Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker is currently being sued by three former Assistant Prosecutors for discrimination and retaliation.

A number of recent firings and layoffs have been unreported in the mainstream media but still manage to provide this Jackson County Prosecutor's Office hot mess with a bit of context. Amid budget cutbacks and faltering County revenues, the Prosecutor's Office has been forced to trim staff. Plaintiffs allege that the manner in which Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker carried out terminations over the past year and a half was discriminatory and violated their rights.

Let's start with an allegation of RACIAL DISCRIMINATION by a former Jackson County Assistant Prosecutor along with accusations of retaliation following the compliant.

There is another accusation of AGE DISCRIMINATION along with retaliation. After 20 years serving the County, this plaintiff says that he was told that the Prosecutor's Office could hire younger lawyers for less money in order to get rid of him.

Finally, there is a claim of DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION and another alleged instance of AGE DISCRIMINATION facing Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

In terms of retaliation . . . Here's an interesting detail from this case that doesn't look good:

A couple of the Assistant Prosecutors in this case faced Bar Complaints for alleged prosecutorial misconduct AND THE COMPLAINTS WERE THROWN OUT!!! Juxtapose that hot mess with high praise for other Assistant Prosecutors who were facing the same kind of charges but instead earned an allegedly political pat on the back from "Mean" Jean.

And I'm hesitant to mention this but it's too good to pass up . . . There's also a Local 42 angle to this ALLEGED PATTERN OF DISCRIMINATION as well that isn't on record yet but might have political consequences for Jackson County leadership and what might be interpreted as a hostile stance toward this town's most powerful Union.
