MUST SEE!!! MAYOR SLY CAN'T SAVE KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS SO IS HE SELLING THEM OUT FOR THE TOY TRAIN?!?

Not so long ago when Mayor Sly wanted to take over Kansas City Public Schools but that didn't really work out and he moved far away from the KCPS disaster zone.

Now . . . Toy Train streetcar haters are calling the Mayor out on his current stance that kinda turns his back on local "scholars" in hope of attracting a better and smarter class of people . . .

Check it:

Has the Mayor Sold Out Education For the Streetcar?

Main point . . .

On April 29, 2014 Mayor Sly James spoke at a symposium on the streetcar hosted by the UMKC Law School. The mayor had some interesting comments regarding the students in the Kansas City public school system.

He stated “as a result of less than world class education for decades in the City we do not have the internal inventory of young whiz kids…so that we have to import”. So instead of fixing the school system he is going with the adage “If we build the streetcar they will come.”

The mayor’s comments imply that he is turning his back on the current and future students in the Kansas City school system while “importing” new talent. Apparently he feels that the students in the private schools are not making the grade either. Aside from the fact that his comments are insulting and condescending, they also display a serious gap in leadership.

Again, this is all based on the principal that the plan Mayor Sly and Council dude Russ Johnson developed will work . . . If it doesn't, I guess this down is stuck with a bunch of dumb people AND the train they purchased.

Developing . . .

  1. TKC, it's not about "saving" anybody, it's about selling CK to the highest bidder.

  2. Speaking of Whiz kids where is Kyle?

  3. $ly James is a fat stinking pile of shit. He may be polling well today, but today is not Election Day.

Will a real leader please stand up?

  4. Kyle exported himself I believe.

  5. The fact he had no public or political experience when he was installed definitely shows.

  6. He did sing in a band once. Does that count?

  7. I like the way Smartkc drops big bombs on these guys. They don't waste our time with non stop twitter bullshit like David Jackass Johnson dishes out.

  8. Tweet tweet tweet yah look me tweet tweet tweet I'm Dave Johnson from Kansas and this my bud Staubio from Nebraska we're imported whiz kids here to teach everyone about culture and why streetcars are so groovy and universally loved and how everyone will become whiz kids like us just by riding the free toy train blah blah blah blah.

  9. You guys talk like you know anything.

The majority of voters sit home and do nothing as long as the trash is picked up. A small, but committed public safety workers vote their own interests. Smallest group, the snivelers who sit and home and gripe, race bait, and disrespect women on TKC.

Thank God you will always lose.

And BTW, I never supported the light rail or airport expansion. I just don't like whiners.

  10. You're talkin above your pay grade, Tony and you should know that, with a good UMKC edjakayshun.

The city doesn't fund and has no authority over schools. None. Did he really say the streetcar will bring KC the intellectual talent that has failed to thrive in the KCSD?

If he did, then he really DOES need to stay out of education because he has no clue. It's about the ghetto black culture predominance... same as in most cities.

And lots of things go into that both economic and sociological.

  11. Let's start gathering a woodpile, gasoline and some matches. Its time to send Sly off to his just rewards!

  12. Sly James couldn't actually run so much as a one-car garage.
Big announcements, grandiose plans, ribbon-cuttings, over-the-top speeches, and all the rest, Sly's your man.
And the most expensive and embarrassing example will be coming over the next few years as the actual results and costs of the streetcar fiasco become public.
No one is paying any attention as to how this mess will actually turn out.

  13. Since Russ and Sly are so smart safe bet that they will sell their cars and ride the trolley to City Hall.

  14. Everything Sly does turns to crap. He has ruined KCMO!

  16. I recently learned Zurich Switzerland rejected light rail for decades despite other European cities "leaving them behind," Instead, they chose to make their buses better and serve outlying areas. Finally, Zurich received a light rail plan that made sense and they have great public transit. KC can wait for a better option than mixed traffic streetcars.

Also, KC's MAX bus ranks higher than Seattle's streetcar for return on investment.

One final nugget; San Francisco has just placed an order for diesel trains (DMUs) because they're 60% cheaper than electric trains.

Reject the TDD, make our buses better, and work on a plan that actually makes sense for KC. My suggestion: dedicated BRT, bike lanes, jogging trails, dog parks, playgrounds, fountains, and limited to no car traffic on Paseo Blvd from Independence Avenue to the Trolley Track Trail. Maybe attempt something similar from along Burlington and North Oak all the way to L P Cookingham Dr.

  17. If they really want a good city wide transportation system, they'll establish an asskickin crosstown interstate bus system.

  18. Who cares? Saison-Brett is out. Get some and enjoy it.

  19. I still have a far more fun plan, that is so low cost. Get a bunch of those Asian men that haul the straw hut cart behind them. Bali Bali!

  20. Import? this mayor thinks people are commodity units.

Why are we wasting time and tax dollars for a poorly planned, unneeded faux train?

I am a frequent voter. I did not vote for Sly James. Brookside, Westport, Waldo and parts of South Kansas City put this jackal in office. They screwed up.

  22. Dave and Matt must make you all feel like a bunch of shitheads...they have made their neighborhoods better and you pussies sit here and whine on a blog site. We all know you will do nothing in life but whine. Streetcar could be the dumbest idea ever but you lazy douchebags will still be the last to do anything about it. Suck it losers.

  24. It's really beyond belief the crap Sly buys into from the urband futurist TED talk gang.
But when you don't have any real ideas or even much interest inpublic policy or city government yourself, any idea that comes to town and is looking for millions of tax dollars probably seems like what you should be doing.
What's the new gang at 12th and Oak going to do in a couple years when the BIG NEW THING will be living on a farm?
Organic arugula and kale as far as the eye can see!

  26. Lol, I'm pretty sure if City Hall had spent over one billion dollars in Northeast over the past fifteen years we'd see some improvement over here. Not sure I'd start running around taking credit for it though.

Say, what have Matt and Dave done for the public schools and/or crime? Er, uh, so we should look up to them because they diverted a disproportionate amount of limited shared resources to entertainment and cosmetic improvements in a small part of the city uninhabitable by families with school aged children? Hm...
