KANSAS CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT RAGES OVER CUTBACKS AND SHUTDOWNS!!!

KCFD protest the toy train streetcar cutbacks . . . Can't say we disagree with them . . .

KC firefighters protest shutdown of pumper #32 . . .

Firefighters take concerns about station shutdowns to KC neighborhoods. . .

Firefighters take message of discontinued pumper service to neighborhoods

We'll take them seriously when they put forward a candidate for Mayor other than Sly . . . Until then, there's too much background on this story that the plebs always forget . . .

For instance . . .

- KCFD is $7 Million overbudget for overtime

- KCFD refuses to cut old school employees or even lose people through attrition . . .

- These station closings have been on the books for more than a year.

Still, this bit of faux political protest on Kansas City Taxpayer time is a nice bit of theater from an institution struggling to maintain their political power and WINNING in this instance with a media power move.

Developing . . .

  1. At least on this you admit the are right. They should not be closing down these stations.

  2. Let me get this straight. The union negotiated for massive pay raises at the beginning of their contract, and it's members ratified the contract. Now, two years later they are crying foul? I am not a fan of Sly, but I have to agree that a deal is a deal. Now the union is upset that the terms of the agreement are being enforced? Give back the raises you negotiated and save the trucks...the solution is simple.

    1. Actually... We gave up raises for the first year of the 3 year contrac, along with no cost of living raises, along with no extra money for working overtime. So get your facts straight before you blast the firefighters

    2. Oh boo hoo. The fear tactics are stupid. The FD is bloated beyond belief.

  4. Let those heroes rage! Hum, what's the top 10 most dangerous jobs in America? You won't find Fire Fighting in that list! Mr. City Manager, watch your back. Odds are that your fire chief is working against you in the background! Didn't he come up through the L42 ranks himself?

  5. There were no raises in this contract, except junior members got steps.

  6. Fuck a whole bunch of Fire Department........5/29/14, 10:38 PM

Fuck the over budget Fire Department. Live within your budget. Stop paying douche bags that should have retired years ago. Taxpayers are sick of your lame GRIFTER ripoffs.

  7. Didn't the Fire Chief just promote several people into higher positions. Doesn't he have more management staff than the previous chief?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yeah, somehow we never hear about his chief's union and all the money they suck up! How many 6 figured chiefs with take home cars would it take to keep fire within their budget?

  12. He's an American of Hispanic decent that was adopted, I'm pretty sure they don't let him run the mafia.

  13. The 7 million in overtime is because the city hasn't hired for the last 40 vacancies on the FD, the salary saving offsets the OT cause they don't have to pay the benefits. This is just messaging from city hall to fuck over the Union, which I don't have a problem with... But now it's affecting public safety and that's bullshit! I hope the streetcar is worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Here we go with the Italian jokes. Real original there pal! So I guess you stereotype everyone you see? If that's the case, how's it feel to have Magilla the Gorilla as the mayor?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Cops, Fire, EMS and the other city workers have all taken cuts to help the city. Layoffs for 6 yrs and this is how we repay them. The only reason cops and firefighters didn't get laid off is cause the Unions took several concessions
Toot toot! We gonna have a toy train though!.

    1. Not sure what the streetcar has to do with a contract that was in place before the streetcar.

  16. Damn, I love this blog, it's the only place where you find out the facts and realize why the FD wants to burn through my money with the Mayor. I feel for you Troy. This ain't gonna be pretty!

  17. KCFD is to blame like usual.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Raises? We haven't seen a raise or cost of living step in YEARS on KCFD. Last time I got an actual increase in take home was when gas was $1.50 a gallon.

Add to the insult, insurance premiums for health care up 17% in two years, increases in employee payments to the pension which cut takehome pay.

    1. That's true for EVERY city employee. Wa wa. Quit thinking you're so special

  19. Audit the FD and their use of the public safety tax.

  20. 7:35. Welcome to the real world, you are now going through what the rest of the country has been going through since 2008. It is hard to feel sorry for you guys when many people's companies have been decreasing pay, taking away benefits, including health insurance, and laying off whole divisions of employees.

Despite your over-inflated ego and sense of entitlement, you are no more important than other American workers or City employees for that matter.

Unscrew what you guys have done to the EMS service and maybe we'll have a little sympathy. Until you do that, you sound like whiners.

    1. I hate to sound like a douche but the firefighters and ems folks are worth WAY more then we pay them. Sorry but I think people that help people 2000 times a year, running into burning buildings, being exposed to blood and disease, helping people out of crushed cars, and putting up with all the asshats on here saying they should be fired, are worth WAY WAY more then $20 an hour!

  21. There's going to be some fires if the KCFD doesn't get what it wants. I'm betting on it.

  22. This ain't the 70s dumbass.

  23. They are wasting millions of dollars on street car studies before the public even has a chance to vote. While they are cutting cops and firefighters, now they actually shutting down pumpers and stations. If you don't see the connection, we are doomed!

    ReplyDelete
  24. How many tax payer paid man hours and city amenities are going into this little project?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Amazing. If any other department was this inefficient and this far over their budget everyone would be demanding that the director be fired, but not Fire. Every other department is taking major cuts that will negatively impact service delivery but that is just "curing the fat." totally hypocritical bs

  26. For you dumb people who live in Kansas City that cant figure out why things work the way they do here, just look at your Fire Dept. (look at what they have done in this city to put you as a taxpayer FIRST! and who is in charge of that same Fire Dept.(that would be the union) (BTW I have nothing against fire services that live up to the requirement to the Citizens they serve with outstanding Moral Turpitude) then also look at your Taxi services/monopolies or in other words KCTG (Kansas City Transportation Group) and see who owns it. The Mafia is alive and well in KC!!! And there is really nothing anyone can do about it.

  27. I can only imagine what the out lying Fire departments that serve KC are thinking (this would be burb departments for the dumb folk)...well its simple they make more money and bitch a ton less and they could give five shits less because the job they do is proven, and the citizens are happy with the service they provide! Never hear EVER on this blog about the surrounding departments and they way they screw over their citizens, but hey they are all IAFF affiliated so maybe someday.

  32. 11:14 you said "bloated, because you wish you had one to call your own! FAG go fight a fire or start one so you can. (and here is where I will add what you didn't) and that is...so you can justify your existence as a fire service.

  33. 10:04. while that would make a great news story, while those two entities do make a difference in what they do, there is a bigger picture that you are apparently not schooled in to realize. Most EMS people outside of a fire service do not swing dicks about what they do, they do what they do because they love what they do. They dont need recognition because they know the difference they make, now with that said...once in a great while someone is saved from a burning building, and it was the FF's that went in and helped them not burn to death (Heroes). Once that happened a EMT or Paramedic took over and provided life saving emergency care while en route to a hospital that specializes in burns and trauma (Heroes), the doctors and nurses in the ER then took over to provide emergency care in the hospital (Heroes)then the burn specialists and surgeons took over (Heroes) sounds like a chain of people doing what they do made the difference in saving a life....funny thing though, the fire service always claims to make a point that they save lives while the rest of the chain that actually makes it all happen stays silent.

  34. The fire service is a "SHOW BOAT" and they will do anything to keep that show from sinking, propaganda, lies, cheat on their wives etc etc...

  35. I had a fire, the FD showed up and put it out. Saved my house from burning down.
