The TKC Saturday Night Playlist: Thank Goodness!!! Black people still harassed by authorities more than Latinos!!! TKC breathes a sigh of relief.

For a few years now Latinos have been that largest minority in the United States. I've always believed that this status has brought about an inevitable backlash that has taken the form of the anti-immigration ruckus that mostly fizzled out because nobody pays attention to single-issue voters.

Still, I had grown even more worried when Missouri State Troopers decided to get involved in anti-immigration efforts i.e. racial profiling and that has made my trips to MU (to visit skanky college women who have a thing for Latino writers) a little bit more worrisome. Honestly, I didn't want to know what the reaction would be from the po-po to a swarthy Latino man like myself accompanied by big booty blonde graduate students with a good portion of cleavage hanging out - That's how I roll, I make no apologies.

Luckily, my concern was misplaced because the authorities in Missouri still like hassling Black people far more that TKC and my ilk.
Blacks More Likely To Be Stopped In Missouri

Black drivers are more likely to be stopped in Missouri than white and Hispanic motorists.

An annual state report found that in 2007 a black motorist was 66 percent more likely to be stopped than a white one. Hispanic drivers were slightly more likely to be pulled over than whites.

The annual report is required under a 2000 state law. All but 22 of the state's more than 700 police departments reported data.
So, for the moment, it looks like I can thank generations of bigotry from keeping police from hassling me based solely on my ethnicity. Sooner or later I think things might even up and authorities will begin to question the citizenship of all Latinos simply because of their own perceptions and reactionary sentiments which ignore the fact that illegal immigrants of the Latino persuasion contribute billions to Social Security.

Anyhoo, this sad statistic from Missouri has inspired me to dedicate tonight's playlist to songs with the word "Black" in their title. It's a small tribute but but I guess I owe a debt of gratitude to African-Americans who have managed to deflect a bit of this state's long standing tradition of racism . . . Whereas affluent white people who have benefited from this systemic racism and years of privilege probably need to make with the reparations.

TKC Fun Fact: Did you know that the Missouri Tigers got their nickname from a cadre of confederate guerrillas led by "Bloody Bill" Anderson . . . These kind of groups were pretty much a precursor to the KKK.

Here are the songs:

  • Back in Black - AC/DC
  • Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden (no homo)
  • Fell on Black Days - Soundgarden
  • The Black Angel's Death Song - The Velvet Under Ground
  • Paint it Black - Rolling Stones
  • Men in Black - Frank Black
  • Black - Pearl Jam
  • Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
  • Led Zeppelin - Black Dog
  • Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

See what I did? The songs are all by white people and refer to a color (or mood) and not African-Americans, I think I did this to signify that the racism in this state is backward, stupid and misguided . . . Very much like the fact that consistent, rampant racial profiling in Missouri is mostly ignored my most local mainstream media pundits. I'm so clever . . . This thoughtful post is right up there with tired sentiment from legendary 70's Funk Band (sorta) Three Dog Night. Natch. Moving on . . .

Thank you for reading this week. Have a safe and fun Saturday Night!!!

  • UPDATE: There seems to be a bit of confusion about the origin of the Tigers Mascot which I may have help contribute to with my poor writing as well. Let's just safely assume that most (if not all) white people in Missouri are at least somewhat racist. Problem solved!!!

    Links at the weekend

Here are some links I didn't miss but almost did:

  • Everyone says "NEXT YEAR" TO MAYOR FUNKY: County Leaders Discuss Mass Transit Plan

  • Sad truth in Kansas City: If you're lucky it all ends in senility and death . . . Missing Elderly Man Found Dead

  • Today's Kansas City Inspiration for a Country Song: "A 38-year-old man is charged with assault for hitting a woman with a hammer and a frying pan."

  • Suburban bliss is all about conformity: Lee's Summit lady sentenced to probation for a barking dog.

  • A "topless" photo gallery of Adriana Lima in Italian Elle is pretty gully even though it's "the ghey" to look at women's magazines.

  • In six months you won't remember him: David Cook Signs with RCA Records

  • Another baby Kansas City can't feed: Baby Zebra Born At KC Zoo

  • Kansas City is mediocre when it comes to spelling too!!!

  • Local lakes no longer a haven for drunk white drivers: Missouri Water Patrol conducts checkpoint

  • Phony Star reporting. Here's the headline: "Leaders commit to transit plan" Fact is, they've only committed to keep on talking and a significant contingent want to wait for a better time financially.

  • Finally, a Kansas City bike ride that isn't all about self-absorbed hipsters: Father's Legacy Continues With Bike Ride

  • Affordable housing even for the (lower) middle-class will be harder to find in Kansas City: Rising construction and capital costs are likely to limit Kansas City-area apartment construction this year to the lowest level in more than 20 years
  • A dozen Reasons (in a row) to discount Kansas City Hype regarding the Royals

The Kansas City Royals dropped a dozen in a row . . . Speculation about a "rebuilding year" is beginning to wear off and it's becoming evident they SIMPLY JUST SUCK. In about two hours they could be on loss number 13 . . . Personally, I hope the bad times continue because it makes it easier to get tickets and it ends hopeful talk which misunderstands that the many reason (small media market) why THE TEAM WILL ALWAYS BE MEDIOCRE!!!

    She's back!!!

Say Hello to Cara one more time . . . Blogging is an addiction from which the discourse in Kansas City benefits. Welcome back Cara!!!

    Graves called her "Gay Barnes"

Good golly, had I known it was that easy and lame to run a campaign and rely simply on slurs, I would have started a long time ago!!! Give KC Blue Blog credit for listening VERY CLOSELY!!!

For all of the Kansas City homos who won't be watching Sex in the City today!!!

Hummm, I noticed Downtown was just a little more fabulous today . . . It's the pride festival . . . Turn your speakers up really loud when you visit their webpage for a quick blast of Kool and the Gang.

Supposedly, their festival is "going green" so I guess that means they'll be handing out mint flavored condoms or something else I don't want to think about . . . NO HOMO, of course.

Taking a look at Larry Moore's Melons!!!

Kansas City Blogger Ken comes up with a fantastic screenshot of a Kansas City institution. Hehe.

    Twitter is slightly screwed

I think that's why I stopped using it the first time, or else I just thought it was boring but for the most part I like Twitter more than blogging nowadays . . . However, they're having a hella lot of problems lately and like all things net they aren't great a listening to their customer according to a great many articles on the net. I'm keeping them on my sidebar though, when it works it's pretty wonderful.

I'm being forced to see four old whores!!!

Ugh. I don't know how I was conned into this but I have to go see Sex in the City tonight. What's worse is all of the women in Kansas City who think they can relate to upwardly mobile tramps who are really supposed to be the ghey guys in real life. Eh, maybe self-deception is universal, in any event it should give me a couple of good opportunities and pointers to pick up cougars.

TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY'S SPRINT CENTER DOESN'T WANT TO WORK FOR CONVENTION BIZ!!! WAL-MART TURNED AWAY IN HOPES OF NHL ANCHOR!!!

TKC Tipsters know a hella lot about Kansas City and they don't like the way Downtown Corporate entities are taking this town for a ride simply because they seemingly forget that their shiny new facilities belong to taxpayers first and foremost.

    The latest example:

WAL-MART IS APPARENTLY TAKING THEIR $15 MILLION CONVENTION OUT OF DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY BECAUSE THE CONVENTION AND VISITORS ASSOCIATION CAN'T SECURE THE SPRINT CENTER FOR THEIR VISIT!!!

Why? Well, obviously the Sprint Center needs an anchor tenant but in the meantime they are eschewing a bunch of other business that could bring in much needed revenue. Word is that the Sprint Center is hard to book for "social events" and the convention biz is being brazenly turned away. Even worse, officals at the arena are simply sitting on their hands and hoping against hope that an NHL team will come along and save their necks . . . They're not working to book anything more than crusty, washed up rock acts in the meantime.

Basically, the Sprint Center which receives the majority of its funding from hotel/rental car fees will not work with the city to help secure much needed, large conventions while holding out hope for a NHL team that is at least 3 years away . . . Or maybe never when the example of the Penguins playing this town for a fool is any indication.

Here's the way things look now for The Sprint Center:

    No anchor tenant.

No convention biz in the meantime.

And generates very little ancillary revenue.

As of now the Sprint Center can almost certainly be described as an interesting looking building but an abject failure in terms of creating the elusive "Downtown Renaissance."

TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! RUMOR HAS IT AUTHORITIES DON'T CARE ABOUT CODE VIOLATIONS AT THE P&L DISTRICT!!!

So, from what AWESOME TKC tipsters are telling me . . . The P&L District doesn't really have to worry about Kansas City's Liquor Control Board judging from the behavior that's being reported (but not investigated) at clubs inside the taxpayer subsidized entertainment district.

Kansas City City's big bet is seemingly being protected and is now above the law!!!

Example: Rumor has it that one of the P&L District bars has not turned into a de facto "titty bar" and the male bartenders are topless while hosing down female employees (good times) . . . As fun as this sounds, the P&L District isn't exactly zoned for the rampant nudity going on in its establishment and the apparently there are a lot of folks in town wondering when or if there's going to be a crackdown. It's not like KC Liquor control doesn't run a tight ship . . . Remember a couple years ago a popular downtown bar was nearly closed because of unsanctioned spanking (hehe) and the same kind of issues with nudity.

First the P&L District wants to be the only place in Kansas City where people can drink a beer outside and now they seemingly don't answer to anybody when it comes to codes of conduct . . . Once again it's clear that DOWNTOWN CORPORATE INTERESTS ARE ABOVE THE LAW IN KANSAS CITY!!!

A couple of good ones coming up

Friday is never the best for traffic but luckily awesome TKC tipsters (STAND UP) are letting readers of this blog know about what's really going on in Kansas City before the MSM gets around to it . . . THANK YOU!!! I'll start the coverage of these two stories today and continue to follow up as best as I can . . . And then you'll read about it in the newspaper a few weeks later.

    Other stuff:

  • Carjackings are still an all too common KC occurrence.

  • Local utility bills still on the rise.

  • Locking up minorities and po'folk for fun and prizes, I guess: Johnson County jail expansion will save taxpayers money

  • Twitter is starting to seem a lot more interesting than blogging. Today is the day of the big tweet up: Friday, 5/30/08 at 5:30pm, Barkley's roof deck, 1740 Main,
  • Kansas City tele-hos!!!

Just stumbled upon the photo gallery of a great many of the broads who recently tried out for the bachelor in Kansas City.

Desperation actually looks quite perky, blonde and tipsy with bit of eagerness to hook up with (bone) some stranger in front of a national TV audience.

    The underplayed AG settlement

The Source opines about a recent settlement by AG Jay Nixon. Here's the story from the news that was skipped over by a great many in the political community (probably because Nixon has a mega lead and will undoubtedly win) . . . Missouri: Settlement calls for AG’s office to pay $26,000 . . . I figure it's worth blogging not only because it involves a quadriplegic woman who claimed employment discrimination but also because it's clear that a great deal of the reporting of discrimination complaints is often timid and mostly biased in the mainstream media.

The latest post from a KC crime fighter

More deferred maintenance when it comes to fixing Kansas City's sewers!!!

Needless delay is what happens when the City Council starts paying too much attention to environmentalists and flashy television commercials . . .
Currently the plan calls for $30 million of the $2.3 billion price (to fix KC sewers) to be spent on green remedies. But the council majority says much more, maybe up to $500 million more, needs to be spent on green solutions.
Green is great but so many politicos in this town want to jump on board a popular bandwagon rather than getting directly to the nasty problem of this town's poop.

Kansas City is filthy like a hooker!!!

So this week we have learned that this town is not only ridden with disease but also polluted and nasty as well.
Kansas City just got measured for its carbon footprint, and the size is nothing to brag about. Among the nation’s 40 largest metro areas, we had the sixth-worst carbon emissions per person, according to a study released Thursday by the Brookings Institution, a think tank in Washington, D.C.
Personally, I put the blame for pollution on rich white people. Of course a few middle-class defenders of this group may champion this caste which they hope to join one day . . . In fact, some might even point out that my fellow Latinos can often be seen in beat up, old, gas guzzling clunkers with broken exhaust pipes . . . To that I answer that those cars are usually filled with no less than 2 dozen people so we're actually saving the planet.

Anyhoo . . . The truth is that other than about 9 weirdos who are ardent ultra-liberal, bike riding fruit cakes and the good folks at Bridging the Gap; Kansas City doesn't care about the enviornment.

This is a commuter town and people in Kansas City have always prized expediency and convenience over the greater good. Build light rail if you want but it's been proven that it not only doesn't get people out of their cars . . . It wastes a lot of money while not getting people out of their cars. People might love it on the weekends but when they have to be somewhere on time they'll get behind the wheel even if gas is comparatively pricey but still not as high as what Europe pays.

The solution: It should be telecommuting or a better plan than the sloppy patchwork put forth by Mayor Funky . . . Still, this is a town that wastes electricity on an ugly looking art gallery so I wouldn't expect much progress.

    Kansas City Blogger Exposé!!!

If there is one post you're going to read today, make sure it's on RDM's blog. Check out his confessional related to a recent death: "Sad story of soldier shocked by suspect shower..it speaks to sickening situation in Iraq"

Blogger quote of the day: "Let's keep the leash if you can't keep it under control."

There are many reasons to read Erin's blog . . . Her recent post describing a puppy protest is probably one of my favorites.

    The Republic Tigers Contest

A Midwest blog is having a contest for some swag related to the Kansas City band.

Here are the answers. Speak well of me . . .

    1. Shuttlecock in from of the Nelson-Atkins Museum. No homo.
    2. Truman Sports Complex at a time when both teams haven't been statistically eliminated.
    3. Douche bag David Cook.
    4. Harry Truman
    5. Ssion - Not the car, I think.

Now go win Daddy some money.

Catchy title, great content and I like the guy's take on newspapers . . . Check out this Kansas City blogger who has a lot of great posts related to tech and pop culture.

    New Blog: Arieljvan.com

Here's a bit of background provided by the author who is working to start a ministry near downtown KC: "This blog is where I think out loud about knowing Jesus, living out my theology, and making risky plans, so it has a personal, sometimes confessional flavor."

Kansas City bomb threat was a dud!!!

Early morning TKC readers will be glad to know that terrorism is still a red herring used to justify a costly and tragic war in Iraq that serves almost no practical purpose.

Luckily, this is a pretty awesome nation and by the end of next year voters will most likely pick either a Black guy or white woman candidate that will end the occupation/siege that started off as a search for weapons of mass destruction that have never been found or now currently reside in Syria. Thank God for Democracy!!!

In other words . . . THERE WAS NO BOMB FOUND AT KCI!!!

This makes Friday a little nicer until people really get their head around other reports that say GW Bush will leave office with a bang and upcoming planned airstrikes on Iran.

By the way, here's a kickass photo gallery of Dutch Supermodel Bombshell Doutzen Kroes . . . Keep it real Kansas City. Or something.

    BOMB THREAT AT KCI!!!!

Just heard about it on the real news . . . This kind of thing makes me glad I never leave the house and live in a basement. KSHB has a cool explosion graphic and some details . . . TKC is currently looking for a photo of a celebrity model that is da bomb.

Wow, that's certainly rational coverage that's not intended to create panic or sensationalize the story. Still, I have to admit they had the details quickly AND they make me less self-conscious about using all of that bold red type and exclamation points.

Stay safe and classy Kansas City.

    Show Me More Minutemen Lies!!!

Earlier this year a group of racist, lying scumbags came through the Kansas City area calling themselves The Minutemen . . . Sadly, I'll never forget that one of them had the Mayor's endorsement.

They said they were for secure borders but then stuck their nose in an anti-Affirmative action measure that was ultimately defeated.

Then it turns out that they're mostly liars who accuse Latinos of crimes they didn't commit.
The wife of a founder of the Ozarks Minutemen has pleaded guilty to lying about being raped and shot by three Hispanic men.

Angela D. Wilburn, 44, appeared in Greene County Associate Circuit Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to making a false report, a class B misdemeanor. Wilburn is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 3. She could face up to six months in prison and a $500 fine.

Wilburn is the wife of Brian Wilburn, who helped form the Ozarks Minutemen. She was charged with the crime in December, after calling 911 reporting someone had shot her
This bit of trickery that was uncovered by the authorities kind of puts all of their other claims in perspective.

Finally, over the course of the last year it has been demonstrated that the Minutemen and their ilk never really cared much about Kansas City and their club takes primary importance over their service . . . Put simply, for them nothing is more important than anti-Latino rhetoric to these single-issue fringe group described by Prez Bush as vigilantes.

For what it's worth . . . There are several people (like TKC) who said as much about this group before they received the defense of the Mayor and so many shut-in reactionaries . . . Once again, I'm glad I've been proven correct.

Hat Tip: The latest link about Minutemen lies came my way via Guard Your Grill!!! Gracias!!!

Photo explanation: Lies about rape costing taxpayers thousands and leading to unfair racial profiling of Latinos are horrible and not at all as gully as the boob implant lies that Gemma Atkinson regularly shows off. Natch.

    When KCK Commutes

From Crime Scene KC: "Police say three adults and a 17-year-old -- all from KCK -- were responsible for shooting a man in the head and face and taking his phone, wallet and Jeep last week in Olathe."

    ROYAL F*CKING FRUSTRATION!!!

Fox4 features a Royal bleep-fest from Jose Guillen . . . It's worth a listen and the profanity-laden tirade in a Spanish accent reminds me of my childhood. I miss you Grandpa. Also, TKC thinks online listeners are grown up enough to hear the uncensored version which would really drive home the desperate situation for these Kansas City losers.

Former Mayor Kay might have also stolen the Lindbergh baby!!!

Featured above is the latest Republican attack ad . . . Thing is, there's no arguing Former Mayor Kay is for higher taxes but invoking ominous music and tones because of the very mention of the ghey people is kinda lame. And does anybody but the most ardent Sean Hannity listener believe a stupid phrase like "San Francisco Values" ???

The only thing I find offensive is the seeming ignorance of the fact that there are many gheys in rural Missouri along with relatives of the ghey folks who might not like to see their loved ones demonized. Also, I was disappointed that there was disco music but no interracial dancing this time around.

Seriously, Mayor Kay has a record of big spending but Graves also has his own problems with his GW Bush rubber stamp record as well . . . I guess running a divisive campaign based on identity politics is probably easier than really talking about what these two have done in office.

The "devil" did it. Or whatever.

Snake Blamed In Bonner Springs Power Outage . . . Click the photo (NSFW), just linked this story as an excuse to (once again) celebrate Showtime's photoshopping prowess when it comes to Mary Louise Parker's ass.

    WOF won't go away!!!

In 30 minutes expect a lot of barking from bitches who want to provide tax payer funded luxury for their pets IN SOMEBODY ELSE'S NEIGHBORHOOD!!!

New KC blog: How Do I make my mark?

I'm becoming a fan of "confessional" Kansas City blogs if only because they offer original content and show some thought put into the writing rather than silly link compilations (like mine) and knee jerk reactions to the news. This KC blog is top notch . . . Check it out.

Same old half dozen anony white guys on the KC Internets support light rail but only if their extra smart suggestions are taken

KC Light rails offers "analysis" that basically amounts to head nodding . . . No homo? TKC just doesn't understand why the crew isn't happy playing on the KC Rag Forum (The premiere place for Kansas City construction cheerleading).

    The TKC Light Rail Poll

I'd like to know what you d-bags think about the news light rail plan (or lack thereof) . . . Take my poll. (No homo)

Vote early and often, like all Kansas City votes . . . It's rigged.

TKC AM Links: Don't trust the Internets!!!

  • DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING ON THE INTERNETS!!! Police: Email About Power & Light District Danger was a Hoax!!!

  • That's not bad for 3 BILLION DOLLARS: Rail transit could be here in five to seven years, Funkhouser says.

  • President Bush to honor UMKC Student. Go Roos.

  • Three Held in Olathe Shooting

  • EXACTLY THE RESULTS THEY PAID FOR: Poll Suggests Support for Regional Mass Transit

  • Love and evidence don't live here anymore: Citing a lack of evidence, Jackson County prosecutors recently dismissed charges against a man who had been accused of killing his lover.

  • Fetus politics forevermore: The attorney for Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline says Planned Parenthood is trying to use its political clout to get out of criminal charges.

  • TKC isn't the worst former lover out there: Man Accused Of Holding Woman Captive

  • Cash Crunch: Credit Union Robbed In Kansas City
  • The Disaster Continues: Don't mess with kickbacks in the KC School District!!!

KC Talk gets the credit they deserve!!!

Kansas City's Chad Franklin Controversy first started on KC Talk . . . KSHB followed up with some insightful reporting, even more research and nicely promoted video segments.

There was a bit of controversy about attribution but in the end I was happy to see the station acknowledge the work of KC Talk with their latest follow up report on the story:

Deal Or No Deal Part IV: Chad Franklin Customers Meet
The Internet has become a powerful tool for frustrated consumers but Chad Franklin Suzuki customers are reaching out to each other beyond the blogoshpere. Chad Franklin customers have been calling for action and also posting their stories online. Now their voices are being heard more than just in a forum.

For months, Chad Franklin customers have spoken online posting their stories on the KCTalk Forum.
Actually, I was pretty impressed not only that that station picked up at the story but also that more than 2 dozen KC Talkers congregated, the local media reported and people shared their tales of woe without insulting Frank . . . That d-bag.

    Comedy, Colbert with Claire

Here's yesterday's highly anticipated Comedy Central segment featuring Claire McCaskill on the Colbert Report . . . It's really funny if you fit the right demographic: Middle-class, white, liberal and most likely just a little bit the ghey.

When I want to see older white ladies joke around I just watch Chanel 2.

TKC Told you so: Royals STILL suck!!!

    Royals LOSE 10 straight

    Independence and bullets

2 Killed In Independence Double Shooting

    Kansas City blogger blind item

It's important not to take blogs too seriously.

This blog is fun and that's why I do it (along with the $5 per visitor I'm paid by a large multi-national corporation) . . . Anyhoo, when bloggers start worrying about their influence or who is reading their mostly unmemorable tripe . . . That's always a sign of trouble.

Recently, a Kansas City blogger was caught by a politico using the same kind of language and references that appear in a variety of mean spirited, anti-Semitic and mostly insulting anony comments in local political message boards round Kansas City . . . Even worse, the dude is a SERIOUS political blogger so there's really no way he can play it all of as a joke - A tactic that TKC has perfected. Also, the dude isn't funny at all . . . And I think that he's going through a hard time personally (most likely a continued bout with impotence from what I've hard from a few gabby, local lady bloggers).

Anyhoo . . . The whole thing represents nothing more than a bit more hurt feelings because of Kansas City blogs!!! Sadly, when it comes to Kansas City political blogging I believe that hard feelings and mindless chatter is about the only result one could hope for given the relatively low interest and that fact that blogs about more interesting topics generate far more traffic. For instance: Stuff White People like has had more than 20 million views and will soon be publishing a book.

TKC manages to keep this whole blogging thing in perspective and that's why this (local) Internet Juggernaut stays more interesting than silly political groupies who overestimate their INFLUENCE.

Also, photos of half naked white women help.

Old School Kansas City Democrat Club provides great clues for candidates to avoid!

The CCP recently made their endorsements:

    Attorney General: Jeff Harris
    Treasurer: Clint Zweifel
    Lt. Gov.: Sam Page
    44th State House: Amy Coffman
    Prosecutor: Jim Kanatzer
    Sheriff: John Bullard

Look for these candidates to uphold the lack of enthusiasm, diversity and innovation that marks Democracy in Kansas City and guarantees traditionally low voter turnout.

Normally, hate to agree with white people from JoCo but the guy has a point

Money Line from the JoCo SOB: "The Mayors new light rail plan might be the worst one to date. Who plans a transit system that takes you nowhere?"

Mediocrity in one more sport: It's always entertaining watching Kansas City lose!!!

I'm a tad late on this one but sadly I didn't see it mentioned in the MANY inexplicable Wizards blogs out there . . . And seriously, why would somebody start a blog about the Wizards if they weren't being paid for it?

Anyway, watching Kansas City lose is a favorite pastime of mine and in a rather popular clip this town is embarrassed by none other than David Beckham.

More than 100k viewers on Youtube so far have seen David Beckham score a 70 yard goal against the Kansas City Wizards.

For what it's worth, soccer really isn't my thing but the clip was kind of cool and just another reminder that this town's mediocrity in sports is now extending to the world's favorite pastime . . . Soccer (also preferred by men who can't compete in any macho activity involving upper body strength . . . Like video games, dwarf tossing or ho slappin').

Kinda liking the Kansas City Weather

It has been cool and cloudy and this week and I can't complain. The weather makes it less conspicuous that I haven't mowed my lawn AND it's nice to walk around without freezing or sweating buckets.

Surprisingly, both of the most popular Kansas City Weather blogs have been pretty accurate with their predictions as of late:

  • KC Weather.org: Pleasant springtime weather on the way for the next several days

  • And Gary Lezak pretty much notes the same but with a lot of interesting photos.

One of my favorite people in town loves this time of year and I understand it now. For some reason things almost seem . . . Peaceful, which naturally makes me worried because it reminds me of "the calm before the storm." Nevertheless, I'm actually enjoying it and it provides a rare excuse to venture outdoors.

TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! The Sprint Center is above the law!!! Huge corporations don't need to comply with Kansas City's anti-billboard ordinance!!!

A few weeks ago I was driving East and I noticed a disturbing sight. A monster billboard was glowing in downtown and its light could be seen all the way to the Westside. As I moved closer, I saw that the huge billboard was advertising the victory of some suburban guy on a TV show I've never watched. I had things to do so I didn't investigate further.

Last night on Google I looked up the billboard and confirmed my suspicions that the sign is relatively new. An article in The Star on April 28th, 2008 confirms the new(ish) construction. Corporate shills that they are, The Star tries to quash debate over the billboard:
That big, black, metal monster rising by the new Sprint Center may look like a double-faced billboard, but it’s actually the “marquee sign” included in the arena development agreement.

The 25-foot-tall sign is nearing completion at the corner of the arena loading dock area near the intersection of Grand Boulevard and Truman Road. The panels are actually 17-by-50-foot electronic LED boards and will provide the same kind of dazzling video capability as the arena scoreboard inside.
It seems to me that's not a quote but a justification. Nevertheless, one fact is clear:

OUTSIDE OF THE SPRINT CENTER THERE IS A HUGE BILLBOARD THAT VIOLATES A RECENT KANSAS CITY ORDINANCE!!!

Kansas City effectively banned billboards last year, before the Sprint Center opened and before they even started construction on the billboard.

The two justifications touted by the corporate soapbox otherwise known as The Star don't stand up to scrutiny:

  • This Sprint Center is calling it a "marquee" which means they're simply playing a lame name game that clearly violates the spirit of the law. If that kind of justification stands up then I guess that would make crack legal if you just called it "happy rock."

  • The Star touting a previous agreement is inconsequential, THE LAW HAS CHANGED!!! The law changed before the thing was ever built but Kansas City's downtown is now governed at the behest of the large corporations occupying space inside the loop and producing very little of the revenue they promised.

By the way, the argument that billboard is a "marquee" is simply moronic. The sign even advertises the same kind of garbage that's slapped on every other billboard in sight:

Even worse, the malfeasance of the Sprint Center shows a blatant disrespect for the locals who worked so hard to pass the anti-billboard ordinance. If the Sprint Center doesn't obey the law, why should anybody else?

In the final analysis, there is absolutely no difference between the Sprint Center Billboard and the other billboards that the people of Kansas City worked to prohibit. It's a huge electric, double-sided, monstrosity, visible for miles and intended to attract customers.

Once again, there's a sign that the law doesn't apply to everyone and it's glowing brightly downtown at this very moment reminding everyone that corporations don't need to play by the rules in Kansas City.

Top 5 Reasons Mayor Funky's Regional Light Rail Plan will fail

There will be more talk of Mayor Funky's light rail scheme today, most of it just will be focused on the sloppy plan put forth by Mayor Funky.

    5. Half the region (JoCo & WyCo) already said NO.

    4. So far, the way Mayor Funky has sold the plan (Pie Charts and Power Point) has only succeeded in putting people to sleep.

    3. The patchwork of transfers and bus extensions make Clay Chastain's gondolas seem thoughtful by comparison.

    2. Gloria Squitiro doesn't think the "No Shirt, No Shoes" rule for boarding KC's Light Rail should apply to her.

    1. The exorbitant cost $1.2 BILLION is still slightly more expensive than a gallon of gas and considering that the system will only increase commute times . . . The number crunching Mayor should have figured that few people are willing to pass a regressive tax simply to push forward his failed foray into politics.

    Keeping KCK Beautiful

Joe Faus is a great guy and I've been a fan of his work for a long time. Recently, the very impressive KCK Public Library Media blog featured a couple of great posts about his murals.
Over the past four years, artists Joe Faus and Alisha Gambino have overseen the creation of eight large-scale murals in downtown Kansas City, Kansas. Under a program initiated by City Vision Ministries, Joe and Alisha worked to create a series of murals representing the richly diverse cultural histories found here in KCK.
The second part of an interview with Faus is even more informative and details some of the inspiration for his creations like the one featured above entitled "El Baile de la Vida" meaning "The Dance of Life."

Obviously the guy is extremely talented and what I find even more impressive are the huge murals around KCK which depict the longstanding roots and burgeoning impact of Latino culture in the metro area.

After the vote for Independence to leave the KC School District, the arbitration process to turn over buildings seems endless: Kansas City says the buildings are worth $43.2 million; Independence puts their value at $4.6 million. A resolution is nowhere in sight and Independence officals seriously underestimated the capability of the KC School District to engage in endless, expensive and mean spirited litigation.

Nick Sloan Exclusive: We can all learn something from the fate of Indian Springs!!!

Apparently, they're still trying to do something with the dilapidated mall in Kansas City, Kansas - A local blogger/newsie reports:
Representatives from Raul Walker Properties made a presentation to the Kansas City, Kan., Board of Education Tuesday night to highlight a proposed 127,000 square feet office campus at the property of the former Indian Springs Shopping Mall.

The property would be used to maintain the district’s Education Center, which would include a 47,000 square ft. preschool and an 80,000 administrative center. An option to incorporate 60,000 of additional square ft. is also available for the district.
Personally, I think if the mall is going to be used for educational purposes . . . There should be a special section set aside offering a historical perspective about a fact which not only determined the destiny of the old mall but also affects this town today: White people in Kansas City don't like buying things when minorities are nearby!!!

Local politicos still figuring out e-mail

The long standing Republican outrage against the guy who keeps beating them could be picking up some steam thanks to Internet blunders. As I go on with my local bloggy adventures I realize that it's not so important to have every single news story that appears in Kansas City linked on this page, just the ones that interest me. Trouble is, I'm interested in a lot therefore this blog is filled to the brim with a great many news items related to this town AND photos of hot ass white women. So far, it seems to be working and I seem to be learning more about local issues AND that we can disagree about local politics but photo galleries of women in skimpy bikinis seem to unite us all. Women too for some (not so strange) reason.

Stop Snitchin stifles Kansas City reporters

I do most of my "reporting" from my mom's basement so I have a lot of respect for local newsies who are forced to go out in the field and face the real world consequences of forgotten local communities . . . Even if said reporting happens a lot less than TKC would like.

Recently, a TV industry mag ran a feature story on the dangers of Crime Scene reporting that included tales from Kansas City. Check it:
With 15 years in investigative reporting, from the bloody crack battles of Buffalo to a particularly murderous stretch in Minneapolis, KCTV Kansas City anchor/reporter Craig Nigrelli has developed a fair amount of street savvy when it comes to ferreting out a violent-crime story. But nothing in his bag of tricks could elicit eyewitness information following a deadly melee outside a Knights of Columbus hall in July 2006.

Two college students were killed and 10 more wounded as some 60 shots were fired in a brawl outside the hall. A few hundred people were at the event, yet when police and reporters began canvassing for information, no one seemed to have seen a thing.

Nigrelli says the code of silence surrounding violent crime, the product of a grass-roots campaign called “Stop Snitching,” has a chokehold on Kansas City. At various times while he’s been interviewing witnesses, someone will walk by, repeatedly muttering “click-clock, click-clock”—simulating the sound of a gun cocking and firing. As one might expect, the witnesses promptly clam up.
That's kind of scary, the ubiquitous, nearly unintelligible and sometimes hilarious "at the scene" interview is now in danger because some stupid fad started by scumbags who were just trying to sell t-shirts and DVDs.

The AWESOME NEWSIE Tipster who sent me this my way had also once spotted somebody holding a gun in the field . . . Sadly, I'm not hearing that this situation has grown any better after a ground breaking article about the local phenomenon was published in '05. Nevertheless, I guess it's good that news people are talking even if a large portion of the community has been silenced along with most Kansas City politicos who have ignored the problem of violent crime in Kansas City.

Mayor Funky's boring plan means failure for regional light rail in Kansas City!!!

I'm not going to get into the specifics of the light rail plan. It's posted on the City's website if you want to take a look.

I just want to note two things:

  • TKC was correct: JOCO HAS OPTED OUT OF REGIONAL LIGHT RAIL THEREFORE IT'S NOT REALLY REGIONAL AND NEGLECTS ONE OF THE LARGEST COLLECTION OF COMMUTERS IN THE KANSAS CITY METRO AREA!!! This really isn't a good sign and voters need to realize that the success of the plan is in jeopardy from the very start given that so many don't want any part of it.

  • FUNKHOUSER'S PRESENTATION OF HIS PLAN WAS MAGNIFICENTLY BORING!!! HE'S SELLING A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR ENDEAVOR WITH POWERPOINT!!! Sadly, I've looked over the plan a little bit and local news has started its reporting.

  • Not once have I seen:

  • Flashy 3d Computer Graphics

  • Neat looking drawings

  • Any excitement

Seriously, I hate to acknowledge it but Clay Chastain did a better job of presenting his vision the included ridiculous gondolas.

This dull presentation of charts and graphs fits the Mayor's dour demeanor but it just doesn't work when your asking people to take out their pocket book. Mayor Funkhouser's supreme arrogance insists that everyone should follow his lead because he knows best but he's not convincing and if this is the best he can do to persuade people than I'm actually not worried the thing passing at all. There's a significant contingent of people who want light rail and Kansas City and so far the boring, dour and dismissive Mayor doesn't seem to be doing a good job leading them. Sadly, Mayor Funkhouser has shown that he's far too stubborn to take any advice, wake up and stop putting people to sleep when it comes to the future of transportation in Kansas City.
  • In local tech news: Flying Saucer website keeps track of Kansas City's top drinkers!!!

The beer blog has another great post about the Flying Saucer in the P&L District. It's pretty informative and has actually piqued my interest about the place . . . Even better, drinking could lead to Internets fame on their website which is almost as rewarding as blogging . . . ugh.

Helping homeless Vets in Kansas City!!!

Hey, it's not a holiday so Kansas City's blogosphere can stop posting self-righteous blog entries about how much they support veterans, right? Actually, that's kinda wrong and I just received an AWESOME link to a local webpage which informed me that homeless people in this town ARE NOT just so-called "visual blight" but also people who have served our country. While checking out out KC STAND DOWN.ORG I learned that:

  • On any given night, there are 1,800 homeless veterans in Kansas City. (Note: I thought this number was kinda high but then again this town only mentions our homeless when it comes to removing them from the Plaza and moving them away from the P&L District so I'm not really well informed on the subject.)

  • 87 percent of these homeless veterans suffer from mental illness and/or a substance abuse disorder.

  • Veterans are disproportionately likely to experience homelessness in their lifetimes.

  • Veterans make up 11% of the US population 18 and older but over 25% of the homeless population (National Alliance to End Homelessness)

The blog's title refers to a local event (a "stand down") at which homeless Veterans are provided a number of social services in order to help get them back on their feet. The next one is Friday & Saturday June 6 & 7 at Manual Career and Tech Center 1215 E. Truman Rd. KCMO.
  • The plan to make Kansas City Co-Mayor Gloria Squitiro pay it back!!!

Here's what Kansas City Internet denizens should know: THEIR CONCERNS ARE BEING HEARD EVEN THOUGH THE COUNCIL WOULD PROBABLY DENY READING BLOGS OR BLOG COMMENTS!!!

In fact, I think it's safe to say that the Internet folks who've been posting about Gloria Squitiro's culpability in the Mammy-Gate fiasco are FAR MORE INFLUENTIAL than so many local pundits who have either ignored the case or downplayed its importance. But make no mistake, despite claims to the contrary, the issue of financial liability for Mammy-Gate was an issue brought to the forefront by the Kansas City blogosphere.

To wit, the move to make employees PAY BACK any damages sought against the City makes it clear that everybody inside City Hall knows that the Co-Mayors are going to lose the forthcoming lawsuit against them soon to be filed by the victim of a racial slur.
A Kansas City councilman wants the city to escape the cost of any damages that could come from discrimination claims against city representatives.

The proposal would require elected officials, employees and volunteers to repay the city if their actions result in penalties either in court or in a settlement.

Councilman Ed Ford said Friday that it is coincidence that he introduced his resolution four days after mayoral aide Ruth Bates, who filed a racial discrimination complaint against the mayor’s office, was given her walking papers after declining a reassignment.
This kind of initiative is a ballsy step toward making somebody like Squitiro accountable for her own behavior but I'm afraid that in the end when the Co-Mayors lose their case against Bates because of cowardly retaliation and repeated derogatory remarks, they might simply have to take out yet another loan against their house in order to pay back Kansas City.

I don't know why, I just thought this link was somewhat interesting and a nice look at local folks into flowers during the mid part of last century. Double Bonus: It reminded me of my least favorite crappy 90's band.

    This town is trashy

Some local bloggers examine our waste (ew - I've had a lot of corn lately) and the post they came up with is called: "The Worst of Kansas City" . . . It's kind of sad but all of the material documented seems as if it will be recycled which is slightly less useless.

Damn it!!! Don't you dare question the Mayor about the details!!!

So, I guess nobody is going to mention that the new plan for light rail doesn't seem to be including Johnson County.

In fact, from a few leaked details that I've heard the stupid plan that didn't even get the tax figures right very closely resembles Clay Chastain's old scheme that went out to the airport. Sans Gondolas. Sigh.

I don't know how or IF leaving out the area with the most commuters (and SUVs) represents a sound "regional" plan but the fact is that Mayor Funky has been completely shut out by the JoCo political crowd who don't want any part this pricey plan. Of course they'll be some kind of subterfuge that claims that JoCo can link up whenever they "come around" to the idea but the fact is that there's no sound commitment from the Golden Ghetto.

The substitute plan seems to be nothing more than a glorified airport shuttle that still doesn't have a lot of support from the higher ups in Jackson County . . . Just don't tell anybody.

    In the house

A "Sausage Plant with Adjoining Residence" was a nice choice for a recent Northeast News featured home. The history of the place is cool but I still don't think I could hang my hat anywhere that could be described as a sausage fest. NO HOMO, of course.

    Our sisters

Not news, just an interesting fact I wanted to confrim . . . I knew Kansas City had a sister city program but I never knew all of the towns involved. Here's a quick list which includes the year they were added:

  • Seville, Spain (1967)
  • Kurashiki, Japan (1972)
  • Morelia, Mexico (1973)
  • Freetown, Sierra Leone (1974)
  • Tainan City, Taiwan (1978)
  • Xi'an, China (1989)
  • Guadalajara, Mexico (1991)
  • Hannover, Germany (1993)
  • Port Harcourt, Nigeria (1993)
  • Arusha, Tanzania (1995)
  • San Nicolas de los Garza, Mexico (1997)
  • Ramle, Israel (1998)

Obviously there's a pretty heavy Mexican influence but I'm glad to point out that since the recent wave of anti-immigrant (anti-business) sentiment that most (brown) people from any of these nations would be unwelcome in Kansas City. Natch.
  • Off Season Report: Chiefs still suck

USA Today offers a decent roundup of this town's football . . . Longtime fans already know the drill: Hopeful talk until the mid-season collapse which is then followed with even more nonsense about the mid to late season implosion can no longer be ignored

Kansas City is a Ghost Town

City officials estimate there are 6,000 abandoned homes, many of them in the urban core with only $900k budgeted to deal with them. Sadly, Mayor Funky only cuts funds for stuff like this and forgot about all of the phony promises he made about "the broken windows theory" during the campaign.

Still, keeping jazz on the Kansas City airwaves will undoubtedly help to put local insomniacs to sleep.

The Great Kansas City Fried Chicken Heist!!!

Crime doesn't pay kids and sometimes it's just embarrassing. Over the weekend a robbery of a KFC near East 47th Street and Troost Avenue proved that criminal masterminds are few and far between right her in River City. Surveillance tapes got a crystal clear look at a suspect in an armed robbery but also saw an employee run out of the quick service restaurant the second he saw a gun. I know what you're thinking, "What a mother cluckin, chicken!!!" Maybe so, but the strategy worked: The thief didn't get any cash and purveyors of fried chicken in this town are now on the lookout for the suspect who should soon get a hefty serving of justice.

So it's not just because I'm nasty

From KMBC: "Insects March Into Kansas City Homes During Warm Spring" . . . TKC Note: I recently killed a spider as big as my hand yesterday. Wake up and smell this: Serving up coffee and exhaust fumes in Kansas City!!!

I recently stumbled upon a really nice review of the Ethos Coffee Company from KC Perky.

It's kind of an awesome concept, they serve up freshly brewed java out of the back of their Scion xB at trendy events often frequented by the upwardly mobile. At the few places I've seen them, the roving coffee crews have been overwhelmed by significant crowds who seem to enjoy the novelty of getting pricey coffee from a cool looking car as much as the beverage itself.

Of course I hate anything that's more expensive than the motor oil they serve up at QuickTrip but I'm all about economy over taste and style . . . Which might be the reason why I usually just throw nasty looks at the people who buy this kind of stuff. Also, my business plan to sell eggs that I fried on my engine block has yet to drum up the kind of interest that these coffee dudes have created even though IT'S BASICALLY THE SAME IDEA!!! Bastards.

    Vaya Con Dios

The Kansas City Catholic Calls it quits. I'm noticing a lot of great local bloggers giving up the ghost lately and not so many new ones taking their place. It's probably a sign from above that most of you d-bags should stop posting lame photos and start using this social network for something other than reinforcing your own middle-class values. Then again, photos of cats are adorable.

Kansas City doesn't care about the troops

I think this is a good way to end Memorial Day on this blog; Apparently support for the troops in Kansas City is at an all time low according to one of those dudes who sends our care packages.
Jeff Relitz and his wife run the operation out of their living room, sending everything from golf clubs to snacks to toiletries and bed sheets. They have also shipped 400 Christmas trees. Seventy pallets are supposed to go out this week, but donations are down, and there's no money for postage.

“Yeah, they've gone down the tubes,” Relitz said about donations.

This year's biggest fundraiser was a flop.

“The one we had last year, we got $7,000.” Relitz said. “The one we had Friday? We got $362.”
I was going to point out other recent bloggy examples of support for the troops in Kansas City to contradict the story but I couldn't find any . . . Maybe the dude has a point. One of my first stops was a local chapter of "The Soldiers' Angels" but I see that they haven't updated their blog since September of last year. So maybe the assertion by the dude featured in the story is correct and it wouldn't be out of line to suggest that overall the Kansas City blogosphere hates the troops judging from the fact that there are far more posts in this town about the best place to drink a beer on a patio.

Certainly, this blog is far more dedicated to following the careers of C-list bikini models than the constant bad news or blatant propaganda coming out of Iraq. And I think it was a couple of years ago that TKC declared that the War in Iraq was lost. And by the way, it's not really much of a war but more like an occupation or a siege which can never be sustained indefinitely.

Anyhoo, if any of you d-bags reading at this hour are interested in helping the dude, his website is aptly titled: ustroopsupport.org/ and the story by KSHB reporter Russ Ptacek was actually kind of kick ass given that it came after all of the platitudes expressed during the parades and such and revealed that when it comes to a grass roots level Kansas City couldn't care less about anybody in Iraq . . . Afganistan too, I almost completely forgot about them like virtually everyone working in the media.

TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! This blog uses sarcasm to fight for Freedom and Democracy!!!

Just a bit of follow up here but it's important . . .

By far the race for Jackson County Sheriff has been the most entertaining election so far and TKC is happy to have contributed to the valiant efforts of these candidates.

A little while ago I noted that one of the candidates had been using an endorsement that wasn't quite kosher. Uncharacteristically, I even did a bit of research in order to back up my claim.

Well, because of TKC, awesome tipsters and the readers of this blog. The unsanctioned endorsement has been taken down!!!! NOTE: This kind of makes the claims that the endorsement was good seem silly in retrospect. TKC gets to say I told you so once again . . .

Anyhoo . . . Through the awesome POWER OF THE BLOGOSPHERE yet another politico has been held accountable and decided to do the right thing in the end. Actually, that's kind of cool and just a small contribution to this thing we call free speech and Democracy!!!

More importantly, several others have already noted, today is actually a time when people should celebrate and honor the contribution of folks who have given something significant to this nation with their service. Thank you.

FREEDOM for the dumbest white woman ever to live in the Kansas City area today!!!

Toby Young is about to be a free woman. She’s set to be released from a halfway house on Monday. I know this story makes me exceptionally happy given that if ANYONE else pulled this kind of stunt they would have been buried under the jail or at least killed while being captured.

The conclusion of Shane's meat experiment (no homo).

    KANSAS CITY PARKING CRISIS!!!

Westport charging for parking . . . Strangely, over the weekend this was the story that everybody was talking about . . . BlogKC doesn't see much of a difference but I'm wondering if this will mean fewer DUI stops around the area, which could be the benefit of so many bar folk moving to the P&L District.

    Life is Tweet

So I was thinking that Twitter is better than blogging.

First of all there's really not that much "pressure" for people to post and I like the fact that posts are limited to 140 characters. Even better, it represents more of a "network" than blogging and everybody can establish their own feed or community. It's kinda genius actually.

Anyhoo . . . Without Twitter I would have never found these awesome Kansas City blogs:

  • Ramblings of a Geek

  • Derekville.net

  • And some great photos from Star Puncher.

As you can can see, over this weekend I've pretty much ignored any "pressure" to post stuff and today's offerings will be light . . . But it kinda figures the one day I picked to try and venture outdoors would be cloudy and will probably rain.

Eh, as with everything . . . I'll see what I can do and I'll offer this photo set of Roxanne Pallet as a substitute for interesting content regarding Kansas City.

  • Incidentally, I just stumbled upon a sad truth: The better this blog does, the worse my personal life gets and vice versa. Ugh.

The TKC Saturday Night Playlist: On Memorial Day Weekend it's clear that Kansas City's crappy urban neighborhoods have been forgotten!!!

Now more than ever it's clear that Supremacy runs Kansas City and any promise of addressing the problems of the po'folk and minorities in the urban core was nothing but campaign lies and the same kind of empty rhetoric this town has heard for generations.

Here are just a few examples:

  • Without a doubt Kansas City Cycling Advocates represent the most elitist, discriminatory and selfish special interest group in the entire metro area. This group is completely dominated by white middle-class hobbyists who greedily lobby for money that would be better spent on KC neighborhoods. Their hobby is over represented in the local discourse simply because most people fail to see through their the guilt-ridden, pseudo-environmental tactics. But rest assured, this crowd only cares when white cyclists are victims of tragic accidents, their ranks are almost completely filled with hipsters and middle-class white people and the attention they've garnered for their pet cause is mostly about ego, vanity and the drive to push a cause that doesn't really benefit anyone but themselves. These cowards are confusing riding a bike for taking a real stand on an important issue . . . Sadly, local politicians eager to please any non-threatening constituency have been mislead by this ultra-liberal cabal.

  • Recently there's been a lot of excitement about fake numbers supporting light rail. Despite the lack of any real evidence for light rail support in Kansas City these numbers only seem to confirm to me that THE URBAN CORE IN KANSAS CITY DOESN'T WANT LIGHT RAIL!!! Every plan ignores the Eastside or any community where po'folk live. Mayor Funky has once again proven that he's really a representative of suburban communities with his pursuit of this scheme . . . Sadly, KC cheerleaders are following the lead of the misguided Mayor that's strikingly similar to the construction of the Sprint Center - It's an unsound plan, with little promise of support and people still value the convenience of cars even when gas hits $10 bucks a gallon. In Los Angeles light rail has failed and people would still rather face one of the worst rush hours in the nation rather than deal with long commute times and all of the hassles that keep most people from currently riding public transportation i.e. the bus.

  • And in all this mindless Kansas City cheerleading there's seldom mention of the rapidly decaying sewers other than more naive and flighty "green solutions" for problems that require serious thought about infrastructure. For the most part, neither the Council nor the Mayor want to talk about Kansas City Sewers UNTIL AFTER they get the money they want for Light Rail . . . Damn it, if deferred maintenance isn't still a way of life in this town.

  • Finally, for years TKC has linked and written about the crime problem that has mostly been ignored in this town. Every summer there's a virtual bloodbath in Kansas City's urban communities. Mayor Funkhouser has made it clear that he has nothing to contribute to this discussion but the responsibility for the situation doesn't stop with him (especially since he refuses to take any) . . . Time and again Kansas City will cry over missing white women but ignore the death of almost all people of color.

  • And all of this boils down to a simple fact: KANSAS CITY'S MEDIA, POLITICOS AND MIDDLE-CLASS PEOPLE AREN'T CONCERNED WITH THE PLIGHT OF THE PO'FOLK AND MINORITIES IN THE URBAN CORE!!! Their schemes often invoke "the Black part of town" or whatever moniker they devise but they rarely involve these communities. Time and again we've seen development and the political discourse avoid any participation with poor and minority communities in Kansas City . . . That's why I see little need to support the pipe dreams of Kansas City's privileged class that so often seek to co-opt people of color.

Honestly, unless there are big booty white women offering "favors" for regional light rail . . . These plans that mostly cut out the poor and minority sections of Kansas City should be universally opposed by people from these communities. In the end, like all construction projects in Kansas City since the days of Pendergast, projects like The Sprint Center and the proposed light rail scheme have been nothing but efforts for affluent white people to benefit financially while excluding, ignoring and building on top of people of color.

Therefore, here's a list of songs to remind us that history hasn't changed all that much and Kansas City's crappy urban core has been forgotten in the public discourse very much like soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan when there's not a political point to be made . . . Check it:

  • The O'Jays - Love Train
  • Art Carney - Song of the Sewer
  • Queen - Bicycle
  • Tomorrow- My White Bicycle
  • Shalamar - Forget Me Nots

  • That's all my ranting for this week. Thank you for reading. Have a safe and fun Saturday Night.

Cop shoots Cop in Kansas City!!!

An accidental shooting sends one Kansas City Police Officer to the hospital. Police say the officer was accidentally shot by another officer. In other news, I'm thinking most of my clothes for this summer will contain some element of safety orange since this Kansas City streets have pretty much become a shooting gallery.

One more reason never to vote for women!!!

LMC provides a thoughtful analysis about sexism related to female candidates. Apparently, the wicked witch running for prez and either hoping to be a spoiler or wishing for an assassination brings to light accusations of sexism or at least another clear demonstration that most broads don't know what they're talking about . . . But TKC wouldn't dare compare all females to Bill Clinton's mom or whoever. I'm sure there are a lot of women qualified to hold political office in much the same way that there are probably a couple of dudes who can make a scrumptious holiday dinner. It just doesn't work out that way very often.

Choke on this lawsuit Kansas City!!!

I was thinking that the divisiveness and animosity we've seen recently under Mayor Funky and the City Council has been manifested in the many lawsuits KC has seen in the last year. Honestly, this seems to be the era of the lawsuit in Kansas City at a time when this town is without a leader who can build a consensus.

Local Bar and Restaurant owners are the latest contingent to take their cause to court and the following list comprises the group who filed a lawsuit against Kansas City government Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court in an effort to halt recently adopted smoking restrictions.

  • New Majestic Steakhouse
  • Dave’s Stagecoach Inn
  • The Peppermill Lounge South
  • Diebel’s Sportsmen’s Gallery
  • Ward Parkway Lanes
  • The Brooksider Sports Bar and Grill
  • Davey’s Uptown Ramblers Club,
  • The Dark Horse Tavern
  • Buzzard Beach

  • And while some would say that these establishments care more about profits than their employees, I think that's kind of harsh. It's just a case of timing, obviously these establishments simply want the cash of their nicotine addicted patrons BEFORE they die of cancer . . . Which sorta makes sense but doesn't seem to take into account long-term repeat business. Nevertheless, cashing in on the dying seems like a pretty effective business strategy . . . Just ask the Insurance Companies. I just didn't think local bars and eateries where so hardcore, ruthless and uncaring . . . Which, in turn, kind of makes me feel a lot less guilty for not tipping.

    KANSAS CITY SUCKERS!!!

More than 50 percent of poll respondents in Jackson, Clay and Platte counties indicated they favored a half-cent sales tax increase to pay for a three-county light-rail system, according to polling done this month by veteran pollster Pat Gray’s firm and obtained by The Kansas City Star.

More importantly, MAYOR FUNKY IS NOW USING FORMER MAYOR KAY'S OLD PR FIRM!!!

THIS UNLUCKY 7-11 IN KANSAS CITY HAS BEEN ROBBED 8 TIMES THIS YEAR!!!

Last night was the latest robbery. Even worse, there were several customers inside when the robbery went down. Eventually somebody is going to get killed or seriously hurt during a holdup and it will not only be the fault of the perpetrator of the crime but also the management who has failed to provide even a modicum of security. Also, I blame frozen burritos and slushies for being so delicious.

Sprint Center still empty: One more reason why Kansas City came up short

I recently stumbled upon a blog post which details one more reason why the Sprint Center remains without an anchor tenant . . .
It was said that the good folks of the midwest, in Kansas City, were ready to welcome the Penguins with open arms -- should there be a breakup in Pittsburgh. But Lemieux again ensured that the Penguins would never leave. He acknowledged putting the team up for sale, but only with the proviso that it remain in Pennsylvania. There was no way Mario Lemieux would let his hockey team move to Missouri, to a town that had tried and failed once already as an NHL entity.
Tales of loyalty to a hometown are nice, sadly that's something that professional athletes haven't shown to Kansas City in more than a generation.

Two KCPD cops soon to be FIRED for miscarriage of justice!!!

The Kansas City Police Board will fire two officers in the Sofia Salva miscarriage case.

Personally, I think it was the right decision and it's actually quite comforting that local authorities including the Chief of Police realize that people of color and their unborn offspring deserve medical treatment no matter what the circumstance. This decision is one of many reasons why TKC has much more faith in the KCPD over all of the other second rate security guards who call themselves cops in the suburbs.

Coming soon . . . The part where every racist in town cries foul and angrily argues that minorities don't deserve to live while defending cops who ignore their training and crassly forget about the dead baby in this case.

    Update:

One of the most outspoken advocates for the termination of the officers, Alonzo Washington, has already filed a post on the subject on his blog. Money line: "Those 2 cops had the power to undo all the work activists & cops have been trying to build."

The TKC Roundup and Review: What have we learned this week Kansas City?

Let's close (empty) Kansas City Museums!!!

Really, there's no point keeping so many Kansas City museums open considering that nobody wants to fund them, they can't stay open through private donations AND they're mostly empty so raising admission rates would be out of the question.

Of course, this is in reference to a recent effort to raise taxes for local museums that mercifully failed:
After just one day of debate, a city council member has killed a proposal to raise property taxes for museums. Just yesterday, a council committee recommended putting the Museum Tax on the ballot in August for voters to decide. But it's now been pulled off the table, and Deb Hermann, the City Council Finance Chair, describes the plan - desperately wanted by the museum at Union Station - as dead.
Given that we're in a recession and NONE OF THE PRICEY MUSEUMS IN THIS TOWN CAN PULL THEIR OWN WEIGHT . . . TKC would like to help out and I'm providing a list of museums in the metro that should be closed:

  • Union Station . . . The decadent display of dead bodies (of Chinese insurgents) didn't work . . . The place is a morgue and I really don't care if they close considering that they don't have much regard for people of color or human dignity.

  • 18th and Vine - I won't get into specifics but I'm pretty sure that everything that KC is subsidizing on this street isn't working. The place has never attracted a crowd and now that the main proponent for the district has passed away, it'll probably upset fewer people than anyone realizes to turn out the lights.

  • The Kansas City Museum - Really, there's no reason to go after they took the igloo out about 10 years ago.

  • Liberty Memorial - By far Kansas City's most expensive failure and probably the most depressing monument in the United States. However, the location would make a primo spot for more condos!!!

I'm sure I could come up with more examples but this list is a great starting point and a gentle reminder that most supporters for Kansas City museums comes from people who don't actually have to pay for them.
  • Keep dreaming (and paying for Improv "classes") Kansas City!!!

The Kansas City Improv blog informs us that Daily Show correspondent Rob Riggle was raised right here in Kansas City. JoCo actually.

Still, it just goes to show that if you're willing to sacrifice you too can become a minor character actor!!!

Follow-up: KCK guy who was extremely unkind to pregnant woman was recently captured in Florida

Skanks are a growth industry: Better to stay cozy and completely naked in Kansas City

Planning and Zoning Committee killed the effort to cover up the strippers at Temptations, take down the gaudy sign and give them permission to expand.

So, for the time being the strippers stay naked . . . Kansas City stays winning and they myth of the Downtown Renaissance continues to be a popular misconception.

Republicans in Missouri don't know how to use the Internet or the Constitution!!!

Because of deleted e-mails (and failure in healthcare, jobs and eduction) the Governor of Missouri is so unpopular he won't run again. Republicans from across Missouri are soon to be replaced as the next round of elections approach . . . Strangely, the only thing they've been consistent on (other than hatred against Mexicans) is their willful opposition to technology.

The latest example: Congressman Kenny Hulshof (R) of Missouri has introduced the Megan Meier Act which would allow prosecutors to go after online messages meant “to coerce, intimidate, harass or cause emotional distress” to others. Those convicted under the measure would face a fine or up to two years in jail.

This bit of pandering because of a tragic suicide not only misunderstands the nature of the 1st Amendment but makes it clear that the Missouri GOP still has a hard time grasping the fact that the Internet shouldn't be misconstrued as the root of all evil. Also, reportedly Constitutional Lawyers think this legislation is a joke.

    Old man Wheeler loves Democracy!!!

Charlie Wheeler, 81, the former Kansas City mayor and state senator, will be on the August ballot for state treasurer after all.

TKC can't help but admire the guy and I'll be voting for him simply because I remember that we took the remote control away from my Grandfather when he was that age and I'm trying to make amens.

    Kansas City Bloggers are gassy

Lots of concern in the local blogosphere over gas prices . . . Considering that the days of gas under 4 bucks a gallon are going to be knows as the "Good Times" I everyone reading blogs should grow accustomed to more posts related to gas (and bankruptcy):

RDM highlights racist readers and their many comments on The Star's webpage

This is probably one of the best efforts when it comes to media watching attempts I've seen in the metro. The Star has consistently proven to be a forum for racist comments and their policy toward deleting them has been haphazard at best . . . RDM documenting the vitriol is very impressive.

    New Blog: KC Insider

A great starting effort . . . Look for more from this local blogger.

I don't understand, I post more infrequently and I get more hits. That doesn't make sense but then again neither does The Star moving a good portion of their business to India or the fact that the more efforts put into illegal immigration I see in the media equals even more mojados in my neighborhood . . . Not that I mind either way, but damn.

So, since a lot of you d-bags are still showing up to this dump, I guess we'll all have to learn to live with a bit of cognitive dissonance and maybe all the d-bags who cut and paste their link compilations from TKC might have to show some creativity of their own every now and again. In the meantime, it's been nice to put some effort into other aspects of my life like video games and my business (lawn mowing). More later . . . Maybe.

TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! Latest Mammy-Gate Rumor: Firing arranged by Gloria Squitiro might not have been legal!!!

The folks at City Hall are still talking up a storm over the firing of Ruth Bates and the details keep pouring in . . . What TKC is hearing most often is a lot of frustration over how the firing went down.

AMONG CITY HALL STAFFERS THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT GLORIA SQUITIRO ARRANGED THE FIRING OF RUTH BATES!!! NATURALLY, THIS HAS ALL OF THEM ALARMED GIVEN THAT AN UNPAID, VOLUNTEER CAN HAVE THEIR JOBS TERMINATED!!!

Numerous reports from a few City Hall folks witnessed Squitiro on the phone discussing the firing and timing it with a trip out of town for Co-Mayors Funkhouser and Squitiro. Actually, I thought the move was pretty cowardly as well . . . For all of Mayor Funky's talk of "principles" Bates was fired under his watch using one of the most cowardly methods most people at City Hall had ever seen. The firing wasn't leadership under pressure but the actions of someone scared and eager to get out of the City to avoid further controversy.

Finally, there's more reports of yet another impending legal snafu for the Co-Mayors. More than one City Hall insider reports THAT THE FIRING OF THE VICTIM OF THE MAMMY SLUR WAS NOT SANCTIONED BY THE CITY'S LEGAL DEPARTMENT!!! Squitiro's order was allegedly carried out but not approved by anybody else at City Hall but the Mayor . . . Talk of this misuse of power is all the rage among people who didn't agree with actions taken by the Co-Mayors.

    Developing . . .

KANSAS CITY STAR CAUGHT PHOTOSHOPPING NEWS, OBSCURING LOGO OF THE COMPETITION!!!

Landsberg over at Bottomline Communications caught The Star playing games with the news recently.

It's pretty clear cut: The Star took something they didn't like out of a photo featured in their news. TKC has consistently been given a hard time by journalists who can't believe that I don't give a damn about this blog's credibility but I've always contended that the inherent bias, bad taste and lazy reporting that appears on this site is just a reflection of the state of journalism in Kansas City overall . . . Only with more photos of scantily clad white women.

Anyhoo, since David Cook is the most interesting thing ever to happen to Kansas City that means that this evidence of journalistic fraud is tantamount to the most heinous acts undertaken by media moguls during the Spanish American War.

Finally, it's just a really big leap of faith to believe that the practice of manipulating the news to fit The Star's corporate agenda doesn't happen in other aspects of their reporting as well. Bottom line: Big media will lie just as badly as bloggers and only the lack of self-esteem and leadership on behalf of the public makes their falsehoods more believable.

    Kansas City Car (Ripoff) Talk

TKC loves Kansas City Internets activism and the guys from KC Talk are putting together the "mother of all bitch sessions" this Friday related to the story that THEY FIRST REPORTED about Chad Franklin and a lot of alleged misdeeds.

    Check it:
KANSAS CITY, MO - Members of the Press are cordially invited to a panel discussion concerning alleged misdealings of Legend Suzuki (formally Chad Franklin Suzuki) presented by KCTalk.com. This will be a moderated discussion with a speaker panel and alleged 'victims' of the advertised Suzuki programs. The goal of the event is to have a 'meeting of the minds' with the members of KCTalk that have been participating in an online discussion concerning Chad Franklin Suzuki's questionable advertising and business practices along with provide legal insight for those who may want to participate in a class action lawsuit. Lawyer Michael K. Whitehead will be a guest speaker amongst others that may want to talk, possibly including a representative of Legend Suzuki. People who have had negative sales experiences with Chad Franklin have been coalescing here at KCTalk.com and have generated a discussion of over 67,000 views. Over 120 members have registered for the event with more and more confirming each day. This will be the first face to face meeting of these members.
Here is the where and when:

    Where:
    The Villa
    4120 Baltimore
    Kansas City, MO 64111

    When:
    Friday, May 23rd
    7:30pm until 9:30pm

Even better, the background on the story provided by KC Talk provides a lot of proof about how they reported this story before it was picked up by local mainstream media.
The story originated from a simple post on KCTalk.com questioning the validity of the popular $49/month car advertisements. This gave way for a swarm of unhappy customers to come together and share their story of deceitful advertising mixed with broken promises and flat out lies. KCTalk has received over 2,000 posts concerning Chad Franklin Suzuki. The ads also have been the subject to three highly rated sweeps pieces by investigative reporter Jenn Strathman from NBC Action News' Call for Action department.

The Greatest Night in Kansas City History!!!

David Cook Wins!!! I still don't care.

A lot of folks in this town are really happy for him . . . I'm not one of them.

Gas prices are still the same, this momentous occasion hasn't stopped one metro homicide and the local economy is quietly tanking so you'll excuse me if I don't celebrate the mediocre career of Taylor Hicks or whoever.

    Blue Tide Rising in Missouri

Democrats are celebrating in the Show Me State. Here's why: A recent poll suggests an impending major Republican embarrassment in the race for Governor:
Today, Nixon, Missouri's Attorney General, defeats Republican Congressman Kenny Hulshof 57% to 33%; Nixon defeats Republican State Treasurer Sarah Steelman 58% to 33%. Against both, Nixon carries all regions of the state and all demographic groups. Against Hulshof, 18% of Republicans cross over to vote for Nixon; against Steelman, 25% of Republicans cross over.
Yeah, I assumed it was going to be that one-sided and I wonder why they even bother running expensive ads to compete . . . Even worse, the rhetoric coming from the Nixon's opposition is getting crazier in a silly attempt to "rally the base" which now mostly consists of a few backwoods people that will vote whatever way Rush Limbaugh decides.

Even worse, here's the requisite plea not to believe it coming from the only blog in the State that seems to love Sarah Steelman . . . While I agree that Survey USA is kinda screwed, just about every other poll and reasonable person in the State also seems to know that Nixon is going to win as well and Republican arguements are always more effective when they don't rely on people ignoring reality.

The Missouri Supreme Court voted 7-0 to deny Michael Taylor’s bid to re-open his previously ruled on post-conviction appeal. Taylor's trials have been full of a great many legal missteps which don't seem to bother a lot of local folks looking to take revenge.

King of all handouts in Kansas City

Throwing away more than $172 million in 2006, the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation is ranked No. 1 in giving among the nation's community foundations . . . TKC's grant proposal for about 3 fiddy still pending.

TKC morning links up to bat: Sticky Edition

Here are some local links I've had stuck in my craw (ew) or wherever:

  • Local success story is sticky, filmy and dank: Sunlight Saunas is named as KC's top small business

  • This headline about dust allergies from Fox4 makes me smile and also makes any concerns I had about my "professionalism" seem unimportant . . . Home Sick: Ew, Gross. Are You Breathing Poop?

  • Your cheap Wal-Mart toaster made by children is safe: KC gets $1.6M for port security

  • Local delis can eat it: Lenny's Sub Shop chain eyes KC for expansion

  • Speed Racers prove to be a disaster in KC as well: 5 Teens Hurt In Car Collision At Swope Park

  • Everything turned out okay (kinda) for crazy Cass County guy involved in a standoff last night
. A KC standoff ended amicably a well.

  • Things turn out "Ford Tough" for a local robbery suspect fleeing police: A Mustang hit a Kansas City police car Tuesday.

  • It could have been worse: Woman Bit Off Hubby's Fingertip
  • More false hope for Ivanhoe (heh)

Kansas City's Rental Inspection Program gets mixed reviews but residents in Ivanhoe believe this will make their neighborhood resemble Ward Parkway . . . And not just in the delusions of crack addicts either!!!

Another local guide: Places to avoid in Kansas City, other than the Eastside

MoDOT put together a list of the state's top 10 work zones to look out for, based on volume of traffic, amount of work and level of delay. Kansas City has three projects in the top 10. They include:

  • Interstate 29/35 from Route 210/Armour Road to the northeast corner of the downtown.

  • I-70 Bridge over Manchester Trafficway.

  • Route 71 -- Resurfacing of mainline and outer roads from Blue Ridge Boulevard in Grandview to 155th Street in Belton.

All things considered, you'd be better off living Downtown in a luxury condo and walking to work at your high six-figure job . . . But you already knew that.
  • Kansas City Special Delivery: Bullets!!!

In Kansas City, apparently the Postal Service Creed includes dodging bullets.
Police said a mailman had to duck for cover in his mail truck as two groups of men shot at each other.
On the bright side, this could mean that e-mail saves lives.

If we work together, we can keep on building mediocre cars!!!

Tentative Deal Reached To Settle GM Strike in KCK . . . TKC supports Unions. Chevy Malibus, not so much.

    Wyandotte County's Youngest Alleged Killer

Even worse, there's a move to have the child tried as an adult.

KC 7-11 clerk: "Do you feel lucky punk?!"

According to Crime Scene KC: A Kansas City convenience store clerk fired at two gunmen who robbed the business Monday night.

Last night the hopes and dreams of Kansas City were crushed by a Latino kid!!!

I don't watch American Idol, but Jay Bird does and he reports that Kansas City's David Cook choked . . . Which is kind of typical of anybody from metro area. Sorry. Here's an even better line from General Blather: "If I hear the name David Cook mentioned one more time, I'll barf. Really. He looks like he combed his hair with a pork chop." Sadly, in order to be "fair and balanced" I should link an eloquent post by Shane which lists reasons to vote for David Cook other than guilt. And, trooper that she is, Dee over at CWH offers the David Cook Roundup.

The Sunflower State is not purple

Not so surprising analysis from Stay Red Kansas . . . Obama still loses to McCain in most polls.

    Forgetting this town's history

BlogKC recently published a list of historic sites in Kansas City that are being neglected as if they were older relatives . . . However, in this case the neglect is due to incompetence rather than repressed memories or just plain old spite.

TKC and a lot of love

Recent photos of Reese Witherspoon overflowing out of a bikini remind me that I need to post more . . . I've been busy doing a bit of behind the scenes work on the blog but I realize you d-bags can't see that . . . Putting up more posts as we speak. Please excuse my indifference, thank you for your patience.

    Now let's look at some links . . .

The City Council needs to respond to Mammy-Gate!!! Gloria must go before she causes more damage to Kansas City!!!

There is no question that Co-Mayors Funkhouser and Squitiro are ruling over City Hall like King and Queen. The recent firing of Ruth Bates (the victim of the "Mammy" slur by the Mayor's wife) is simply the most recent example of their arrogance, vindictiveness and stubborness when it comes their mostly wrongheaded decision making process. Even the Mayor's closest supporters have said time and again that he and his wife have become insulated and no longer reach out to former friends for advice. The cowardly firing of Bates, WHILE THE CO-MAYORS WERE OUT OF TOWN, seems like the poor decision of an scared couple on the run rather than leadership in the face of controversy.

Sadly, strangely every dumb joke I've written about the Mayor now has a even more merit given the lack of character and unqualified support he has shown for his unpaid, volunteer, and foul mouthed wife. The excuse the Mayor initially used for the slur was equally awkward and lacking of any kind of merit:

Let's not forget that Funkhouser explained on KMBZ that his wife regularly used nicknames for employees and added an "e" to the end of their names. THIS "MAM-EE" EXCUSE IS SO LAME, SO SLAPDASH AND RIDICULOUS THAT IT NOT ONLY GIVES CREDENCE TO THE CLAIMS MADE BY BATES BUT ALSO REVEALS KANSAS CITY'S MAYOR TO BE HOPELESSLY OUT OF TOUCH WITH HIS MINORITY CONSTITUENTS AND REALITY!!!

Even worse, the Mayor has been going around town basically calling Bates a liar. He has been using the office of Mayor to quash a legitimate complaint against his unpaid, volunteer wife who doesn't belong within 10 feet of City Hall. Mayor Funky has also recruited columnists and conservative talk radio scumbags from sinking stations to support his position. Still, one question remains:

DOES ANYBODY BUT BILL DRUMMOND, THE GLASS ETCHER GUY, BELIEVE THAT THE MAYOR'S ACTIONS CONCERNING BATES AND HIS SHOELESS WIFE IN CITY HALL ARE APPROPRIATE?

I don't wanna talk crap on Drummond because he's basically a nice guy and the kind of crazy civic activist that makes Kansas City so hilarious but he has his own problems in the Crossroads that probably should concern him more than online debates regarding Mayor Funky; besides I don't think a white dude who tirelessly advocates for a luxury living space really brings that much to the table in a discussion of Kansas City's divisive racial politics.

And speaking of the sordid subject of racial disparity in Kansas City . . . Let's not forget that Mayor Funky is once again relying on bigots from around the metro to back his cause.

Sadly, these racists don't know that the move to switch Bates to the Water Department (literally throwing her down the well) was out of line and probably an abuse of power in and of itself. A line from the Mayor's press release regarding the subject also gives a bit of perspective on the employment of Bates:
"All positions in the mayor's office are political appointments in the city's unclassified system and mayoral staffers serve at the pleasure of the mayor,"
Therefore, a lateral move to the Water Department would have been inappropriate for political appointment and it's just another sign that the Funkhouser's have no problem abusing power to try and save their neck. More importantly, "serving at the pleasure of the Mayor" is not a justification for racial slurs to be thrown around the Mayor's office in Kansas City. Let's make this simple:

EVERYONE EARNING A PAYCHECK HAS THE RIGHT TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITHOUT FEAR OF REPRISAL OR RETRIBUTION! MAYOR FUNKY'S RETALIATION AGAINST BATES CLEARLY INDICATES HE HAS ABSOLUTELY NO RESPECT FOR THE PEOPLE WORKING AT CITY HALL!!!

Obviously, the Mayor Funky's few remaining loyalists will be out goose stepping across town to prove their loyalty to the Co-Mayors but their propaganda is uninspiring and out of mainstream political thought in Kansas City.

THERE IS NO ONE WITH ANY CREDIBILITY IN KANSAS CITY WHO WILL DEFEND MAYOR FUNKY'S MISHANDLING OF THIS CASE OR THE USE OF THE RACIAL SLUR BY GLORIA SQUITIRO!!!.

It is a clear cut case of retaliation, nothing more. TKC reported on the ongoing attacks against Bates last week but I honestly didn't think it was this bad. With this action, Mayor Funky has lost any hopes of credibility within the minority community for the remainder of his first term. This example of how poorly Mayor Funky treats minorities in his own house is indicative of his lack of sensitivity and skill when it comes to his overall grasp (or lack thereof) of community relations in this diverse city.

Finally, Internet denizens are on the top of their game when they ask an important question which Mayor Funky and the mainstream media have overlooked:

WILL KANSAS CITY BE FORCED TO PAY FOR THE DEFENSE OF GLORIA SQUITIRO (A VOLUNTEER) IN THE INEVITABLE AND JUSTIFIABLE LAWSUIT AGAINST THE MAYOR'S OFFICE?!!!

Squitiro's presence is unsanctioned and has been the source of ridicule on my part since last year given the woman's penchant to go barefoot in Kansas City's highest office . . . When it eventually gets out, this case will once again demonstrate that Squitiro doesn't belong at City Hall despite the Mayor's stubborn insistence. Squitiro has singlehandedly destroyed the Mayor's once promising career as all women seem to do to their husbands. However, the fact that she should be costing Kansas City with her repeated attacks against African-American females is unacceptable. In both the "Mammy-Gate" mess and another instance where she referred to another African-American employee as "Bernie Mac" her unprofessional, rude and intolerant behavior has damaged her husband's and (more importantly) this town's reputation.

CURRENTLY, THE MAYOR'S OFFICE IS WITHOUT ANY REPRESENTATION OF THE BLACK COMMUNITY AND THE REMAINING MINORITY WORKER IS MERELY A RECENT COLLEGE GRADUATE WHO IS NOW THE LOWEST PAID STAFFER IN MAYOR FUNKY'S CAMP . . . The pattern of discrimination, contempt and lack of consideration for Kansas City's people of color is now clear.

I don't know how this mess will play out but it's not going to be pretty. In the end, most reasonable people understand that GLORIA SQUITIRO MUST GET OUT OF CITY HALL and concerns over the actions of this out of control woman are going not only going to lead to a financial setback for Kansas City but also damage our reputation when this becomes yet another racially divisive issue that embroils the metro area.

To avoid this conflict TKC and people who don't live in their mom's basement are begging the City Council to pass some kind of resolution or ordinance (whatever works) to end Gloria Squitiro's reign of terror. Squitiro's actions have led to a potentially costly lawsuit soon to be filed against Kansas City and with no clear definition of her role in the Mayor's office, future actions against this town are inevitable from the Mayor's foul mouthed spouse who apparently can't get along with African-American females. There needs to be some documentation of where Squitiro stands, and for the good of Kansas City it's obvious that GLORIA MUST GO!!!

    Kansas City is creative!!!

I hate linking good news about Kansas City but I found a recent article encouraging: Fast Company Magazine ranks Kansas City among 12 cities worldwide it considers the best for innovation. Of course we know that the same people who were touting the dotcom bubble long after it burst couldn't possibly be wrong . . . However, I guess any recognition is nice.

Sure, there are a lot of innovative people in Kansas City but very few are as gully and creative as Scarlett Johansson shaving her legs in the kitchen sink in a recent issue of Italian GQ. Not even close.

    Coyote Ugly

My favorite blogger headline of the day comes from the Midtown Miscreant: "BREAKING NEWS...KILLER COYOTES EAT SPOILED PSUEDO RICH BROADS CAT ! AND FOX 4 IS ON THE CASE!"

    Morning Would

If I had my way, my mornings would be a lot less hectic. It's not that I'm too busy, a guy who lives in his mom's basement never is . . . However, I'd like to make more time to enjoy my Raisin Bran and my favorite celebrity bikini photos.

Other than ranting about the Mayor, that's the extent of my wisdom this morning.

Also . . . I'm really digging Twitter, so far it's my favorite web application (blogger included).

    FIRED!!!

Mayor Funky fired Ruth Bates - His wife, Gloria Squitiro called her Mammy.

This is the kind of Mayor that's now running Kansas City.

Never before has there been such a clear cut case of RETALIATION.

GLORIA SQUITIRO HAS NOW CHASED ALL OF THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN FEMALES OUT OF THE MAYOR'S OFFICE!!!

There was a chance that the Mayor could have beaten the EEOC complaint - Not anymore.

    Developing . . .

A TKC investigative look at local TV: ALLEGEDLY KSHB EMPLOYEES BEING PAID 30% less than other Kansas City stations after anti-Union vote!!!

The Internets is ablaze with a lot of speculation about a recent Union vote at one of the worst rated TV stations in the metro. Apparently the Union vote was close but supporters just couldn't get majority support . . . So for now, cameramen and other underlings will have to accept talk from management about how driving station-owned cars represents a benefit. (It doesn't)

How this effects Kansas City: Media people are probably the most unhappy contingent in Kansas City and their coverage shapes the way this town looks at itself . . . So actually, KC could see a benefit from pissed off reporters who definitely aren't getting paid enough to put on the happy news.

    BRAVEST BLOGGER IN KANSAS CITY!!!

She gets my vote . . . Rate her arm pit hair!!! That's right, I just wrote that and I never, ever thought I'd use that phrase running this blog. As far as confessionals go, I don't think ANYTHING could top the recent post concerning personal grooming habits by May's Machete this week.

Faith vs. Free Speech in Kansas City!!!

Over the weekend a group calling themselves the Interfaith Coalition Against Bigotry met at the University of Missouri-Kansas City; they prayed as well as put together petitions to protest the “hateful utterances” of national radio personality Michael Savage, whose talk show is carried locally by KCMO 710-AM.

I don't know how media savvy the group is but if they looked closely they might have seen that 710's ratings are in the toilet . . . So, naturally that helps the in their plight.

    But I don't know . . . Is this:

KANSAS CITY STANDING UP TO HATE RADIO!!!

Or are they really doing advertising for the guy at the struggling radio station?

I don't really want to debate the comments that Savage made about terrorists Muslims but I will note that corporate media outlets with crappy ratings have a lot less room to stand up to criticism.

As always, the real question isn't about morality, bigotry or the differing special interest groups that always try to flex their muscle in the media . . . This time it's angry, old, white Seniors who are mostly confined to their homes vs. the last remaining local religious people who have much more political clout.

    Still . . .

IN THE END IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT EXPEDIENCY.

So I could care less about the feelings of everyone involved but the issue of a not so insignificant contingent of religious folks in Kansas City against a local radio station that's clearly struggling to find a place and wouldn't be on the air without their nationally syndicated programs that are now under fire . . . That's a fight worth seeing.

However . . . As with most lame corporate broadcasts like Savage and the other 710 fare . . . Most people who take the time to pay attention come out losing.

    New Neighbors in the Northland!!!

    Homeless people migrate to Northland

TKC Fact: Suburban enclaves far away from minorities are generally voted "best" places to live in polls of mostly white people!!!

According the annual list by Relocate-America.com Olathe is the 33rd best place to live in the United States.

    Strap it on Kansas City!!!

The Click It or Ticket campaign starts TODAY and runs through July. The public awareness campaign accomplishes two important tasks: Encouraging drivers to buckle up AND reminding people of the many penalties that are put upon minorities when they are pulled over due to racial profiling.

Weekend link: Missouri Poll Tax put on hold

Missouri Legislature Ends Session With Voter ID Amendment Still on Agenda . . . Not so clever comic.

    Again, please fire Mary Sanchez!!!

The Star is cutting staff (and shipping jobs to India). However, if they're really interested in slimming down there's one broad in a smart business suit who contributes absolutely nothing to their paper. Mary Sanchez has few connections in the Latino Community, her writing is mostly worthless and her main function as window dressing is insulting. Somebody, anybody would be better than a columnist who only offers lame, middle-of-the-road opinions that don't really satisfy anyone and most cater to corporate management trying to seem objective.

TKC Links and Lace (no homo)

  • One more local group going under thanks to Mayor Funky: "The Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City's CEO said the city agency's budget confronts a "challenging year" after a nearly $300,000 financing cut from Kansas City."

  • I shouldn't have overlooked this one . . . Maybe my favorite headline ever from The Pitch last week: "A white woman wins a lawsuit after elected officials reveal that they're sensitive to racial diversity"

  • Tragic local wrong way wreck: Two men die in an accident in Kansas City, Kan.

  • Firefighter suffers injuries responding to house fire

  • Today's flower story from The Star . . . Spring is eternal when it comes to this town losing money.

  • A nice instance of the KCPD helping to crack heads for a good cause: Jazz and Boxing bring community together

  • Things always work better when the locals start snitching: "Police say they have a carjacking suspect in custody thanks to some witnesses who stepped in to help a Northland woman."

  • A very soggy and sad suburban story and one more reason why TKC won't go on a boat besides the last scene in Godfather II: Overland Park man drowns trying to save grandchild

  • Hey everybody, Mike Hendricks is FINALLY writing about his own neighborhood and using some observations that were made in the blogosphere last week!!!

  • Just for kicks, here are some photos of Joanna Krupa in magazines and (more importantly) in her underwear.
  • The Tragic Weekend Free Fall

Westwood Teen Falls from Tower, Dies . . . This was going to be the subject of the weekend playlist but I thought better of it, realized that falling for a high spot actually scares the crap out of me and understood that I have already have enough reasons why I'm going to Hell. In any event, thinking about it . . . It's a horrible way to go, and I can't argue with many of the points that RDM already made about this case.

One Year Later: An unpleasant reminder that innocent white people also get caught up and killed in Kansas City violence!!!

The Family of Chris Bartholomew Calls For Justice On Anniversary Of Westport Murder . . . A fact that mostly goes unmentioned by The Mayor and most bigoted bloggers: We're all living in the same City and stray bullets are a lot less discriminating than the people in this town.

    QUIT YOUR BLOG!!!

Normally, I like to encourage almost everyone with their blogging (excluding, of course: cyclists, hipsters, any mom who isn't slightly hot and affluent, white guys) HOWEVER . . . Jeff Roe's blog hit one of the most hackneyed, hilarious and stupid notes I've ever seen on a political blog in more than two years with his divisive attempt to try and bring the gay marriage issue to Missouri . . . Honestly, this is what's passing for Republican strategy in the Show Me State? This kind of thing actually makes me sad for Republicans, they deserve better than telegraphed punches that can be seen from miles away and don't even to apply to life in the Midwest . . . The dude could be using his blog to aggregate conservative thought from across the area or highlighting some of the real areas where Democrats are vulnerable but instead he's using hackneyed tricks that aren't even worthy of Sean Hannity . . . It's unsettling and probably one of the many reasons why Republicans are set to lose so many elections in Missouri as time goes on. Also, there's no photos of bikini clad broads to make hack jokes seem more entertaining . . . Obviously a tactic TKC has pioneered.

Look for Venkman at Kemper, Kick his ass!!!

KIDDING!!! Still, the Big Dumb Fun Show host will be at WWE: Monday Night Raw! which is in Kansas City this evening because this town has many rich, cultural attractions.

    Kansas City blogger saves lives!!!

    Here's the way it works:

Most male bloggers write about their opinions as if someone cared.

Most female bloggers write about how hard their privileged lives are as if someone cared.

On the other hand extraordinary bloggers like Erin go out and live their lives and makes a difference in the world while bringing back candid photos of drunk people they openly mock . . . Erin is why Kansas City blogging kicks ass!!!

And yes, Erin is a white woman so naturally I'm an admirer while most white dudes working for some charitable cause would only merit my scorn and ridicule.

That is the way the world works.

    Natch.

Still, the "crawl for cancer" looks like a great benefit with at least 75% less self-righteousness than most other local crusades.

    Read blogs, get jobs

From the man who solved the case: "It's taking longer than R.Kelly's court date."

There's no doubt that Alonzo Washington solved the case of Precious Doe (even if so many don't want to give him credit for his actions). . . Now he's doing follow-up work and watching how the trial plays out, read his latest blog post to discover that he's not really happy with what he has seen so far.

Of all the Kansas City Blogger Radiohead reviews, this one is my favorite

Pensive Girl documents here Radiohead experience with a KICKASS PHOTO ESSAY!!! As for mid-level bands who had their best years (made more money) in the late 90's, the info was cool as well along with a realization that even trendy, mediocre acts are skipping over Kansas City so that the Sprint Center can cater to the geriatric set and otherwise stay empty.

    Back from a busy weekend

As I mentioned previously, I was much too busy this weekend to mess with you d-bags but now the workweek is here and the only thing I have to do is spew crap about the Mayor and contemplate the fat ass of Britney Spears. I'm blessed, I know.

Anyhoo . . . I as "retooling" (heh) this page and I noticed that I forgot to include a listing on my post about local news resources . . . It turns out I stupidly omitted a rather popular KC Internet site (much or so than this dump) . . . Here's a webpage TKC readers should be checking out daily:

POPFREE RADIO: THE ONLY SOURCE FOR MUSIC NEWS IN KANSAS CITY!!!

Welcome to the week . . . I think it's known as the time when KC fatties start to sweat.

    Saturday, May 17, 2008

The overall consensus when it comes to new digs at City Hall: "Pig at the trough"

I'm not surprised at the $2.1 million dollar renovation for the City Council that includes big screen TVs and very pricey chairs . . . However, what does surprise me is the unanimous disgust that comes from people in Kansas City. I'm proud of you!!! A recent article which reports the opulent remodeling has a nice comment section where the word "pigs" comes up at least half a dozen times. Schweet.

    Conflicted Kansas Politico

The Kansas City Blue Blog brilliantly summarizes the latest turmoil in which Phill Kline finds himself embroiled . . . Keywords: Christian, Crazy and "did anybody do an address check or is he still pretending to live in a one bedroom apartment in a trailer park or whatever???"

More evidence: Funkhouser forgets about Infrastructure and Neighborhoods while preparing to fail on a completely new front

A direct quote from the embarrassing weekly newsletter of the Co-Mayor: "Light rail, light rail, light rail. This is what the office has been living and breathing this month, as it is getting down to the wire to have something ready to put on the ballot by August for the November election." Strangely, she forgets to mention that Kansas City didn't elect Mayor Funky to pursue more vanity projects . . . Meanwhile, there hasn't been much tangible work on KC's Infrastructure and not a word about crime i.e. not a day goes buy when there isn't more failure on Mayor Funky's part.

    45

Alonzo Washington counts 45 metro area murders . . . While most politicos in KC stay silent. See the carnage for yourself on the new Kansas City area homicide map put together by Crime Scene KC.

All Kansas City bloggers who fail to mention Dr. Hook are booty and worthless!!!

I have to say that I've been disenchanted with Kansas City blogs as of late . . . "There Stands the Glass" is the notable exception, the dude manages to write about a topic other than himself and makes it interesting . . . Also, his collection of music along with Kansas City references is superb . . . Time for everyone (including me) to step their game up.

    The Road Trip Edition

Not that I really give a crap about any of the d-bags who read his blog but I thought I'd fill a few of you in on "the sitch" for this weekend. I'm actually not in Kansas City right now.

That's right, Daddy is on a road trip that required me to leave the basement and may lead to a bit more cash dedicated to this hell hole of a blog. My various wheelings and dealings also might require to me make somewhat of an effort with my life . . . Naturally I'm thinking about taking a pass on anything that requires actual work.

Still, these are exciting times for/at TKC and in even better news, I had to swing through a college town to see my broham graduate (more on that later) . . . Anyhoo, I just wanted to stop by this dump to inform my favorite collection of douches that I hadn't forgotten about you . . . But I'm trying.

TKC Exclusive!!! Mayor Funky's concern was fake!!! Failure to protect and clean up Kansas City Neighborhoods continues!!!

During the election Mayor Funkhouser promoted something called "the Broken Windows theory," a concept which contends that fixing small cosmetic problems within a community is an important step in improving the overall esteem for a neighborhood and subsequently encourages home owners to help improve their streets and conditions overall. Never mind that there are some serious problems with that theory pointed out by smarter people who didn't get their doctorate from a City College . . . The point is, it was a nice notion that was well received by a great many Kansas City voters who wanted a Mayor who cared about "regular folks" and the problems in their community rather than high rolling developers and expensive vanity projects.

One year later, the very same problems that Mayor Funkhouser promised to address are lingering in continually neglected Kansas City Neighborhoods.

Thanks to the work of A TIRELESS COMMUNITY ACTIVIST TKC IS PROUD TO PRESENT A SPECIFIC EXAMPLE OF THE ONGOING NEGLECT OF KANSAS CITY'S NEIGHBORHOODS AND SCHOOLS THAT CONTINUES DURING THE ADMINISTRATION OF MAYOR FUNKHOUSER!!!

A shameful example of Mayor Funky's broken promises is the si
