KANSAS CITY SATURDAY HOMICIDE!!!

As the weather gets warmer, we're reminded that Kansas City gun violence rarely takes a break . . .

KMBC first newsies on the scene: KCPD investigates fatal shooting on city's southeast side

UPDATE:

KCTV5: The shooting was reported just after 1 p.m. at East Gregory Boulevard and Wayne Avenue near the Forest Hill and Calvary Cemeteries.

KSHB: When police arrived, they found a 20-year-old man dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Witnesses say a black male, with dreadlocks, wearing black and white clothing, shot the victim before running away, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

Fox4: Kansas City, Mo. police are investigating what led up to the shooting incident and are asking anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS (8477).

Unofficially and counting the downtown dead guy found in the trunk of a car by a 12-year-old . . . This might be Kansas City homicide 17 this year compared to 25 at this time last year.

Developing . . .

  6. If prevailing OD logic works we just need to assign another 58 officers to the weekend DUI stop force and we should eliminate felony crime and murder in just a few weeks.

Of course we are down in murders compared to last year. We recently made the decision to redefine what was a homicide in this town and it doesn't have shit to do with people being any less dead. Now thats KC crime reduction in action. I guess if this program works felony sodomy will become "Following too close" and rape will become, "Assault with a dead weapon". Congrats boys! You are finally getting with the mayor's program. We may all feel safer now.

  7. Murders are down because February weather was cold and snowy.
The sad fact is that the underlying causes and activities haven't changed and aren't going to be changed by the latest round of programs and nonprofits.
    This will only get worse.

  8. I'm sure it was over something important like shoes or a perceived disrespect. The fact that murder numbers are down is just an anomaly. Blacky will pick it up with the warmer weather and increased porch-sitting.

  9. Was a cold winter so murder was down. I am glad the counts are down and Tony does compare them. But summer is coming and with it will be death to many people who live in KC

  10. All this violence will go away once we have light rail and the development it will bring. There can be no better justification for light rail on the east side than it will stop the killings. I am sure the proponents must have documents that will back up these remarks.

  11. The day we declare war on niggers, will be a day we can all celebrate a return to humanity. Niggers are a cancer on society and eventually, they will have to be surgically removed.

  12. Murders down are bullshit!

KC has taken at least 3 murders off the books by calling them "suspicious deaths" .

They're changing the rules of the game rather than be honest with people.

And it's only April. 2 homicides in the past few days. Let's not have the victory celebration yet Skippy!

  15. Don't worry Tony, all those resources they've put into the KC NOVA program will soon pay off. I bet by the end of the year, we'll have no less than a 100 homicides, and everyone will be singing the praises of NOVA, and justifying the need to either continue the program, or throw even more resources into it.

Maybe Tony should ask the "leaders" of this program how they intend to measure their success. Will they determine their program is effective if there are less homicides than last year? Last year there were 106 homicides, right? So, if there are 105 homicides in 2014, will these "leaders" declare the program a success? OR, will they continue to demand additional resources and personnel be assigned to this new project?

So, the question remains, what will the "leaders" of KC NOVA use as their benchmark for success? Will it be 105 homicides, 100, 90, 80, 60, or 40 homicides in 2014? How about it Mayor Sly, Mean Jean... What is the benchmark for success of this program?

  16. I've been asking the same forever. What would be considered acceptable? 75..65..how about 50? Because one things for sure ..people will always kill people.

  17. Cold weather attenuates the stupidity. Wait til summer.

  18. Success will be declared regardless of the number of homicides, because none of these programs ever have any management, expectations, command attention, resutls, or accountability.
COMBAT goes through at least $16-20 million year after year funding anti-drug, drug treatment, and anti-crime nonprofits, and there have been no results in decades.
Aim4Peace has been around for over four years, the number of homicides is the same as when it started, and their answer to that is to ask for $5 million instead of what they get now.
The council doesn't know or care what's coming down, Sly claims his "hands are tied" without being made a strong mayor, getting local control of the PD, and having the legislature in Jeff City tighten the gun laws (none of which is going to happen), the police board is clueless, there's no serious leadership on the east side, and the nonprofits are perfectly happy to churn through tens of millions of dollars year after year without having anyone monitor, question, or audit their activities or demand any results.
How are the GOP Convention and new downtown hotel coming?
That's what KCMO government is really all about.

Build a police station there. That will solve all crime problems. I should know, I'm police board Chaplin.
