, I urge all voters not to be railroaded by Sly and to vote no on KC Questions #1 & #2 November 4.

Then I urge all KC voters to elect a new honest mayor and thinking council in 2015.

P.S. Don't expect to go unopposed in your bid for re-election Sly.

  1. Don't agree with Clay but it's hard to justify how the city did this, they are really bending election law with this strategy. Why can't voters decide with all the facts?

  2. Clay is a maniac, his "plan" is horrendous, but what the city is doing is shitty.

    I voted for the streetcar, plan on voting yes on chastain's thing (hoping the it will expand the streetcar system at least to the plaza with the money) as I will vote yes on any transit investment it before me, but the not listing the reason for the tax question is totally unethical, if legal.

  3. Clay finally wised up that the City has run the clock on him in court, and that this will be a BLANK CHECK for nasty Sly James and his corrupt crew to do whatever they want to with this money. Count on this being defeated big time, just like the streetcar boondoggle - yes it is a BOONDOGGLE Mensa boy -look it up if you don't know the definition.

    And yes, Sly can count on a very nasty re-election bid. No one likes him.

  5. this city administration HAS to go. They are all a bunch of thieves don't trust any of them or anyone affiliated with them. Corruption and Pendergast mentality abounds at City Hall.

  9. I like the irony from the first comment that the city is bending election law when the courts told them what they can and can't do, after a ruling from the state supreme court

    1. Did they lose? Cuz I was downtown the other day and it sure looked like they were laying tracks on main...

      And because I can read a statement of votes cast.

  19. Oh, they won that one, but they had to rig the vote to do it.

  21. We lost and that is in our brains and it can not be forgotten. It is growing and will become a barrier which will not allow us to plan carefully or work hard enough to WIN. We are Losers. We are losers

  22. to 6:34pm

    they didn't rig the vote. that would be the Republican legislature with the assistance of big retail business interests. assisted by not one but four judges with a lawyer against the election involved.

    If it was rigged, you'd think one of those people would have noticed, especially the lawyer against the formation election.
