TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN VICTORY!!! PHASE II STREETCAR QUASI-ELECTION COMING SOON!!!
Quick reminder about how Democracy works in Kansas City . . . It's basically a poorly attended lunch meeting.
KICK-ASS Kansas City Insiders offered this blog community an early preview this morning . . .
"There are like 25 people here for the TDD. No one in opposition"
And with he stunning mandate of 2 dozen plus one . . .
TODAY A JOINT CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE APPROVED AN UPCOMING PHASE II TOY TRAIN STREETCAR ELECTION!!!!
I'm assuming this one might be on private ballots sent out only to yes votes like the last one but we'll have to wait for more details on the next $100 million the politicos, their donors and the city's biggest engineering/architectural firms are going to pirate.

so elMoron and his bitter ilk are too lazy to get out of bed?
ReplyDeleteah the entitlement generation. all talk no action.
Proposed 2014 Kansas City budget requires “further belt tightening”
ReplyDeleteYet they want to raise sales and property taxes on citizens to pay for a phase two at a cost of half a billion?
Are you trying to stop democracy Tony? Let the people vote & decide if this is worthwhile or not.
ReplyDeleteI hope they vote NO! The people at city hall need to be sent a strong message that KC infrastructure and basic services need to be updated and fully funded for appropriate levels of service before adding on this mess when they can't even manage the current needs/budget.
ReplyDeleteHow long does this lunacy continue? No shit, how long can this go on??
ReplyDeleteNobody is there because nobody knows about it. Typical Kansas City. Let's say we had a public meeting and keep it as secret and concealed as possible as to avoid unwanted opposition. The hearings should be held with a Judge overseeing them. That way everybody gets the required notice and reasonable opportunity to be heard.
ReplyDeleteTax the poor for fluff transit.
ReplyDeleteInteresting over on Streetcar Neighbors Facebook they put out a call to stack the deck against opponents or the uniformed by urging supporters to show up in force isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHow long does this lunacy continue? No shit, how long can this go on??
ReplyDeleteUntil people start seriously feeling the hit and pain on their pocketbooks.

ReplyDeleteNailed It
What a fucking waste. Why don't they take this money and fix just a few of the water main breaks that are STILL going in South KC?
ReplyDeleteShame on you Sly!
There's nothing quite like new property and sales taxes to encourage new residents and businesses to move into stressed parts of town and to get visitors to patronize companies there, all to fund a glamour toy that very few people will ever use.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a majority of voters, and by that I mean more than the 375 that voted to start down this track, will finally pull away the Koolaid punchbowl.
But the 85% of metro residents who down't suffer the misfortune of actually living in KCMO and having to pay for this crap are watching with astonishment and wondering where the adults have all gone.
All aboard!
@1:55 That's why new businesses will move into the LCRA, EEZ, 353, and TIF districts.
ReplyDeleteFunny how opponents of the street car find the time to bitch about it on a blog, but don't get off their ass to go to public meetings to make their voice heard.
ReplyDeleteThere's this thing called a "job" people have during the day. I wouldn't expect you to know about it Davy.
DeleteYou must not be that good at your "job" if you're on a blog post, lol
DeleteCITY OF KANSAS: STAND AND FIGHT HERE! PAY OFF FREEDOM INC FOR SOME BLACK RAGE! PUT SOME ADDS IN THE CALL!
ReplyDeleteCALL UP JEFF ROE, PAT GREY AND STEVE GLORYHOLE! CALL UP BRAD BRADSHAW AND REXY AND THE REST OF THE BILLIONAIRES AGAINST TAXES!
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Streetcar supporters remind me of a bunch of five year old's who took over a Boeing 747 and are climbing around in the cockpit frantically flipping switches trying to get it to take off.
ReplyDeleteYou don't want anyone who knows what the fuck they are talking about and have economic sense to attend 2:03 PM.
ReplyDeleteThat's why you people go out of your way to make sure as few people as possible know when these meetings are going to occur or you make it as inconvenient as possible for them to attend.
No one spoke in opposition at the committee meeting. City Councilwoman Jan Marcason, finance committee chair, said she’s also heard little opposition at the community meetings she’s attended. She said she’s optimistic voters will be supportive of the 1-cent sales tax and modest property assessments.
ReplyDelete“They’ll be reassured that it’s a modest cost,” she said.
Right sure it will.
Can you imagine the traffic hassles and congestion this thing running up and down Main Street will cause.
ReplyDeleteThe people behind this need mental examinations.
I'm supposed to get a babysitter so I can sit in a room full of people who have already spent the money in their minds?
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck could I do at that meeting? Everyone on that committee knows who I am and how I feel about it already.
Honestly, I want this to go to a vote. I don't think this is a mail in ballot; I believe we will actually go to our polling station. I can't believe they created another TDD disenfranchising 1/3 to 1/2 of Kansas City voters, but I think there's a possibility that ever with the deck stacked heavily in their favor, they could lose this election.
Stone (Polsinelli) said a no vote on either election would be a serious setback to the city's streetcar expansion plans.
ReplyDeleteSound good to me!
I have been to the public meetings, and this is a horrible idea. The whole thing is an ego project pushed by Sly James. It will push sales tax in the metro core to over 10%. Yet we still have tons of crime and schools that are not even accredited. Shameful. Absolutely shameful.

ReplyDeletePlease invite as many supporters as you can, regardless of whether or not they plan to testify. Let's pack the Council chambers!
So this is informing the public?
Higher sales taxes and higher property taxes for a streetcar that won't get you anywhere you want to go. Linwood and Inependence Ave...who are you kidding!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis will devastate already declining property values, kill the Plaza, and send even more people to Johnson County. Think Grantham University and it's 450 jobs.
I was at today's Toy Train meeting and they are going to expand it down Independence Ave and down Linwood. These new routes are gong to be called the Meth & Hook Route, and the Nigger Route. Half a billion dollars of total waste!
ReplyDeleteEvidently no one paid attention when TKC gave everyone a heads up last Friday.

Time to send more public works people to Spain?
ReplyDelete'Have to say I've been out of town for most of the past year so I'm still trying to figure out how crazy Clay Chastain's finally got his way with the city council. I thought they'd never buy in. Who paid them off?
ReplyDeleteThe really sad part of it all is that this kind of shit works over an over in KC and the dumb asses who live there can't seem to muster the gumption to put a stop to it.
ReplyDeleteGrantham moved because it got a huge corporate welfare check from the state of KS, you fucking moron.
ReplyDeleteJust like every other biz that goes to KS. You have to pay people to move there.
