In the aftermath of horrific violence over recent days, the only thing that's clear is that Kansas City must be vigilant in guarding our public safety and Mayor Sly James is CLEARLY more interested in his eco-devo/toy train streetcar agenda and attracting a GOP convention than protecting residents of the metro area. The Mayor was DEAD WRONG on his attempt to casually dismiss a shooter stalking Kansas City and this weekend @ Jewish Community Centers we witnessed how one violent and deadly local outburst can resonate throughout the entire world. Mayor Sly James must regard these shootings more seriously in the future and neither voters nor media should accept his efforts to downplay local violence ever again.

ReplyDeleteThey think they can delegate away their responsiblities to nonprofits like Aim4Peace, NoVa, and many others, and then go about their business of schmoozing the swells and spending money on glamour projects like the streetcar and simply claim that someone else is taking care of providing some level of safety for residents, businesses, and visitors.
And they'll still tell you that year after year, even as the homicide numbers hover over 100 every year.
The cops aren't going to have extra officers in the city's high-crime areas because there aren't enough of them and Sly and the rest are afraid of the ususal suspects on the east side marching around with their tire old "No justice; no peace" signs and the cops aren't going to risk their careers on hoping for cowards like the city hall gang having their backs.
There's NO leadership at city hall or the police board, and there's NO leadership on the east side to help empower the law abiding residents there and help them become a part of the solution.
Since Sly was elected, there have been over 400 murders in the city and his responses have been, "it happens everywhere, he needs to be made a strong mayor, he needs local control of the KCPD, and the Missouri legislature has to tighten the gun laws".
Any city needs a mayor, not another executive director of the tourist bureau, another president of the chamber of commerce, or another bowtie-wearing millenial wannabe.
The vaudeville show is getting very very old.
