Kansas City Police Local Control Redux

The Newspaper revisits some news from last week . . .

How should KC police department be governed?

Meanwhile . . .

We had a pretty good discussion about the event the morning after . . . In a quick follow-up conversation I had regarding the meeting . . .

KCPD FOP REMAINS STEADFAST THAT POLICE PENSIONS ARE NOT ON THE TABLE FOR LOCAL CONTROL!!!

So that makes this really nothing more than a political discussion and so far most Kansas City residents are skeptical that local control will translate into success given the track record of this town's political establishment.

  1. The police and fire pensions need to go, all new hires should be getting a 401-k just like the private sector.

  3. I just moved here from Chicago and I am here to say that if we could have state control of our police department it should be done in a heartbeat. I think keeping state control of the Kansas City Police Department should be priority number one for the members of that department.

  4. Then let the state pay for the police.

  5. you might be on to something there 2:36. How much money does the state give KC? How much money does the Federal govrn gives the state to give to the city? Quite possibly the PD would get a better deal if the state paid PD directly, thereby cutting the city budget considerably. Maybe FOP should work on something like that instead of creating division.

  6. Why do the citizens of KC think they need control of the police department? It runs fine now with no corruption. If the city takes control of the PD then it will go down the shitter like Mast and our wonderfull schools!! The clowns that run this town will have the PD fucked up so fast and there will be no going back to state control. If it ain't broken don't fix it!!!

  11. Sure 8:38 and just like the private sector they should work Monday - Friday 9-5, have all holidays off, spend work days at charity golf tournaments, go to ball games and sit in the company suites, take long martini lunches and call it a business meeting, get large bonuses for meeting objectives, skip out early on Fridays to hit happy hour, go to conferences to exotic locales on the company dime, have stock and profit sharing plans, work until their 62, then retire with a nice golden parachute. So yea it should be like the private sector.
