TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! LIKE IT OR NOT, RACIST KANSAS CITY VOTERS WILL DELIVER THE MAYORAL ELECTION TO MIKE BURKE!!!

For the record, Mike Burke is running one of the most diverse and inclusive Mayoral Campaigns in modern Kansas City history.

It doesn't matter.

The Mike Burke Campaign has earned the support of a great many African-American Ministers because of his long history of understanding their concerns and partnership on many issues.

That fact won't register.

In Kansas City Mike Burke knows nearly as many important people as God and has worked to build coalitions in almost every one of Kansas City's diverse community.

However . . .

DESPITE MIKE BURKE'S GOOD INTENTIONS AND COMMITMENT TO RUNNING A "CLEAN" CAMPAIGN, THE VAST MAJORITY OF KANSAS CITY POLITICAL INSIDERS BELIEVE THAT RACIST VOTERS WILL ULTIMATELY BE THE DECIDING FACTOR IN THIS MAYORAL ELECTION!!!

Sorry.

I'm not trying to taint anyone's victory and I think I've gone out of my way to note that this tragic fact of life has noting to do with the Burke Campaign that's run by a rather skilled young Afrian-American guy.

I'm simply reporting what most KANSAS CITY POLITICAL WATCHERS regard as fact.

And rather than cryptically note that "race always plays a factor" . . . Allow me to demonstrate how this thing is going to break down.

Check it:

There are good people living on the other side of the river . . .

BUT THE GREAT WHITE NORTHLAND HAS NEVER VOTED FOR AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN MAYORAL CANDIDATE EN MASSE!!!

Apologists can make excuses but the trend is too obvious to ignore and the motivation too apparent.

Additionally, there are a great many pockets of South KC that vote just like the Northland.

Inside the corridor and throughout the rest of Kansas City both of the candidates will be competitive and unless Sly can overwhelmingly take one part of KC than this election isn't even close.

Voter turnout was dismally low in the 3rd District and let's not forget that the contest for the Freedom Inc. endorsement wasn't between Jim Rowland and Sly James but between Rowland and Mike Burke.

So, given these observations in addition to the fact that Mike Burke is a very promising and candidate that would do a fine job (very much like Sly) . . . Most people note that Mike Burke will win the Kansas City Mayoral Race the same way that Mayor Funky did . . . Through no fault of his own.

Developing . . .

Voting against Funkhouser in that case would have been . . . racist. We wouldn't have wanted that, now, would we?

  6. I'm likin Sly but as usual, the little Mexican goes too far asserting that its racism if white people don't vote enmass for the minority candidate.

The real war isn't brown vs white. It's rich vs poor. Hands down!

    ReplyDelete
  7. What ever you think the Freedom endorsement was about, the reality on Tuesday was James took a large majority of those "Freedom ward" votes.

A cursory review of the votes will show Rowland was never in the picture, and James received 3000 more votes than did Burke.

  8. Tony, look at your own "Weekly Power Rankings."

Right after the primary, the white candidate makes it on his own merit, but the black candidate is nowhere to be found.

But his white handlers make the list.

Don't accuse anyone else of racism, subtle or otherwise, until you explain that.

  9. Rman is right.

There seem to be two excellent candidates for mayor, that is a good thing.

Tony has repeatedly said that he will vote for "People of Color" wheneve he has a chance. I love the racist shit from a guy who is such a racist, and proud of it. The guy owns it, I'll give him that, and I suppose if you are so blatently proud of being a racist, then you are probably qualified to see racism in others because you see it in yourself.

The city elected Cleaver didn't it?

Obama is in the White house.

I think Sly would be better, jmo, but some new blood in office, with a guy who obviously will be able to bring some concensus and leadership.

    Semper Fi Sly!!

  10. "Thank God nobody who's black voted for Al Brooks on the basis of race last time around."

And I really doubt that more than a handfull of blacks voted for Al Brooks "on the basis of race."

I strongly suspect that the vast majority of people -- black, white and brown --- who voted for Brooks did so on the basis of his lifetime of achievement and work, and his character.

While, on the other hand, precincts in Clay and Platte County went 72 percent for the white guy with virtually no record, and certainly little character.

But hey, let's vote for the white guy we don't know instead of the black guy we do know.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Oh, give it a rest. It's not like we've never had a black mayor. Even Al Brooks lost by just a few votes last time. Black voters actually need to go to the polls rather than complain about racism. If you don't vote, don't bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well we had co-mayors with Mark and Gloria so maybe we can continue the trend with Mike and Sly?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Diana and Jason Kander will direct a masterful campaign that drives up Burke's negatives so high that Sly will win an historic victory.

    Done Deal.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Tony tries to provoke responses with his racism accusations, but that doesn't mean he is wrong. It is unlikely that Sly will do well up north. He will have to get out the black vote, and do very well west of troost from downtown to waldo. Once south of say, 95th street, the votes for sly will drop. That is just sociology plus math. Tony drives me insane with his ramblings (my favorite was the recent craziness that unions are a white issue--which totally misunderstands that unions represent enormous numbers of people of color who have a huge stake in what happens in Wisconsin), but he is NOT wrong about what Sly will need to do to win.

  15. And who are the "majority of KCMO political insiders"? All four of them!

  16. Being "Nice" - Losing Strategy2/26/11, 9:21 AM

Tony you are being incendiary and presumptuous - as always. Funk only beat Brooks by 865 votes. Sly is a better candidate than Al and Funk (what was known about him then) was a better candidate for grass roots voters (which there are even more of know)than Burke.

Sly can do it, BUT he's got to come out swinging and not be talked into a dumbed down, "were freinds", lets be nice campaign.

Sly must "try the case" of Burke's insider - political elitist status. Most voters expect aggression in a campaign and they won't be offended by it - its now the common way in politics and if it's honest it'll work for Sly.

  20. Major topics in the state of Missouri, citing its two largest cities: Race and Crime. These two will prevail because people feast almost hourly on the subjects. So the race and crime issues will remain with us until the marketing approach is changed. We wake up to expect homicides each day because our minds have been fixated with little or no time spent on plans to fix the situation. Same with race. Let's have a change of heart, beginning in 2011. Next subject: Leaders, feed us with some positive strokes, fair play and execution of the laws to bring Kansas City out of darkness.

  28. Tony is right that KC is a racist town.

But that racism manifests itself in where people choose to live, play and invest.

When it comes to who they elect, any crook -black, brown, yellow or white- will do.

    ReplyDelete
  29. To discuss 11:28 am's question, Freedom's lack of influence is apparent in the cost to Rowland and the vote turnout. $50,000 and a TOTAL of 5000 votes in the Third District.
Younger people and anyone with much sense are also tired of the victimiztion entitlement schtick from TKC and the same old grifters in the black and Latino communities.
It's not the '60s anymore, there are opportunities to work together, it get no one anywhere to blame others, government isn't just about "getting your fair share", or hiring your families anf friends, or shoveling taxpayers' money to your contirubutors, or making everything about race.
KCMO south of the river is heading down the tubes, even as community "leaders" argue about whose fault it is and who's going to get what's left.
Both Burke and James are breaths of fresh air.
Let's give ourselves at least a chance!

we will see how smart the kanders are when he doesn,t go negative and gets his rear kicked

  32. Our City government... teaches the whole people by its example. If the City government becomes the lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every person to become a law unto himself; it invites and opens wide the doors to corruption at every level. It breeds an atmosphere of distrust where upon people no longer feel a civic duty to report wrong doing since it already exists at the highest level. The corruption and vices of the politically connected are often masqueraded as over sites or mistakes of error; and those of the poor and lowly, for crimes. Little wonder there is such a prevalent disregard for authority and an unwillingness to become a participate in such a flagrant corrupt system. Apathy takes root in the soil of corruption. In such an atmosphere neighborhood injustice is relatively easy to bear; it is government justice that hurts.

The E-tax is nothing more than a spider web for the rich and politically connected, and a burden for the poor and weak, who pay it, but receive little in promised returns. It is nothing more than fishing net in the hands of the government. What a satire this is, when People try to live within their income, so they can afford to pay taxes to a government that cannot live within its.

Our City Government has lost its moral compass. It no longer serves the people who do most of the living and dying within its borders. It has become a model of self-serving corruption for thefew. Passing the E-Tax and handing the money over to City Hall is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenagers. Mark Twain once said the scariest thing he ever saw was ignorance in action.

Vote no E-tax. Voting against the E-tax puts the voters in Kansas City in control. The Taxpayers will vote on Tax issues. It will stop the politicians from using money for political favors rather than city services. It puts the citizens back in control of the city's checkbook. It will put an end to city government waste.

    ReplyDelete
  33. All politics is local.

The northland area is a bright star in KCMO - one of the few in the entire city. The "rising tide that lifts all boats."

It is perfectly logical for a northland person to "break the tie" between two well qualified individuals by voting for one of their own neighbors.

Although I am one northlander that would like to see KCMO's first black mayor, for me that does not outweigh the "neighbor" factor.

    Go Burke!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Former Northlander2/26/11, 2:06 PM

Chuck, when you say BBQ to a Mexican, that means they will take a cow's head ant stick it in the oven to roast. Then they will pull all the goodies off and you will have barbacoa! It is really quite delicious, if you don't look at it.

As for the Northland and blacks, TKC is on spot. There was no decent bus service to there for DECADES so as to prevent the blacks from migrating. Then, dammit, they started the service AND more blacks started driving cars! Now the Northland has gone to hell in a handbasket! (insert sarcasm). Overall, most Northlanders I know would never vote for a black man. (at least they now say black instead of the N word.) Perhaps there is progress.
Sly has my vote. Not because he is black, not because he is not white, but simply because he is a decent man with no skeletons and the intelligence and integrity to bring honor back to Kansas City.

  35. Yes, Funky really was a big FU so happy he is gone.

  42. I'm a northlander, and white, but I intend to vote for Sly James. He has the most logical proposal for fixing the four city pension systems in a manner that will provide good benefits for city employees while saving the taxpayers from an unsustainable system of ever increasing defined benefit plans. That's what I call leadership. Burke, when asked, just danced around the issue as if to suggest he didn't know what he would do to fix the problem, or he didn't want to commit to a course of action. That's a stark contrast between thet two. I will vote for Sly!

God, I get tired of reading ignorant, populist claptrap like this.

Here's a clue for you, genius. You take advantage of LOTS of services funded by taxes that make a city a city. You simply take them for granted, as if they are some sort of entitlement that should come to you free of charge. It makes you sound like a spoiled five-year-old who didn't get absolutely everything he wanted for Christmas.

And another clue --- the E-tax isn't paid solely by the citizens of Kansas City. It's also paid by thousands upon thousands who live in the suburbs, yet take advantage of KC services while they work in the city.

Now whatever taxes that would have to be raise to replace the E-Tax, and fund those essential city services that you think are free, those taxes would be paid solely by the citizens of K.C.

But what do you care? You probably don't live here anyway, and want KC citizens to provide you with what you want at no cost to you, given your spoiled brat attitude.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't always agree with you Tony but, on this issue I do agree with you. Because of Obama and his trying to help those "have not's" people don't want another Black guy in charge.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Unfortunately for Sly and Birke this maybe the first truthful statement TKC has made on his blog. This is more likely how it will play out. The only issue that separated Birke and Sly from the voters was money. It was clear that Sly had the financial advantage. Why do you think BizPac endorsed Birke... he needs the money to run competitively north of the river. Now that Birke gets the money he needs he can be on the same playing field with Sly. Now the voters need to know what specifically separates Sly from Birke or else its just two great guys running for mayor and who ever has the most money will win.

DEar Mr. Tony: You are not being accurate in your description of KCMO voters. If a black man can be elected President with the electoral votes of three of the states of the Confederacy, a black man can be elected mayor of KCMO. Besides, with our crime problems, who knows--an Marine former MP might be just what the city needs!! Sincerely, Respectfully and In Christ, Ernest Evans

Dear Mr. Tony: You are much too pessimistic about KCMO voters. If a black man can be elected President with the electoral votes of three of the states of the old Confederacy a black man can win enough white votes to be mayor of KCMO. Beisdes, with our crime problems, a lot of white voters might find a Marine ex-MP just the man for the job!! Take care. Sincerely, Respectfully and In Christ, Ernest Evans
