"The deal with the theater at the Plaza and people under 18 being at the Plaza after the curfew (which is currently 9pm) is that the theater insists on selling tickets to People under 18 years of age no matter what time it is. According to cops at the Plaza, Highwoods supports the theater's actions and also supports the police removing teens from the Plaza after the teens purchase theater tickets but before the teens sit down to start watching the movies they paid to see.
"Other than Highwoods' blatant disregard for its patrons, the Plaza and Westport were both fun tonight!"

ReplyDeleteThe real problem is the animal-like behavior, lack of respect, lack of responsibility of the youth and their handlers. You could drop off the same size and age group of non-feral youth to be served by the theater and nothing would happen.
ReplyDeleteThe city is always looking for ways to confiscate money to pay for pet projects so why don't they start treating the theater like they treat bars? Fine the shit out of them for selling to underage patrons after hours and if that doesn't work shut them down for a few days. That will get their attention real fast. Since the theater seems to be the focus of the problem they need to confronted and dealt with. Police have better things to do than babysit eastside spawn.

Where else can the Negro youth go to watch their hero's kill white people ? Yes, it's the movie house. They get in the theater, get all "sugared" up with candy and pop...then it's turn out the "black locust plague" upon the patrons of the Plaza.
Glen Spephenson, you can't be that fucking stupid. Stop trying to be a god damn gigolo and cancel Cinemark's lease. That will cut 80% of the Plaza problems. Everyday that movie theater is open is another day the "black locust plague" adds members to it's swarm.
Movie theaters are not baby sitters! Plaza, Ward Parkway, Bannister (RIP) and even the AMC in Leawood are/were awash in unguided, ill mannered and poorly trained tweens, and preteens of all colors and classes who are dropped off by parents and older siblings. It makes DVDs and Netflix even more appealing since trying to watch a movie around these little cretins is like having your finger nails pulled out.

And just as P Bear stated, get hopped up on candy and Fanta. And worst of all is that peculiar negro odor. All in all NOT a pleasant experience for other moviegoers.

ReplyDeleteWay back when, billiards and snooker were pastimes of upper-class gentlemen and the occasional refined lady. Now you wouldn't want a pool hall in your neighborhood because these days, the clientele is mostly pretty sketchy. Same thing has happened to movie theaters. Operators of the plaza, a clean, well-lighted playground for genteel people of all races, need to continually fine-tune the product mix to keep up with the times.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child we went to the Dickinson alone my sister and I almost every weekend. But I as well might add so did many other kids. But we sat and watched the movies didn't cause any trouble because we knew if we had of done such we would have been thrown out of the theater and not got a refund. Adults can't even do that today. So sad we can no longer go out at night to see a movie with out being heckled or annoyed the whole time.

Seems like this prticular night is being blown out of proportion.
ReplyDeleteSo some kids broke curfew. Yes it is illegal that is why whey were detained, but what actual problem did they cause? How many were there?
It is a holiday weekend, were they visiting? Were they from KC? Did they even know about the law (no excuse but just wanting context)?
The sirens in the video were from an ambulance and fire truck, not police cars. So this was likely an medical emergency and it was early evening (still light outside).
I saw both white and black kids being talked to by cops when it appartently was after the sun went down but I couldn't tell the time and neither group was unruly.
Saw white kids skateboarding through traffic. What ages were they?
Saw a group of black people riding with a girl hanging out the top of a convertible. This is stupid and dangerous for them but did they do anything to anyone else?
Parents have always dropped kids off at the movies. I see it in the suburbs all the time. They just need to come back and get them by the time the movie lets out and the kids need to behave. When they had this problem at a theatre off Barry Road awhile back (white and black kids hanging after the movie smashing car windows, defacing stores) police got creative. They patroled more but they did it by also bringing their cool looking police race car, swat vehicles, etc and had the Army bring a vehicle. Kids had somethign to look at, officials were there in large numbers to watch them and the real thugs wanted nothing to do with this so they stopped coming.
My 18 year old son wanted to go see X-men at Independence Friday night and offered to take his 11 year old brother. They get there and aren't allowed in because the older brother isn't 21. They drove themselves there. Just another example of how a few can ruin it for everyone. All these mass shootings will have the same effect -at the end of the day gun owners will have their privacy and 2nd amendment rights stepped on, the mildly mentally ill (i.e., the anxious and depressed) will lose some rights too, and the shootings will continue.
