TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY JAMES OFFERS CHARTER CHANGE CHOICE TO VOTERS!!!

A bold move for Kansas City Mayor Sly James . . .

CHECK OUT THIS ORDINANCE JUST RELEASED BY MAYOR SLY JAMES WHICH PUTS CHARTER CHANGE UP TO A VOTE!!!

Coming soon . . . On the April Ballot . . .

Moreover . . .

A VOTE TO ELIMINATE AT-LARGE COUNCIL DISTRICTS COULD BE HUGE AND BRING FORTH A CONVERSATION ABOUT RACIAL DISPARITY AND REPRESENTATION!!!

Check it:

ORDINANCE #140029:"Calling for submission to the voters of Kansas City, at a special election to be held on April 8, 2014, questions amending the Charter of Kansas City to modify the number of required City departments, change election dates and correct certain financial procedures and processes; to allow dismissal of the City Manager by the Mayor as well as by nine members of the City Council; and providing for submission of the annual budget by the City Manager to the Mayor and Council based on a required five year financial plan; and to eliminate at-large Council districts and provide for 12 Council districts; directing the City Clerk to notify the responsible election authorities of the election on or before January 28, 2014; and recognizing this ordinance to be an emergency measure within the City Charter because it calls an election."

Again, the one to watch here is ELIMINATING AT-LARGE COUNCIL DISTRICTS . . . Which would end a great deal of racial disparity and substantially change the political landscape of Kansas City.

Developing . . .

Don't forget the hotel & the soccer park.

Still, losing the at-large seats is a win for democracy.

Since it's from the Mayor and his nine co mayors watch out!

STFU and stop stealing my money!

Have to admit that the Trojan horse comment is correct. There is no questioning that he will be the strong Mayor now and the only person at the head of the table.

Did they twitter this?

Sounds like with election coming up the mayor is trying to save himself and a few council members who know their farce is just about up. Too bad the voters can't trust him(them)

For the last decade, the city has been caught up in a pork fest — all of it perfectly legal — the likes of which are unequaled in any American city. A small group of developers and attorneys with City Hall connections glommed on to a program for poor neighborhoods and used it to build luxury hotels and fancy shopping centers in the richest parts of town, draining $90 million per year from the city’s budget and racking up $5 billion in debt. Cash poor, the city’s bridges, sidewalks and sewers were literally crumbling, and Kansas Citians were at wits’ .

Vote No on this bullshit

Thank you Sly James.

end a great deal of racial disparity my ass .....

The goal with this is to continue the long-running scam to shift redevelopment dollars from poor neighborhoods to rich ones, and the beneficiaries of those schemes.

Now watch the Mayor try to beef up his 3rd District credentials. This is classic divide and conquer only he's doing it to his own people and everyone else too.

You guys really don't know what you're talking about. My mayor has done the right thing by letting the voters make the decision.

Let the bait and switch begin!

So, compare and contrast old ordinance with new in this regard: how much easier will it to be to get rid of worthless City Administrators, like Troy Schulte, with the new ordinance if passed?

Anonymous said...

LOL at 320. This seems shady: www.abetterkc.com

Anonymous said...

Schulte, why does the city council eating this turd sandwich? Is the council really that blind?

Anonymous said...

All of this is wonderful; however, it still depends on who is counting the votes and IF they are honest and/or bound by the law. Otherwise, we have a similar situation to what happened in the Presidential election.

Yep, Sly is life challenged.

Byron you know nothing. This is a horrible idea. At large council districts give each district 8 representatives on the Council...their in-district rep, their at large rep, five other at large reps and the Mayor. Go to 12 districts and each districts member gets cut to two reps. Not to mention the disaster such a setup would mean for the PIAC process, leveraging capital dollars, etc.

Only someone who does not understand representative government would think this is a win for "democracy".
