TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! GOLDEN GHETTO RAGES AGAINST DEVELOPER OWEN BUCKLEY!!!

The plan (or lack thereof) to redevelop Metcalf South is taking a controversial turn this week.

To wit . . .

KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS ARE CRITICIZING LANE4 AND OWEN BUCKLEY FOR THEIR LEGACY AND LACK OF A SOLID METCALF SOUTH PLAN!!!

It seems like there is already some Walmart fear out there . . . And making these Johnson County residents happy is a tall order. Good luck to the developer dude facing this tough crowd tomorrow.

Here's the word from an AWESOME TKC TIPSTER . . .

OMG Deja DooDoo All Over again!!! Metcalf South Developer Told Same Tall Tales To Bannister Mall neighbors!!!

Recently, I had a good time googling Owen Buckley. Sorry if that sounds dirty.

Note in the chatter on TKC, when you Google Owen Buckley, anonymous commenters don't think much of the Kansas City developer.

Watch this video from TKC, 2010, Owen Buckley talking the same Field of Dreams speech, about Bannister Mall redevelopment, before he bailed and took Sporting KC to the Legends, and just left Bannister a heap of rubble.

See for yourself:

Here's the Ch 41 story from 2010:

Now 4 years later, Buckley is telling the same tall tales to the neighbors of Metcalf South.

1. "We don't REALLY have a plan...(at least a public one)

2. "We haven't talked with any prospective tenants" (including his multi-billionaire partner, Stan Kroenke, the owner of 1% of Walmart????)

3. "Aw shucks, folks, we just want to know what you want us to build." (Yeah, like we have engineering licenses and design degrees and the City Council poised to abate taxes including Shawnee Mission schools.)

And there he will be again, this Tuesday night at Matt Ross Center in OP at 7pm, selling trombones and a metronome to the neighbors of Metrcalf South--and--oh ick-- once again serving Koolaid and cookies to the neighbors, claiming "I don't have a plan."

Questions:

Do these cookies taste stale to you??? And should I drink this Koolaid????

  1. Buckley will find that he doesn't have people like Funkhouser and Goria and John Sharp to have to put up with in JoCo. And he'll also find that Overland Park will be much more businesslike and less eager to give away the cow for a little bag of beans.
You never know how these "eco devo" farces are going to turn out and there's seldom any such thing as building something without bilking the publc for as much as possible, but at least the public will be represented by professional competent people, unlike KCMO where most of the electeds couldn't run a one-car garage.

  2. How bout a "Mall Of America" type Quik Trip there? You know, 50-100 gas pumps, hundreds of coffee & smoothie type drinks.

  3. 7:27 with the unintentionally ironic post of the day!

JoCo won't "sell the cow for a bag of beans"? Hahahhaha. That's the joco m.o.! It's literally the corporate welfare and failed Eco Devo scheme Capitol of America. Subsidized failed office campus? Check. Subsidized failed blighted strip malls every 5 blocks? Check. Massive depopulation in 1/2 it's landmass while crappy new housing is subsidized further and further into the fringes? Check. Failing subsidized convention center? Check. Nationally known as the leader in corporate welfare? Check. TIFFs and TDDs all over? Check. Unnecessary and wildly expensive transportation expenditure that almost no one uses? Check.

Try again suburban shill. Joco government is "professional" and "businesslike"? Hahaha. I think you misspelled "gullible" and "Podunk"...
