Alcohol and stupidity are lethal in combination. Was Mr. Euston going to drive home at 4x the legal limit? Why didnt he grab a taxi outside Kelly's at the cab stand? What was he doing at a known "dicey" spot ( Westport and Mill ) at 3 am? A tragedy in so many ways for so many people but this has nothing to do with Bill N or Bill G. Give it a rest loser.

ReplyDeleteEuston did nothing illegal. What is the point of bringing up his blood alcohol? Court docs said he rode a cab there, and planned to ride a cab home, so driving wasn't an issue. Like many other young people, he went to the bars to have a good time, and got killed by a thug. Ugh. Just look at that arrogant, cocky face. Westport isn't what it used to be when I was a young bar-goer many yrs ago. Too many people from Luxembourg there now. My theory: The heat got close, so the thug and his girlfriend concocted the story, because they knew no other witnesses had come forth to contradict their big fat lie. Rockhurst guys are smart and savvy, and there is no way Euston would have waded into a dicey group to "hug" or otherwise engage these low-class folks. ReplyDeleteI have 2:43's back. This is a tragedy on both sides. Griswold should have come forward sooner, but I wouldn't have either and I am not even black. Euston, well there is a whole lot of things he should have reconsidered, but at 3.87 he was not in prime decision making form.

Mitigating not only the crime, but the culture, by way of specious and non existanct evidence by way of false statements, and character assassination of the victim ("5 Times the legal limit", a complete red herring.).
Mr. Griswold, no doubt gathered together with many fiends, the air full of bonhomie and the sound of big bass and catchy lyrics from the latest rapper de jour, was acosted, threatened and in fear of his safety from Mr. Euston.
Nothing has changed. That is a lie, Mr. Griswold sucker punched the smaller, inebriated and defensless Mr. Euston, because he was white, and he could get away with it.

ReplyDeleteI went to Rockhurst High School with Brian's father, Kevin. I have not seen him much since graduation but I new him to be extremely quiet, reserved and kind. He was the kind of guy who would not laugh at a racists joke. He would not find the humor in it. I cannot even imagine the suffering he and his wife and Brian's family have endured. I am also aware of the pain and suffering that Mr. Griswold's family and friends must be facing. Out of respect for the Euston Family, the Griswold family and for myself, I find no reason or purpose assessing blame. Our laws in their infinite wisdom and for the purpose of maintaining civil order do not allow a person to strike another person unless defending their own life or that of another. What I hope is this tragic incident will give everyone pause to think about under what circumstances you would assault another person and whether or not the potential outcome is justified by the circumstances.

By the suspect's's girlfriend's own account, she and Griswold were part of a "mass exodus" from the bars when Euston was attacked. There was no claim of Griswold being in fear, and by all accounts Euston was alone. Thuggish macho BS resulted in the death of a young man.

There has been a outrageous number of outbreaks on the Westport these last years due the law enforcement, security and communities lack of commitment to the safety of innocent patrons. The only thing that is true about racism is that it still exsist none else makes sence we all know that. If it wasn't so common I would be surprised.... The only thing I know for sure is that we are Gods children, my family and I and we have faced situations and there was none that we didn't make it through.
