Here are the facts:
Missouri State Highway Patrol Sex Offender Registry lists Orrin Lewis Ellis with charges of rape and sodomy against a female ages 8 and 6.
Kansas City Insiders sent info our way wondering about the service of a person named Orrin Ellis on the Kansas City Neighborhood Advisory Council.
Note that the addresses match up on Kansas City's website and the Missouri Highway Patrol site.

THERE IS A CONTROVERSY COMING SOON ABOUT REMOVING MR. ELLIS FROM THE BOARD GIVEN THIS HORRIFIC LISTING!!!
Sources at City Hall confirm that there has been a request to ask Mr. Ellis to resign. He has not answered the request.
To be fair, we spoke with friends of Mr. Ellis and they note the crimes took place 20 years ago but still acknowledge the serious nature of the listing.
However . . .
THIS HOT MESS REFLECTS POORLY ON THE COMMUNITY GIVEN THAT MR. ELLIS WAS AN ELECTED AND NOT AN APPOINTED MEMBER OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL!!!
He obviously has some standing in his community given that election to the Advisory Council is done by Neighborhood Associations.
City Hall insiders note that had the office been appointed by the City there would have been extensive background checks that might have made an issue about this info before it became public. Still, in the age of Google and mobile phones its hard to understand how neighborhood leaders wouldn't have performed a bit of due dilligance.
And here's how the story should unfold . . .
City Hall Insiders tell us that, if he doesn't resign first, there is an effort to remove Mr. Ellis from the board given the MO Sex Offender Database Listing that has recently come to light. A vote at the next Neighborhood Advisory Council might take place if it's required.

ReplyDeleteThis is just another way to strip influence away from the neighborhood associations. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody from the Mayor's office leaked this story to Tony. It's really just a ploy to make it seem like neighborhoods don't know what they're doing.
The thing is, if you know Orrin Ellis than you know he is a good person and the situation surrounding his alleged crimes are a lot more complex than just a simple listing.
It's just a shame that media, that's you too TKC, doesn't allow people to explain why they voted him in.
