Kansas City Insider Reviews New Direction For Scott Parks and Dana Wright
I was removing KMBZ from my presets last week and I could swear that I heard Scott Parks threaten to grab Dana Wright's boobs. I wrote to inquire and got a non-denial denial from both of them.
What's clear is that both the Dana & Parks show and Darla Jaye have been given instructions to dump politics in favor of absolute drivel.
Personally, of the two, I think Dana is the one with the brain. She seems better informed and more logical than Parks. That said, the fact that both she and Darla are capable of doing far more intelligent subject matter is simply further evidence that Dana and Parks seem to be under orders to become the extensive definition of white trash in Kansas City and I suspect that, one way or the other, Darla will move on.
In general, the media in this town is scared to death of the establishment.
It's not about politics, it's about the establishment and its agenda.
Serious discussion of local issues is not appreciated around here. Oppose them, or talk about the wrong things and you leave the radar.

With the ad market the way it is, that is the trend. People don't want to take on controversy because it might attract readers but not advertisers. That's why Glenn Beck isn't on the air.

I for one love the fact that Kansas City has a local radio station that talks about local Kansas City issues! Dana and Parks, as well as the rest of KMBZ rock! (plus Dana's boobs are nice!)

The comment in the post is correct. KMBZ is light on news, they really only have 2 and half reporters over there and it's obvious somebody told their hosts to just copy the chat shows. A dumb move to be sure, nobody wants to listen to 5 more hours of the view.

KMBZ news is a joke unless you like listening to headlines about stories you read online two days ago. They might as well go fluff since they gave up being a serious news source years ago when Dan Verbeck left.

Scott and Dana are both horny, divorced 40-somethings who talk dirty to each other on the air and offer little in the way of informed or intelligent opinion. If I wanted to hear that trash, I'd listen to The Buzz; at least Lazlo and Slim Fast are funny. Seriously, what kind of world do we live in where the talented guy who is actually trained in radio broadcasting has to beg for people to Listen Longer, and these two talking heads can just prattle on about nothing for hours and the closest thing to a joke is when Scott Parks quotes a Will Ferrel movie?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, it's really hard to listen to their show. Maybe if they just talked in between music or something, they'd be okay, but to host a talk show, they are both just The Worst.
Kansas City has a 10% average voter turnout in municipal elections. Ever since Chris Stigall left for Philadelphia, there has been ZERO talk radio sources for City Hall news; in fact, I believe that's part of the reason that the mayor and city council has been able to get away with so much stuff like the streetcar. We really need someone who lives in Jackson County, pays Kansas City taxes, and has kids in KCPS schools bringing these issues up on the radio, and start some intelligent conversations about how to fix them.
When Scott occasionally brings up the school district, he doesn't have anything good to say, but he probably couldn't name three schools or two school board members in the district.
KMBZ could/should devote either their 9:00-11:00 show or their afternoon drive show to politics, with a focus on state and municipal issues.
They wouldn't have to focus on one issue for more than 15 minutes, and they could limit their callers to a single thought to keep the show moving along, and they could lighten it up with some personal anecdotes in between, but as it is, I've pretty much had to turn KMBZ off altogether, and I literally used to listen to it all day.
I can't stand the sound of that guys voice. If I was ever given the opportunity, I'd punch his fuckin lips shut.

ReplyDeleteScott said something about it 'being beer drinking weather' and he and the producer should grab a couple of chairs and sit out in the front yard and drink some beer. Dana then chimed in something to the effect of they could use her nipple to open the beer bottles as it was cold outside.
If what Tony is saying is true and the show is devolving into PWT entertainment for ratings, I wonder how many invites for Scott are forthcoming in 2014 from Nick Haines. Surely Barbara Shelly must find Scott a bit uncouth and not care to share a sound stage with him.
Also, later in the show Dana was mentioning how happy she was that she would not have to work holidays for the first time (at least in a complete year) as she was on radio now and not working television news. Scott kept saying 'You're welcome.' He said he told 'them' (I assume KMBZ management) that he wanted her (Dana) when they were making changes to the show.
This got me to wondering if Scott pushed Mike Shanin out. I always thought that it was management wanting to make a change, but now I can't help but wonder if Scott made a successful power play. After all, according to him he 'wanted' Dana and he got her.
If memory serves, all of this happened before the Larry Moore segment Wednesday.
I am not a listener to the D&P show. I just happened to be our running errands and flipping channels. When I heard the tease for Larry I decided to listen to the show.
I agree with TKC. Listening to Dana and Parks is like listening to drunks at a bar.They make sense only after a few drinks.

ReplyDeleteI'm actually embarrassed listening to Scott and Dana. He obviously wants to get in her pants and she enjoys the attention. If any guy tried the stuff Scott Parks does in the work place, they'd be fired. And he has like one or two daughters who are old enough to listen to the program.
If anyone at KMBZ is reading this, I know talent is hard to come by, but consider changing the show format PLEASE. KCMO is greatly lacking a show that discusses municipal issues. Most talking heads in KC (radio & television) live in Johnson County.

If you all know so much about the show, and have such detailed opinions about particular things that happened, it sounds like you all listen even though you profess to hate them....LOL

I tried to listen of and on since Shannin left but after this afternoon's show I swear I have done my time and have to move on!Come on Dana really cant answer the question how many feet are in a yard! Seriously!? I will not miss the "I speak truck" banter that she screams anytime I tune in and her non stop no it all attitude. She contradicts herself from one statement to the next and is about as dumb as they come! I sure hope the "Big announcement" on Wednesday has something to do with her leaving! I can say this though I do really love Parks and will miss his wit ! I can not believe that she has lasted as long as she has !
