TKC FACT CHECK: KANSAS CITY MEDIA OFFER MORE SYMPATHETIC COVERAGE WHEN WHITE PEOPLE FIGHT THE LAW!!!
Let's consider just a bit of disparity amid Kansas City media representations for just a moment and spot a longstanding trend made a bit more obvious as of late.
To wit . . .
LATELY WE'VE SEEN KANSAS CITY MEDIA STAND UP FOR WHITE PEOPLE WHO RUN AFOUL OF THE LAW . . . WHICH IS COOL BUT MINORITY RESIDENTS RARELY GET THAT KIND OF CONSIDERATION!!!
Of course, we have examples . . .
- Our bloggy community wasn't so tolerant of a Kansas City firefighter who fought with a cop in a deadly altercation . . . But media really went out of their way to make the guy's case.
- When it comes to the question of mental illness, local media is really quick to blame the government for the tragic aftermath of a recent showdown: Grief for a suffering soldier, killed in a standoff with Kansas City police
- And of course, local media gave a lot of time this week to a white lady fighting the injustice of property codes and standing up for literacy . . . In Fairway.
And while all of these stories could be debated on their own merits . . . However, it's simply a matter of fact that people of color beating down a cop, getting in armed confrontation with authorities or battling city codes would receive the same loving treatment from the public or newsies. Natch.
The more you know . . .
