TKC QUESTION OF THE DAY: IS KANSAS CITY FIREFIGHTER ANTHONY BRUNO DEADLY SHOOTING AKIN TO MICHAEL BROWN FERGUSON, MISSOURI KILLING?!?!

At last night's protest there was an important Kansas City rhetorical tactic at work that deserves discussion rather than causal acceptance.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY FIREFIGHTERS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF THE LATE ANTHONY BRUNO WERE OUT IN FULL FORCE LOBBYING THE PUBLIC IN ORDER TO GARNER SUPPORT FOR A WRONGFUL DEATH LAWSUIT AGAINST THE KCPD!!!

The group has been part of several recent protests against police violence but last night was the biggest demonstration of their efforts so far.

While grabbing photos and video of the protest, I stumbled upon Anthony Bruno's dad who seemed really upset with TKC and alleged that I "spoke against his son." He was talking with protestors and seemingly trying to draw a similarity to the Anthony Bruno deadly shooting during an altercation and the current Michael Brown uprising.

Fact: TKC didn't "speak against" anybody but this blog is about FREEDOM OF SPEECH and any argument foist upon the public deserves critical analysis . . .

Admittedly, we did ask: Would Kansas City newsies be just as upset about this police shooting during an altercation if Anthony Bruno was black??? In fairness, that's exactly the argument that Bruno supporters were making last night . . . The important difference is that witnesses say Michael Brown had his hands up and was defenseless . . . Meanwhile, there's video of Anthony Burno breaking the orbital bone of a cop's face during an altercation . . .

So . . .

YOU DECIDE: IS THE KCFD ANTHONY BRUNO DEADLY POLICE SHOOTING AKIN TO THE MICHAEL BROWN INCIDENT?!?!

That's the argument that Bruno friends, family and supporters are making as they engage the public at the grassroots level  . . .

The Pitch is accepting their story without any critical questions . . . Our TKC blog community is LITERALLY the only place in Kansas City were the topic is up for debate.

Developing . . .

  1. if the cop had broken anthony's "orbital bone" when he blind sided anthony in the alley, would anthony have been justified to shoot hubbard?

How about the video that was "enhanced and broken down, frame by frame that showed the cop pounding on Bruno before he fought back"...it included audio.

Since you are happy to post without verification, why not mention that audio/video.

No, TKC does have a slant when it comes to KCPD /KCFD. While this poster has no affection for either, if you want to tout "Free Speech" constantly, how about a little "HONESTY" once in a while. Your bias is obvious.

Cops, whether on/off duty now have the mindset that it is a "US (Cops) vs Them (citizens). That's total bullshit.

Hopefully, the Michael Brown killing will be the beginning of the end to the Nazi like tactics and equipment the Police are not using against the very citizens they are tasked with "PROTECTING".

Remember the time that the shooting up of an elementary school was going to be the catalyst for gun law changes?

    Yeah, me neither.

Such will be the result of all this strum and drang.

  8. 7:54 you are 100% on point. The enhanced video from One KC Place tells a very different story of police brutality! Kicking Bruno over and over while down on the ground! Is that taught in the police academy as a tactic to get an intoxicated suspect under control? Where's the video Tony? Why no mention of it? Are you suppressing free speech and showing your bias here? Post the video Tony or you have proved to your readers that you try to drive an agenda in your reporting just as bad as the Star or the Pitch that you claim to be better than! Don't be a hypocrite!!!!!!!

Suggestion to TKC. Look at the photo's you posted. First pic shows Hubbard bashing Bruno.

I guess you would just lay there and pee yourself while the animal beats you to death.

Second photo shows Bruno fighting back and then gets killed for defending himself.

I guess eating crow after losing a public battle/lawsuit makes one:"are you fucking high or wasted or delusional or what? "

    Nice try, but fail !

  10. Don't see any similarities here. One black, one white. Bruno had already committed violent crime, the man in Ferguson was guilty of jaywalking. The KCPD cop may not have followed protocol but when protocol is an excuse for inaction I want the cop to break it. By all accounts the cop in Ferguson started with a profanity laced command. Not professional, just designed to provoke confrontation.

  11. In both cases the officers were attacked prior to shooting the suspect. In both cases they could have avoided death by, first not breaking the law and second not physically attacking the police.

    ReplyDelete
  12. How about the rest of the story Tony?? What about the conflict of interest with Judge Brian Round? The only reason he's not presiding is because The Pitch called him out for his previous bias! This guy is a KCPD Crook too! Tell that story Tony! Or are you a kiss ass to the cops so they don't harrassment you for looking homeless at quick-trip? Better be nice to tha man so he don't kick you too!

  13. Some people wouldn't care if Anthony was the Tianamen square protester, they'd still take the side of the police no matter what. Fact is there are enough people in the town that think the police are infallible. Until it happens to them, they won't understand.

  14. I hear all the comments about militarized police forces. Funny, we don't see any of that in the cozy suburbs. Just nice families, great schools, lots of BBQ and hot moms with fake boobs jogging through the 'hood in spandex. Yeah, life is good for the upper middle class. Maybe inner city folk should aspire to the suburbs. Naaaa, being a "fool with a 'tude" is a lot easier.

Ever think that they are "militarized" because the knuckleheads they are dealing with are also armed?

  15. 8:11 where did Bruno attack Hubbard first? Where's that video? Where's your proof? He was tripped up by Hubbard and kicked repeatedly as shown in the One KC Place security video. I didn't see Bruno hit Hubbard till the end when he realized he was gonna die that night! The final knee drop into his head by Hubbard after he pleaded "Can you not be nice" says it all!!!! KCPD Cop brutality is alive and well! They just haven't killed a black kid on camera, YET. Nice to know they have a whole system to cover it up from the Internal Affairs unit to Jackson Co Judges!

The fucking cops are out of control...they do what they want, when they want. Then they make up a story to fit the crime. When it's you or your family you will take a different look. It's just a matter of time till it's YOU.

  22. The cop should be punished. He didn't follow his own department's rules. Those rules are to protect that officer too. He put himself if a poor situation. What if the perpetrator had a gun? That is why cops always work in pairs. At the point that Hubbard took chase all he knew was he was chasing someone who had just had some sort of violent encounter. Then Hubbard decided that he didn't have to show any respect and he had the authority to kick someone down on the ground. I wonder if Hubbard would think his actions were appropriate if that was some other cop and his wife was the one getting kicked and manhandled. Hubbard is a bully, the only thing Anthony did wrong was let Hubbard know he was being disrespectful and that he didn't have to accept a cop beating him.

  23. Bruno assaulted a cab driver, ran from the cops and resisted arrest. Then he beat the cop to the point of near unconsciousness.
We still don't know the full details on the Brown shooting but the officer in question had to receive medical treatment.
Considering the clout of the Fire department, if there was an shred of evidence that the Bruno shooting and the alleged enhanced video was legit, then the cop would have been charged.
I suspect The Brown case will show the cop was attacked and the witnesses who claim the cop dragged a 280 pound man into his car window, will prove to be bullshit.
The bigger question, and one that will remain to draw zero attention, 5 young blacks killed by other black males in Chicago since the Brown shooting, and not a fucking protest from Blacks, lib whites, fire dept douche bags, or Toni Bones and cop block. A more phony bunch of ass hats does not exist.

  28. YOU DECIDE: IS THE KCFD ANTHONY BRUNO DEADLY POLICE SHOOTING AKIN TO THE MICHAEL BROWN INCIDENT?!?!

It is similar in the sense that Anthony Bruno and Michael Brown both violated the CARDINAL RULE of citizen engagement with the police. Law enforcement officers are tasked with preserving the peace in our society. They are not infallible, and they alone do not get to decide the ultimate outcome of legal disputes. BUT....those who do not cooperate with police officers, and certainly those who fight with or even attack police officers, cross the proverbial "line in the sand" and put their own lives at risk by so blatantly disregarding a societal standard.

Anthony Bruno and Michael Brown would both be alive today, but for their own short-sighted reckless disregard for our society's code of civilized conduct.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's odd to me that KCFD let's their employees wear the Bruno shirts on duty when they have to interface directly with police. KCFD just has so little control over employee conduct or what? Off duty, they should do and wear whatever they want.

  37. KC needs to take it's police force off the market. Uniformed police officers should be barred for working for a private employer while operating under the color of state or local police authority. In any other profession this would be a questionable if not unethical practice. Why prostitute your police force ?

    2. Do that and calls for service go through the roof making response times huge. Think about every place that you see a officer working in a uniformed off duty capacity. Power and light, Westport, the plaza, convenience stores, sporting events. If no officers were working at those places the on-duty district officers would be called to handle every shoplifting, drunk, or disturbance leaving little to no officers available for crimes from burglaries to rapes to shootings. It's a lot to think about isn't it when you look at the whole picture.

  38. That the cop thought that Mr Brown was trying to grab his gun will always be a he said she said situation. Did Mr Brown get the gun? Obviously, no. Did Mr Brown run away? His body was 35 feet from the patrol car. I doubt that the officer drug him that far, so yes, Mr Brown ran away. The officer maintained control of his wepon, and fired his entire clip into Mr Brown. Two shots his him in the back, spinning him around so the officer could put the rest of his rounds into the front of Mr Brown. The officer became judge, jury and executioner. All in 9 rounds. For a) jay walking? Or b) disobeying an officers commands?
    Really? Just wow.

  39. Not even remotely the same.
Bruno was on top of the cop, relentlessly beating him. The cop's injuries were severe.
Brown was several feet away from the cop, hands in the air.

  42. Not related. Yes both suspects who died were idiots but that is where the closeness of any relationship ends. But before you can have what the street people want to call justice you first have to have respect for the law. That's a lot of the problem today people have no respect for the law and those who enforce them when they get caught breaking the law. Take Toni Bonse to make a point. Every fool knows when you are driving a car you have to have a driver licence on you. Failing to do so can get you a ticket. Act like an asshole to the cop who stops you for sure will get you a ticket. The you go to court and act like a fool again and wonder why the Judge has no mercy on you. I have been stopped before with out a DL and no tags and drove away with no ticket from a KS state trooper. I explained to the trooper with respect the issue at hand and he chewed my butt for a minute and sent me down the highway. By all rights I should have had two tickets based on what the law says. But there was some circumstances as I explained calmly and as I said with respect and he gave me a free pass I am sure because of it. Mrs Bruno in my opinion should be up for an ethics violation as a lawyer for her role in the night she claims her husband was murdered. To bad someone won't file that complaint. As an officer of the court she allowed her husband to leave the scene of a crime of which he was already guilty of committing assault and that is against the law. To get and gain respect one must give respect. Toni Bones, the Bruno's and the Michael Browns of the world have no idea what respect is.

  43. Suicide by cop is a suicide method in which a suicidal individual deliberately acts in a threatening way, provoking a lethal response from a law enforcement officer or other legitimately armed individual, such as being shot to death.

    ReplyDelete
  44. If the store clerk had drawn and shot Brown in the midst of his felony robbery this case would be closed. My fear here is that the police officer allowed too much time to pass from the alleged altercation at the police car and the actual shooting.

This reminds me of the Rodney King case. Everyone in LA knew King was a low life thug, who may we have deserved to have his ass kicked, but under the circumstances kicking his ass was the wrong move. In this case you have a shit bag thief and robber. There were ample situations where this shit bag could have been off'd righteously. My fear is that you are never going to legally rationalize shooting that bastard after he walked away from that patrol car.
