"Pat Clarke, a 3rd District Committeeman, and a group calling themselves Urban Core Park Users are upset at Swope Park’s development path. The group is passionate about their perception of how city officials view children in the inner city.
“There’s nothing for black folks,” said Clarke.
Clarke said the recreational activities in Swope Park are not geared towards the African American community.
“We got soccer villages and everything coming up around us. We got a Frisbee golf across the parking lot, we’ve got a community garden in the center field of a baseball diamond,” said Clarke. “I grew up playing out here.”
This group wants the city to put more emphasis on the sports they grew up playing, to preserve what they had for their children.

Mr. Clarke does important work in Kansas City's urban core and his words are relevant to a discussion of city resources.

n a bold move to show residents, the pathology of violence they encounter and who is perpetrating the crimes, the Omaha Police Officers Association posted a video of a “local black thug” spewing profanity, sexual and violent laced language at a toddler.
ReplyDeleteMr. Thug was so proud of his video masterpiece, he posted it on Facebook and his black friends cheered him on.
Liberals and some liberal blacks have expressed disdain for the Omaha police in posting the video, claiming it stereotypes blacks and the man’s behavior is an anomaly. But the opposite is true. In DC where I currently live and witness frequently uneducated blacks calling each other and their children the same sorts of heinous names.
I have never seen white people talk to each other this way, much less their children. While black activists and liberals can try to pretend, we all know hip hop and rap glorify and extol this exact thug culture, using the very same offensive words in their music. So let’s stop pretending.
Truth isn’t politically correct. Facts can be inconvenient to those who want to live in a society which doesn’t offend people. But we need to start offending people with the truth – like the Omaha Police Officers Association did – about what’s keeping blacks as a race economically enslaved to a cycle of poverty and government dependency.
The ugly truth is blacks, who represent a mere 13% of the population, are committing most of the violent crimes in America and 55% of federal prisoners are black. About 54% of all homicides are murders of blacks and according to the Justice Department data from 1980 to 2008, “blacks were six times more likely than whites to be homicide victims and seven times more likely than whites to commit homicide.”
Looks like the face of the thug life is black, not white! And the Omaha police were correct, “soak this in. You are literally watching ‘the cycle’ of violence continue right in front of your eyes.” Police treat the symptoms of the disease, which is the utter destruction of the black family.
In 1964, Democrat Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Assistant Secretary of Labor under President Lyndon B. Johnson, observed in his report The Negro Family: the Case for National Action, “the family structure of lower class Negroes is highly unstable , and in many urban centers is approaching complete breakdown.” At the time about 24% of black babies were born to single mothers compared to 3% of whites.
Moynihan further observed, “The steady expansion of this welfare program, as of public assistance programs in general, can be taken as a measure of the steady disintegration of the negro family structure over the past generation.” And things have only gotten worse for blacks since.
When 72% of black babies today are born into fatherless homes, they have no example of loving parents to emulate. These children born to mothers without husbands generally don’t graduate from high school and turn to a life of crime—thuggery. Growing up being called repugnant names that any mannered human being wouldn’t call their pets much less their children, these children grow up into thugs and repeat the cycle.
As the Omaha police noted, this pathology is “a powerful cycle the police alone can’t stop” in Omaha or any other city. It’s time our country reform it’s welfare policies and stop rewarding women with housing, food and money for having babies without fathers and start punishing the men who impregnate them.
I thought Pat Clark was put on the KCPD payroll to help the cops work with east side residents.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm not getting this one. I like and respect Pat Clarke and we used to live in the third... Is Swope in the third or the fifth? Anyway. We are a black family, all of my children have played soccer at some point, as well as basketball, football, even hockey. No, we haven't done baseball, our children just weren't that interested after t-ball... We also use the park to fly kites and model airplanes. Of course we go to the zoo, go to the nature center once a year, hike the trails, even go to the pool in the summer. So are there no baseball diamonds at the park anymore? If so, I agree, we need to keep a couple open for the sake of those kids who do play the sport, as well as basketball courts etc... Is that the issue here Mr. Clarke? I guess I am neededing more info, but I have to disagree when he says there is nothing for black families to do there, we even go to Starlight a couple times a season, went to the Universoul circus there and always attend the ethnic festival. I'm kinda lost on this one Pat.

ReplyDeleteRather than hold a rally, Pat, how about gathering some signatures of families interested in playing baseball or softball (girls play, too, you know). Submit this info to the Parks Department. If there is a demand, Parks will try to fill that demand.
In Tiffany Hills Park, baseball and softball leagues fill the ball fields non-stop. Tiffany Hills is in a predominantly white area.
It's not a black thing or a white thing. It's a communication thing. Quit acting like a victim who is owed something and put your efforts into positive steps toward making something good happen.
Did you catch the part about violence in the above white ghetto link? The sheriff points out there isn't much. That is the difference between white and black people right there. Blacks always argue the hood is violent because they are poor. That simply isn't true. They are violent because they are inhabited by black people. Residents of Appalachia are the poorest of the poor. There's tons of welfare, illiteracy, drugs, and non-violent crime. But to say kids have nowhere to play is ridiculous. And don't forget, baseball used to tell us there wasn't a steroid problem in baseball either. It is self-serving for them to invest in the inner-city because they are losing athletes to football and basketball. The city is littered with abandoned fields because they weren't used. 5:54, as one who doesn't bully Byron, or anyone, but has watched the comments, I have to disagree with you, Byron does not make gross comments, true, but he has made racist comments, they are just against whites. And yes, you can be discriminatory against whites. People also resent someone who is not from here and knows little about our city acting like a know it all. Lastly, Byron appears to use his disability as an excuse to be completely government dependent, which is his decision, and not his condition or situation. ReplyDeleteI am a disc golfer who frequents Swope Park. I suggest the Urban core partner with the Kansas city flying disc club and start an initiative to teach inner city youth how to play disc golf. It is not a segregated sport and it is enjoyed by many. I know the club would welcome any and all to learn, especially it's courses neighbors.
