TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! MISSOURI HOUSE DISTRICT 40 CANDIDATE WILL ROYSTER ASKED TO STOP CLAIMING COMBAT COMMISSIONER CREDENTIALS!!!
At this moment, the local political game in KC Proper is all about picking up endorsements. In the District 40 Missouri House Race this has involved a great deal of controversy.
THERE IS NOW SOME SIGNIFICANT DEBATE OVER DISTRICT 40 CANDIDATE WILL ROYSTER'S CREDENTIALS AS A COMBAT COMMISSIONER FOR JACKSON COUNTY!!!
First enacted in 1989, the Community Backed Anti-drug Tax is utilized to "COMBAT" drug use and drug-related crime in Jackson County . . . And it's usually a political nightmare.
Take a look at the ad and the credential in question:
What makes all of this interesting and newsworthy is that County legislator Dan Tarwater, who is the Chairman of the Anti-Drug committee, recently wrote a letter which claims that Royster has never served in that capacity and asks Royster to refrain from making such assertions in the future.

Remember that not so long ago Royster had similar trouble with the AFL-CIO endorsement that TKC reported exclusively.
In this situation RATHER AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS explain: "What happened is that in 2006 Kathryn Shields appointed him during her lame duck period and he was never confirmed and Mike Sanders quickly rescinded the appointment after he took office. He never served a day as a commissioner."
The endorsements that JJ Rizzo has picked up don't seem to be marked by such controversy and a recent nod by The Carpenters District Council seems to be just a run of the mill political favor.
Meanwhile, Royster's problems when it comes to endorsements and attacks on his record seem to indicate that double checking friends, connections and resumes is a must for any candidate hoping to attain elected office in Kansas City.

1:40pm - Go to both websites, northeastforroyster.com and johnrizzo.org and you can compare the 2, its VERY simple, from that comparison Will has tons of experience and service listed, and LOTS of specific ideas to make the area better.

ReplyDeleteJACO Charter says that the Legislature has 14 days to revoke an Executive appointment. The legislature never revoked Royster's appointment. So he's correct in saying he was appointed. Henry Rizzo pushed Mike Sanders to try to get Royster off the commission because Rizzo knew Royster would call for an outside certified accounting of COMBAT funds used at Old Northeast, where Henry installed JJ in exchange that gave JJ a resume bullet for COMBAT money. The COMBAT Commission was restructured, and Sanders appointed his own slate of commissioners. Royster was appointed, but never served. His claim is valid.

I know Royster was appointed because I saw the letter of appointment, as did the Northeast News, which published a story of the appointment, as well as the later disestablishment of the COMBAT Commission. Royster was a commissioner who never got to serve.

ReplyDeleteToadstool/bystander - I agree with you 100%, and I know Royster does too. The issue is the Rizzo clan has held up this seat for 25 YEARS! Henry ran UNOPPOSED from 1985 until 2002, when former mayor Charlie Wheeler kicked him out, but couldn't last because he was in his 80s. John Burnett was willing to fight the fight for as long as he could, but ALWAYS against a Rizzo. If this crooked family would just let Northeast go (they truly have all moved north of the river) and then a business owner or doctor would be willing to actually run. But Rizzo stay in power because their process works; behind the scenes bully tactics and threats and personal attacks. Who wants this? Will Royster is a retired navy pilot who dedicated his life to his country, and then to his community. ANYone who has actually worked with him who also cares about the NE knows his heart. He might rub someone the wrong way every once in a while, but they can never legitimately question his desire to make the neighborhood a good place to raise his kids, and for his neighbors to raise their kids. He was willing to get in the ring and endure the nasty Rizzo attacks because he cares, but I guarantee you he wished he didn't have to. If the Rizzos leave, then I would hope you would see a new generation of people willing to step up. Maybe the newspaper editor will actually cover whats best for NE, and other candidates for other offices won't be afraid to have something to say about who is fighting for NE.

ReplyDeleteelbryan; go through his resume, i think you'll find it very impressive and accurate. while you are at it, go through JJ's resume (THAT won't take long!). its worth noting Royster was appointed to COMBAT, its shows that someone else thought he was a leader in the neighborhood and was worthy of serving. As far as the rest of his neighborhood credentials, if you think there are questions, look into them. He even lists the years he has served. I guarantee you Rizzo is trying to find ANYTHING and will be emailing it to TKC to post, like the rest of this crap, all meant to distract from the fact that JJ isn't qualified, ESPECIALLY when compared to Royster.

ReplyDeleteThe point of stating he was appointed is to show all across the board, governments have seen Royster as the right neighborhood leader who is fit to serve the community in a myriad of functions. The fact that a corrupt county executive found a loophole to not allow Royster to actually serve is another issue, which can be tied back to Rizzo directly (which coincidentally, the only times Royster's record of service to his community is EVER questioned, is when a Rizzo is involved. how stupid are you to not see that?)

ReplyDeleteSo today I read the article in Northeast News, and I rode my bike around the neighborhood counting yard signs. Here's my report:
1) Emily Randall wrote the article. Someone had mentioned tension between Bushnell and Royster... I don't think that is demonstrated here.
2) I counted 30 Royster signs and 9 Rizzo signs. Many of the yards with Royster signs had signs for other races. Rizzo yards were dedicated soley to the District 40 race. I didn't ride to Columbus Park, where I'm sure Rizzo has more support.
Extra fact: It only takes about 450 votes to win a primary in District 40, and Rizzo has only come close ONCE in all the times he has run for this office.
