Let's start the early morning with a reminder that Midtown Kansas City was ripe with violence this weekend that involved interracial brawling and gunfire exposing that talk of a Westport Renaissance was mostly hype.

"Police say both victims were men in their 20’s who later showed up at area hospitals. One of them was shot in the leg and the other remains in critical condition. Police believe a third person was also involved, but have yet to find him or determine who shot the gun.
The store’s manager declined an interview, but told FOX 4, “When the bars let out, that’s when the trouble begins,” referring to late-night party-goers who frequent the nearby bars and nightclubs."
This report is important because it reminds us the KANSAS CITY VIOLENCE CREATES FOOD DESERTS and our violent local party scene continues to destroy the foundations of Midtown neighborhoods while politicos are more interested in eco-devo development kick-back schemes with corporate partners with little attention to public safety or infrastructure.

TKC, shootings are part of security. Maybe we need to put pressure on westport to man up and pay for crowd control. It's not up to KCMO to pay for private business keeping their patrons safe.

ReplyDeleteWestport, the Plaza, and Power & Light all pay into the millions for crowd control. Private security is very limited on what it can do in the public arena because it is not sanctioned for it. The crowds in all three places are much larger than any security force can deal with. The City has to get involved in this issue.

"The City's" not going to get involved with public safety any more than the elected folks get involved with code enforcement, stormwater issues, a terrible water department, or any of the other aspects of activities and services that real cities at least try to provide their residents and businesses.
ReplyDeleteKCMO city government is about insider deals, subsidizing developers, grandiose glamour projects, enless town hall meetings, big announcements, and "what are you going to run for next?"
Everything else is contracted out to nonprofits and companies that are then held in no way accountable for any results.
So s the violence continues to worsen and spread, please just wait for Sly to suit up with his plaid shirt and bow tie and make another announcement about how exciting downtown KCMO is and that everyone is moving there.

Tony, get the story on Mike Sharp's orgies and the law suits that Jackson County tax payers will have to pony up cash to settle. It would be better to have the story rather than to have the parties fighting it out on here via proxy.
ReplyDeleteIt is my understanding that all this shit about Sheriff Sharp is made up by the Local 42 because Sharp recruited Frank White to run against Sherwood Smith for the JaxCo Legislature. There is nothing to the story, but Local 42 wants to run the county like they run the city. To do that, they need Sherwood Smith on the Legislature. They will do anything to make that happen.

Sun Fresh has got a great grocery store that lots of people use. They make $$$$$$. Sun Fresh should pay KCPD to patrol their parking lot at night.
