At the outset of this race, the Jackson County legislator has more political support than any other potential candidate . . . But her residency in the 5th District has always been suspect.
Remember that TKC confirmed she was playing house with our Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Circo.
And even in casual conversation, denizens of the 5th District are calling Theresa a "carpetbagger" for her run in a district where she has very little connection to the community.
But questions confronting "TGR" are soon to get more serious . . .

Now, KCMO elections might get moved but as of now they aren't as late as May and that wouldn't put her in KC Proper within the 2-year-residency requirement for City Council members.

In this cowtown, we need to DESTROY THE GROWING KANSAS CITY CIVIC ELITE CLASS OF POLITICOS who have turned our local Democracy into a social club.
These people aren't even good company so it's not worth saving their tax, spend and schmooze lifestyle.
It remains to be seen if Theresa Garza Ruiz can overcome these residency questions but there isn't much doubt that she really isn't invested in Kansas City's 5th District. Part of this simply reveals the shameful nature of the At-Large system that encourages this kind of abuse. Now, TGR might be a good politico but she simply doesn't really have any roots in the place where she's going to try to win an election.

I want my representative to have a real investment in the community they are elected to represent and I take offense that she thinks moving into her friend's basement is good enough. Is she even paying rent? I'd like to see bank receipts. I personally like Theresa. I voted for her at the county but this is not right and has caused me to lose a lot of respect for her. I would feel the same about any candidate that pulled these shenanigans.

Her heritage/culture/race makes no difference to me; if I can avoid electing a manipulative self centered person with no ethics to office I will. Residency games are things that self centered power hungry people play.

ReplyDeleteShe had to find a neighborhood that was in the 5th City Council District but still in the 1st County Legislative District or she would have lost her seat on the legislature as soon as she moved. She could not qualify for a loan to buy a house in the area that Cindy Circo lives, which is one of about three neighborhoods that suit TGR's complex residency needs. Hell she even has her mother living in the Blue Springs house and her Aunt living in her mothers house in Raytown so that everyone can keep up payments. If this goes badly, there may be several mortgages called back. It is all about Theresa.
