This is a time for new hiring in Kansas City and one worker has evoked quite a bit of rage from City Hall insiders.
To wit . . .
AMID A HIRING FREEZE AND LOOMING BUDGET DEBATE, SOME RATHER HARSH FEELINGS ARE CONFRONTING A NEW HIRE IN MAYOR SLY'S OFFICE!!!
To be fair, let's first look at the pressers that tout the new hire as something that might benefit this town.
Mayor James announces the appointment of Ashley Z. Hand as the City's first Chief Innovation Officer
Money line . . .
"With this appointment, Kansas City joins a select handful of cities who have created a position dedicated to finding innovative ways to solve some complex city problems and improve citizen satisfaction."
Gov Tech:Kansas City, Mo., Hires City's First Chief Innovation Officer
However . . .
City Hall Insiders aren't as happy with the hire as Mayor Sly and government policy publications.
"What value does she bring to Kansas City?" One insider asks.
"What 'innovative' ideas will she have to fix ambulance response times? Stealing by City employees? The busted and broken down Human Resources Department?"
Insiders also wonder about Mrs. Hand leaving a steady gig for one that depends on politics and elections.
"Maybe her architectural training will be put to use in designing streetcar interiors?"
Whatever the case the "Kansas City Chief Innovation Officer" job has created controversy and started more criticism of Mayor Sly doubling his budget over his predecessor and side-stepping the City Hall hiring freeze that has been taking its toll on every other department.

IS ANYBODY GONNA ASK MAYOR SLY WHY HE HAS DOUBLED DOWN AND HIRED NEW PEOPLE DURING THIS OTHERWISE STARK PERIOD OF AUSTERITY FOR CITY HALL DURING UPCOMING BUDGET TALKS?!?!
Probably not but I just thought I'd throw that one out there . . .
And while Ashley Z.'s hubby Gunnar faces his own challenges with reefer charges it's clear that making friends outside of Mayor Sly's office could be where she starts "innovating" at City Hall.
