Heard details of Plaza folks scared of Black kids on the street on Saturday night. Driving past, I notice crowds of African-American Youth IN ADDITION TO a bit of extra patrol cars with lights flashing on the Plaza but absolutely no trouble.

Thousands of black kids running through the plaza taunting, beating and intimidating white people, and now, on this night, why can't "WE all just get along?"
I talked to a cop after that last epsode of "Wild Kingdom", and he told me it was total mayhem last time.

The reason why blacks cry "racism" about issues like this is because the vile behaviors exhibited on the plaza by these future-felons is considered "normal behavior" by the inhabitants of areas like Troost and Prospect. When whites complain about this "normal behavior", blacks just dont get it. The Plaza is not a playground for the ghetto. Unless something is done soon to keep out these miscreants, patrons with money will stop visiting this once beautiful area and the Plaza will become another Detroit/St Louis/New Orleans ghost town...

This isn't just about color, it's about economic contrasts and the poor or unpolished jealous/bitter about people who DO want out of the basement of society.
Ya see the animosity in college towns... the townies against the students.... and it's the townies who seem to have the problem when the the two classes mix. I'd call that a class resentment.
Teenagers too feel kinship--with fellow youth. And they whine when THEY'RE kept orderly as well. And police presence causes an age-based 'us' versus 'them' attitude.
UNTIL the teens are dressed up or wearing prom dresses out having a nice dinner. And plans to know that someday they will be able to live the successful life, not just dress up once a year for it. Then they want the pissed off, lower class to be kept at a distance so not to spoil things.
So let the cops keep order. The Plaza isn't a public park like Swope Park, just a place for the idle to hang enmass, it's a shopping and eatery area. You can't have it both ways Tony.
First you whine because the cops aren't doing enough to keep crime down, and then you whine because they're out there showing presence to keep order.
Is it a skin color kinship you feel, a bias against whites upper classes? Or class hostility because you don't have the fruit of your own labor? Sucks that blogging doesn't pay well, huh?

What was your excuse again? Parental unit rebellion? I went through that too but I outgrew it, cut my hair, went to college and ended up with the split level house and two highly educated kids. I wouldn't trade that for the world. And I worked almost all the way through school, besides. Lots of people are doing it. Even those both of color and wishing they were.
Most black families want what most of the rest of us do: a good job, a family, a safe community, and a future for their kids.

I have never gone on the plaza to eat hang out or anything else . I am a grown black woman that works pays taxes and does not have a criminal record.
ReplyDeleteI don't go where I am not wanted and respected ,unfortunately that leaves people like me with no where to go to have a girls night out for a nice meal and a few drinks and a stroll to shop and relax.
Last night my friends convinced me that we could go eat, drink ,shop and stroll on the plaza. I was there from 4-8pm I spent my money ate my food and had a really good time.
There were teens of all races spending money and having a good time.
I left feeling great and thinking that maybe I could make this a habit.
After reading the usual comments and the exaggerations about race it really changes how I feel about going somewhere where just because of my skin I am perceived as a threat.
The last few weeks I have had business the pleasure to go to St. Louis on the weekend I noticed that on a warm weekend night races and all ages enjoying the shopping and parks outside late into the night.Too bad that will never happen in segregated Kansas City :(

I honestly feel that the only way we can restore the former beauty of the Plaza is to do 2 things:

2). Impose a curfew of 7pm - nobody under the age of 21 can get into the plaza area or be served any foor-drink (etc) by any plaza zoned vendor/restaurant/night club/etc.
I can foresee that the black parents will cry racism and Black Community Leaders (ie: Liabilities) will try and convince Kansas City that its everyone's responsibility to help keep these ghetto terrorists in check.
I wish having children came with equal or greater insurance requirements as owning and driving an automobile.

ReplyDeleteActually you DO see a rigorous police response to incidents in high-crime areas, but the cops know that no one will cooperate in any way with them and most often the next day the usual "community leaders and activists" will be claiming police brutality and racism and going back to the tried and true victimization whining and accusing that they've built their careers on.
If the police are to be effective, they need a cohesive neighborhood to work with and one in which the majority of residents have decided to stand up for themselves, take responsibility, get rid of the gangbangers, and work with the authorities.

I'm not sure if you were talking about scapegoating Jews, gays and others to appeal to German arrogance about their 'superior race.' It is surely valid, you're right.
I think Hitler appealed to German arrogance in the face of the humiliating loss of WWI; they liked what he said, he appealed to their majesty et al, long before he was blaming Jews. The demagogery itself is what seduced the german people... and I see it so much about the right wingers, the tea partiers wanting to return America back...(back to what?--employment, whiteness, economic security, Christian values?)

Krupp steel was a major employer, but Hitler also developed the Volkswagen and the Audubon highway system. Germany got out of the depression much quicker to this.

Very nice, 12:50 but you need to actually READ the Constitution and expecially it's Bill of Rights... and learn what it actually SAYS and also what it DOESN'T SAY.

That doesn't give you free right to do what you want.
And in a practical world, you can read that all accused should have a realistic bail. Yet despite that, judges do MILLION DOLLAR BAILS for guys they do NOT want walking the streets.
I am perplexed why a million dollars for anybody but Michael Jackson is REASONABLE BAIL. I'm perplexed by a LOT of laws that seem to cheat us from EQUAL OPPORTUNITY UNDER THE LAW.
But like every OTHER Supreme court, including those who worked UNDER SLAVERY, justice can still show a bit of a blind eye.
Sucks, huh? So do we hope for a REPUBILICAN Presidential appointment to the Supreme Court, or more DEMOCATIC ones?
