Maybe we can all move on: Mayor Funky wants to make up with the Mexicans

Despite the will of suburbanites on the edge of town, Mayor Funky is working to improve his relationship with the Latino Community in Kansas City.

First of all, while he gave up on the idea of a one person Office of Immigrant Affairs he's now looking to form an Immigration Task Force comprised of the same white women who led a march against the Minutemen, only this time they'll be working for free rather than his first pricey idea.

Additionally, according to a bunch of very proud lower tier leaders the "Latino Leadership Meetings" are once again scheduled . . . Only this time, rumor has it, there won't be an invitation to the likes of Cris Medina or anybody who ever voiced their opposition to the guy.

Essentially, this is a good move . . . The more representation for Latinos at City Hall, the better. Still, this piecemeal attempt to heal old wounds probably won't help among the political elite and the sad fact is that the "regular folks" with whom Funkhouser is more comfortable with in the Latino community don't have the ability to organize voters or wield much influence . . . Additionally, history has shown that Latinos who side with Funkhouser end up being insulted and betrayed by the Administration.

Still, hope spring eternal and I think that an attempt at reconciliation is the right thing . . . In fact, as Kansas City's most important Latino I think I should get an invite to these meetings in order to offer my concerns . . . TKC is most likely the only person brave enough to offer an unbiased view of local Latinos, ignore the silly effort to try and divide the Westport/Westside Latinos from those in Northeast and even tell Ms. Squitiro to put on some shoes.
