The landscape of Kansas City politics is constantly changing and alliances never last for long. Today, a great many Kansas City neighborhood and anti-tax enthusiasts are raging because City Hall is on course to give away some big time subsidy to one of the richest corporations in all of the world.
To wit...
TODAY'S TKC QUESTION: ON THIS DAY OF FAST FOOD PROTEST DOES KANSAS CITY HATE BURNS AND MAC FOR BEING GREEDY??!?!
Brief aside . . . Speaking of contradictions . . . Among the many sociopaths who comprise this town's political scene a few of you d-bags have raged and touted TKC corporate sponsorship lies (I wish they were true) because we've criticized Mayor Sly's lavish spending. YET TODAY WE EXPECT A VEHEMENT DEFENSE of an upcoming corporate handout. So Koch Bros corporate cash in politics is evil but a KCMO cash giveaway to Burns & Mac is okay??? WTF? Fact: TKC will take a check from whoever but nobody has offered and I'm too sexily shy to ask!!! The bottom line: We're sad to report that Mayor's Sly's acolytes take to bloggy hateration just like the old school Funkhouser crew. Sigh.
Anyhoo . . .
While politics makes strange bedfellows . . . Let's all just admit that nobody wins when Big Mac honcho Greg Graves and Mayor Sly decide to team up.
Again, Anti-Tax activists are going bonkers over this big deal and feeding frenzy that will be approved today . . .
A choice quotes from a recent KSHB story. . .
Patrick Tuohey from Show-Me Institute on the deal that could be worth $42 million:
"It doesn't create jobs for the investment that public dollars are poured into . . . What this amounts to is connected, well-heeled people trading on that connection to take money from taxpayers, to take money from the city to enrich themselves."
CHECK OUT THE BIG MAC ATTACK CITING THE KANSAS CITY E-TAX!!!
And here's why our bond rating is gonna drop . . .
"The people need to understand that the money they're paying in the earnings tax isn't being used for city services. It's being diverted for political favors for people who are connected."
Let's not forget that Kansas City Power Broker Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Circo is part of the effort that ALREADY DELIVERED A UNANIMOUS COMMITTEE APPROVAL YESTERDAY of this big money deal.
She also put on a candidate school for KCMO Council hopefuls that our blog community took to task.
Anyhoo . . . The question is out . . . Now it's time for this blog community to maybe try and blame somebody besides people of color for this town's long slide into bankruptcy.
Developing . . .
Cindy Circo Kansas City Mayor 2020.

Business should not be given selective tax breaks for the same reason you don't pay ransom to kidnappers - it just encourages more of the same. Burns and Mac were going to build that building regardless of tax breaks. Their only alternative was t abandon their entire complex and move to KS.
ReplyDeleteI still see Cindy and Jan dancing on Funks headstone. Never will I have respect for either again
ReplyDeleteMr. Tony,
ReplyDeleteThis TIF is illegal. Flat out illegal.
Now where do Kansas City Missouri residents sign up for a class action lawsuit against Mayor Sly, City Council and the TIF Commission?
You can't blame Burns and Mac for taking money rabidly thrown their way.
Oh hell I cut a jig when that bastard funk and his pet got their comeuppance.
ReplyDelete"OPM" Sly James is so needy. He is paying with our money to be socially accepted in this town.
I interviewed there once. Biggest bunch of assholes I ever wasted my time with.
ReplyDeleteSLY FUCKING SOLD US OUT!
ReplyDeleteSexy Cindy is a whore what's new.
ReplyDeleteThey probably hired Bob Mayer to secure this. Only Bob has the juice to make something as blatantly illegal as this happen.
ReplyDeleteCan the local elites "prop up" the KC economy? Are they up to the task of borrowing and blowing enough tax payer and consumer tax money to prop up a debt and bubble-dependent economy?
ReplyDeleteBurns and Mac have been corrupting Councilmen and Woman for a long time.

For those who really know something about this deal, talking about it at the link above will have greater impact than talking about it here.
Wealth trickles up
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that Patrick Tuohey, submissive whore to the comfortable and bigotted, does not think this is a great idea? I guess he did not get paid as part of the scheme.
ReplyDeleteGive this crew that took over from Funk some credit. They've turned corruption into a new art form. No one even notices it.
ReplyDeleteCK is a corporate-driven city in a corporate-driven state in a corporate-driven country. You're just a non-corporate person. Your concerns are irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteThey are giving away our future revenue and we won't be able to maintain roads, bridges, sewer or water lines. Let alone Cops and firemen or other basic city services. It's gonna be a bumpy road! Literally.
ReplyDeletePIAC funds for streetcar studies, earnings tax funds support multi-billion dollar corporations... I love this town.
ReplyDeleteThis is criminal!! Why should any citizen pay taxes when the biggest pigs at the trough don't have to pay taxes!!
ReplyDeleteWe are without any leadership, politcal or corporate!!
Greg Graves should bow his head in shame, and quit talking about public policy or the border war!!
C'mon Tony. Get off it. Every time you mention Patsy you're cupping the Koch Brother's testicles.
ReplyDeleteYou've always had the "little guy" attitude but here you are trying to pawn yourself off as something you're not or never were.

I have proudly lived in KCMo for over 50 years, but I am absolutely fed up with the bullshit from city hall. Our house is for sale and we're moving away as soon as we can sell it. I know my moving won't matter to anyone else, but at least I know MY money will no longer be under the control of KC Shitty Hall.
ReplyDeleteSo long, suckers.
WORTH REPEATING

The Show Me attitude is so self defeating. You crucify your own while turning a blind eye to our of state ventures robbing you. Burns & Mac gives back to the community. I would rather political favors go to them than other non-local companies.
ReplyDeleteGreg Graves is HOT
ReplyDeleteThe Democrat corruption stench is finally going catch up with them and here is evidence. Mike Sanders is preparing to leave the Democrat Party and prepare to run for Congress as a Republican. This not only explains Sanders' hiring a Republican woman as his spokesperson, as was discussed yesterday.(Ms. Carter is an active member of the TEA Party-oriented Freedom Lovers group.) In addition, Sanders Democrat fundraiser has been calling all over Jefferson City asking for a job because Sanders will announce his party switch late this year.
ReplyDeleteThis kind of thing would never happen if the Democrat Party was not rotten to the core with corruption. Sanders is ready to run from it because it is only a matter of time before Democrats start going to jail.
No one ever goes to jail, no one ever sees any consequences. The crooks line their pockets with public cash while the city's schools, sewers, roads and law enforcement all crumble.
ReplyDeleteEveryone always gets to keep their money. Always.
These Corporations must privately snicker about how they can sell increasingly ridiculous projects as well as get hideous tax breaks (guaranteed by future generations of bag holders)to CK City Hall.
ReplyDelete11:55 your criteria for business subsidies is "they give back to the community"? I'll make a deal, they keep whatever they "give back" and the taxpayers keep whatever belongs to them.
ReplyDeleteBurns and Mac Exec's can now give back to community - meaning prop up Maserati sales and purchasing those $10 million vacation condos.
ReplyDeleteWhat a deal.
Sanders has not come to work or a few days. Laying low?
ReplyDeleteAs long as the numb nuts of KC allow this to happen it will only get worse.
ReplyDeleteShame on you Greg Graves! You are stealing from your fellow citizens...or do you even live in KC? I doubt it. I hope you rot in hell. As for Sly and his council of corruption, I hope you all join Greg down below.
ReplyDeleteCan't the taxing jurisdictions veto this? That means you Skippy Sanders!
ReplyDeleteOK assholes....just send it across the STATE LINE..at least we'll get some tax revenue...too send to the AIRWICK the KCMO SCHOOL DISTRICT and maybe a little piece of pie for all our favorites....AIM4PEACE....there I feel better now!
ReplyDeleteIf they went across the state line the only loser would be Kansas City with the earnings tax. The other taxing entities would be just as well off, the building cannot move and they get nothing from the employees who live in JoCo anyway.

ReplyDeleteFifty dollar fine for needlessly working into your copy the overused 19th century phrase "While politics makes strange bedfellows..."
Yup, that Tony keeps on winning!
The revolution will be televised my brothers and sisters. CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC and Fox will carry it 24/7. You can follow the revolution on Twitter and Netflix and you can like the revolution on Facebook and friend it and give it a thumbs up. If you think this, you are stupid. When the shit hits the fan and all the brothers and sisters of all colors take to the streets, you better be watching revolution on your television or on the internet because if you are in the streets they pigs will kill you with their armored weapon and their automatic weapon. The real revolution is over and the pigs have already won.
ReplyDeleteThe revoloution will not be televised.
ReplyDeleteIt will just consist of whiny white men with too much free time, stirring each other up on anonymous internet comments sections then clicking back over to youporn.
Real Che Guevara shit, comrade...
Burns & Mac rape KC while Black & Veatch rapes Iraq and Afganistan.
ReplyDeleteThe cops need to shoot somebody quick to calm this city down.
