He was formerly Kansas City's most powerful Union Boss and now he's suing TKC according to a recent e-mail from the good folks at The Pitch.
Go check their PLOG because I sent just sent a nice quote their way!!!
The lawsuit is over a TKC TIPSTER claim and a Youtube video I posted . . . The second part of that statement makes me somewhat confident that I have a snowball's chance in Hell given that . . . Linking Youtube is not a crime - Case law backs me up on that. Oy.
But it's a fact: Without question the dude is the most powerful political force in Kansas City and I'm quite sure he can wipe out this blog without much effort.
I'll do my best to maintain and any defense I mount (no fish sticks) will be based mostly on free speech and the basic facts of TKC TIPSTER inside info that's always been pretty good.
ALSO IT'S INTERESTING TO SEE THAT LONGTIME UNION OPERATIVES BASICALLY WORKING TO CRUSH ANY DISSENT TO THEIR ONGOING RULE OF KANSAS CITY!!!
But we know that lawsuits are basically battles about money and in that regard . . . I'm screwed.

Investigators used DNA and fingerprints to link a 23-year-old Kansas Citian to recent attacks on two women, officials announced today.
The suspect, James D. Kemp, lives less than five blocks from the Trolley Track Trail, where a masked assailant sodomized a woman in her 50s in June.
This month, a man fitting the same description attacked a woman at a car wash a block from the trail.
Jackson County prosecutors charged Kemp today with forcible sodomy, kidnapping, first-degree robbery and four counts of armed criminal action in connection with the two attacks.
According to court records, he admitted to both attacks when confronted with the DNA and fingerprint evidence.
Kemp, who works at a local fast food restaurant at 76th Street and Wornall Road, also drives a white 1994 Mercury Tracer, court records said. The victim reported seeing an older-model white Mercury in the area of the attack.
Last week, police released a sketch of a man who attacked a woman getting ready to vacuum her car at a Waldo car wash one block from the trail. Police quickly began investigating whether that attack was connected to the sexual assault reported along the trolley trail in June. In both cases, the attacker used a knife and wore a black ski mask and black clothes. His mask came off in the recent attack.
The first reported attack happened about 5:45 a.m. June 16 near 85th and Main streets along a relatively desolate section of the trail. The assailant bound the victim’s hands behind her with duct tape, and taped her mouth, before sodomizing her. He also threatened her with a knife, according to court records

ReplyDeleteMy feelings on this are mixed. I'm an ardent defender of free speech. But at the same time, free speech isn't absolute cover to say anything you want. Bloggers like Tony have liked to earn journalistic merit when it suits them but when trouble arises, they say they're just bloggers with an opinion, or more laughably, dissidents.
Tony's been hankering to be recognized as someone who spreads the news. Along with that recognition comes the responsibility to back up what you write.
This may be somewhat new ground in libel and defamation law. I haven't seen the lawsuit so I don't know exactly what nuance is being argued here. True, Louie is probably a public figure, and as such has a higher standard to reach.
That having been said, Tony may find himself in the uncomfortable position of having to fess up what he really knows and when he knew it regarding Louie's kickbacks. So Tony may have to reveal the information he had in hand when he published what he said, or he may have to reveal who supplied him with this information. In either respect, I suspect the result could be greatly embarrassing to this blog.
I hope Tony can get some kind of low-cost or pro bono representation. This isn't going to be an easy fight.
So he didn't want to do this in front of his union "brothers and sisters." Union leaders are the biggest threat to democracy and capitalism.

In response, my point is public figure, I think not. He isnt appointed to anything by the public or voted into a specific office by the public. It is the same as if it was a CEO at Cerner. You cant run your mouth and hide behind a "tipster". That has cost many news people in the past, the only difference is they carry millions of dollars insurance for such events. This blogger doesnt have the luxury and will most likely lose everything because he wanted to pretend to be Howard Stern and Glenn Becks ass baby!
