TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR PROFESSIONALISM?!?! BOYCOTT THREAT FROM TRANSIT DISTRICT VICE CHAIR DISAPPOINTS DOWNTOWN BIZ COMMUNITY!!!

Matthew Staub is the vice chair of the Kansas City Downtown Streetcar Transportation Development District.

His small cadre of buddies on Twitter are probably the only group of people who universally and enthusiastically support the toy train streetcar and impending Kansas City financial calamity.

Recently, Mr. Staub's online antics have inspired some pointed questions from Downtown Kansas City biz leaders.

In fact . . .

KANSAS CITY BIZ LEADERS IN THE TDD BRISTLE THAT THE VICE CHAIR WOULD ENGAGE IN WHAT SEEMS TO BE BOYCOTT TALK!!!

The message that Downtown Biz leaders are taking from Mr. Staub's angry tweets is that local government will crackdown on anyone who dares to disagree or raise reasonable questions about the important issues like "stacking" and other taxing concerns facing the proposed streetcar line.

Real talk: In the aftermath of the lawsuit to stop the streetcar . . . Mr. Staub's Twitter Antics didn't help make the case for supporters of the line.

Money quote . . .

"It just seems unprofessional to me," one insider noted. "This is a serious issue that could cost KC hundreds of millions of dollars and a member of the Transit District Board is ranting against a Downtown Kansas City business online like some kind of frustrated teenager. That doesn't inspire much confidence that this board will keep their emotions out of the decision making process and work for what's best for Downtown residents instead of their own egos"

For the record, @staubio has taken aim at TKC via Twitter more than a few times and seemingly doesn't understand that his new position as Vice Chair on a public board isn't the place for mostly uninformed cheerleading.

DEVELOPING . . .

Comments

  1. Sly will keep him in check TKC.

    Don't be scared.

  2. Staub is a whiney fucking tool. Disagreement with the lawsuit is one thing, but trashing a business owner and his business is unprofessional at best. Pretty clear Staub is just protecting his phoney baloney job.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Checked out his Twitter feed. He deleted the tweets. In my book that it makes it even worse. Justify it Mr. Stuab! Say shitty things about a local business then delete it? What a pussy.

  4. Fuck Stretch, what an asshole. Now THIS is a boycott I can get on board with. Let's load up on Roasterie Coffee and boycott Grinder's!!!

  5. I could give a rat's ass about Stretch. That doesn't mean Staub isn't an insufferable douche nozzle. Which he is. He needs to STFU.

  6. Retraction And Apology To Mr. Louie Wright

Regarding TKC posts published on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11:49 a.m.; Friday, May 13, 2011 at 4:47 p.m.; and Monday, May 16, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.: This blog is retracting those entries, and they have now been deleted from the archives.

In the context of a tense debate over the MAST ambulance merger into the Kansas City Fire Department, this blog reported and offered commentary on arguments from anonymous tipsters aimed against former Local 42 Union President Louie Wright. TKC acknowledges that the claims were not verified and that such claims should be viewed as baseless.

TKC agrees with, recognizes, respects and acknowledges Mr. Wright’s assertion that he has never profited from any charity work for the United Way or any other charitable or not for profit organization, with which he is or has been affiliated.

Moreover, TKC would like to apologize to Mr. Wright for any distress caused by the posts.

  8. 4:26 & 4:32 confirmed for Staub & Johnson.

  9. If the food at Grinders was mediocre that would be an improvement. The toy train is a debacle unless they are going to drive it into a gas chamber on Niggers Ride Free day.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Staub and Johnson have never learned to share..."I don't like them be be because they don't want to play the same games I do."

    ReplyDelete
  11. Anyone give a shit about a guy who's job is Social Media Strategist?

  12. This is what happens when you mix hipsters and politics.

    Everything is personal.

  13. Total jackass.

  14. Light him up.
    Problem solved.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ha, ha, ha, Tony just accused him of being a mostly uninformed cheerleader. Hey Pot, the Kettle is a calling!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Could have just beefed up that route between Crown Center and Downtown with more buses running on a regular basis.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Best thing to do is cancel this debacle. I expect tough times are coming and we just don't need this obligation that will never pull it's own weight. This is a boondoggle and everybody know it but the downtown business folks think this will bring some more value to their properties. Maybe they should pay for it instead of taxpayers.

    ReplyDelete
  18. All so Staub and his ilk don't have to walk two to four blocks to get to work. Stoopid.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Whats else is on his list of childish demands?

    ReplyDelete
  20. That Stretch and all those other people are mean!! I'm not eating there anymore!!!! Wahhhhhhhhhh!!!

KC pastors promise support of ‘no violence’ initiative

Well, the preachers will solve all that shit going on downtown now. Staub happy now?

    ReplyDelete
  22. So he's one of cheerleaders for this train wreck in the making?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mr. Staub's political utility to the CoC, and thus his political decline, has officially begun..

    ReplyDelete
  24. All those idiot hipster kids who were sporting those stupid t shirts at that party at Nara the night those "ballots" were counted are in for a rude awakening when they see all those politicians and proponents of the toy train syphoning and skimming those funds and all the city is left with is MAYBE a two mile GASH in the street.running from River Market to Crown Center

    ReplyDelete
  25. Staub doesn't have much influence at City Hall or anywhere else. I applaud his efforts but he's mostly just window dressing.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Folks like this Staub guy act all pro-Downtown/Train etc NOW, but they'll all move to Olathe in a few years to spawn, and we'll be stuck with a broken TOY.

  28. STAUB SHOULD BE FORCED TO RESIGN!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I just said a lot of things about him on twitter.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I will support the street car when the line connects all of the CSL Plasma locations in the city, because let's face it, their customers are the only people who will ride it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Matthew Staub behavior is despicable. Someone has a different opinion than his so he wants to organize a boycott. He should be thrown of out of the Kansas City Downtown Streetcar Transportation Development District immediately. Even if he apologizes he needs to go.

    ReplyDelete
  32. El Bryan FTW!

    ReplyDelete
  33. His twitter followers have also been calling for a boycott of the filter lady's business. He had a long screed on his blog the day after the lawsuit was filed calling for a boycott of Grinders, but he has removed it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Staub's latest hipster eco cause is to have Walnut put back as a two way through street between 5th and 3rd through the City Market. This would necessitate tearing down the structures, eliminating the fountain, pulling out the pavement around the Steamboat Arabia entrance, and rebuilding Walnut as a traffic street with curbs and sidewalks. You should check out what he has written on twitter, his facebook page, and the City Market facebook page.

I suppose he'd want to have another rigged election to set up another TDD and tax the downtown property owners and residents even more. This guy is a loon. He needs to be removed from the streetcar board. Someone needs to alert the lawyers representing him and the board in the lawsuit about his antics.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Here's what he wrote on his FB page, before he deletes it:

This is my next neighborhood crusade.

In my opinion, chopping up the street grid for mega-projects or pedestrian malls is the urban planning folly of our generation. Once we kill a street grid, we can never get it back.

We've given our streets and alleys -- public spaces -- away to developers for years. In the River Market, 4th St no longer exists and is in private hands, Main St is a loading dock for City Market for 2 blocks, and Walnut through City Market is a parking lot. Unsurprisingly, the Market is dark and lifeless at night, and 3rd and 5th feel miles apart.

The first step to fix it? Return Walnut, which will become a two-way street soon, to normal operation as a street through the River Market. Let's clean up our mess and put our streets back.

  36. The "food" in Grinders has always been terrible. It just shows that if you promote a turd long enough, somebody'll eat it and that's what most of their fare appears to be...TURDS.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ummm?

Isn't boycotting a business what you do when the business takes a political stand or actively supports a policy you disagree with?

Isn't that kind of what a boycott is -- by definition -- for?

Stretch and Sue Burke have a right to express their opinions (in this case in the form of a lawsuit) and customers have a right to voice theirs by patronizing/not patronizing a business.

There's a reason I won't shop at Walmart, or buy an import car. They are political decision about who I'll give my money to and whose corporate policies I will not contribute to. Its pretty normal...or should be.

  38. Grinders having really shitty food has nothing to do with a boycott. It's just world class bad food. Shit on a plate.....enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  39. This blog is nearly as uninformed and uneducated as most submissions on the KCStar opinion page.

Calling your "tipsters" downtown insiders?!? That's just funny. Staub has every right to not go to grinders. Just as tony has every right to act like he knows how to write.

    ReplyDelete
  40. FYI- stacking is legal and has precedent back to 1822

states, counties and cities can stack taxes

    they're all political subdivisions

since the TDD is a political subdivision by statute it can stack taxes

  41. David Johnson is no better.

  42. Did I mention that Grinders food is very similar to shit, in smell and consistency?? Also, the ambiance is much like a pool hall or cheap bar room.
