In the wave of reactionary support for Minute-lady Frances Semler one thing was left out of the discussion of her bitter and spiteful resignation letter.
Semler made indictments against the National Council of La Raza and then goes on to write the following about a fellow board member:
John Fierro, President of the Kansas City Park Board, has been connected with this same group. This Coalition is associated with La Raza, led by Janet Murguia, who was pictured on the front page of the Kansas City Star with fist raised. Are these paid positions and are our tax monies involved? Not only is her stab at Fierro unwarranted but it also ignores a simple fact.
JOHN FIERRO SPOKE UP FOR FRANCES SEMLER AND HER APPOINTMENT DURING THE INITIAL PHASE OF THE CONTROVERSY!!!
In return for going out on a limb for this woman, taking the opposite side from longtime friends and associates and supporting her silly claims of "Freedom of Speech" and "Freedom of Association" all he got for it was a public rebuke.
Initially, a press conference was held to decry Semler's appointment by many Latino, Christian, Civil Rights and Union leaders . . . On that same day Fierro stood by the Mayor and clearly stated that he did not object to the appointment and that "he could work with her."
He gave her the benefit of the doubt and in return all he received was a kick in the teeth.
Sad but true:
No matter what side of the immigration issue Latinos stand, they are destined to lose at the hands of groups like the Minutemen who make this topic a incendiary wedge issue.
If anyone should feel "betrayed" by this controversy it's not Frances Semler, who had her day in the sun, the Minutemen who were backed by the Mayor or even Latino leaders who gained unity and noteriety from the debacle . . . In the end it was only John Fierro who was stabbed in the back.
Even TKC was guilty of giving the guy a bit of a hard time. And while I won't apologize because I think it's kind of funny. However, Frances Semler should definitely retract her vicious statement against a former colleague and try showing a little class.
Nice Post Tony. I don't think anybody else in the metro remembered this but your blog.
ReplyDeletesee what happens when you help a old racist white woman...
ReplyDeleteWhy did you edit the paragraph? I can understand why you might want to leave your momma's name out of it but the truth is you both have bitten off more than you can chew.
ReplyDeleteThere will come a day when both your names will be considered dirty words..and rightfully so. It's already happening if you havent noticed. You both are legends only in your own minds. Everyone else would just as soon see you go away. People are seeing the light. Yes, the sqeeky wheels do get the oil. You havent seen nothin yet.
"The controversy regarding my membership in MCDC was fueled by Kansas City Star reporters and the President of the Coalition of Hispanic Organizations, Rita Valenciano. John Fierro, President of the Kansas City Park Board, has been connected with this same group. This Coalition is associated with La Raza, led by Janet Murguia, who was pictured on the front page of the Kansas City Star with fist raised. Are these paid positions and are our tax monies involved? Reverend Charles Steele Jr., President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, has threatened to “shut” the city down. It has been my experience that many of those supporting illegals are immigration lawyers, also paid with taxpayer funds."
The people she insults:
ReplyDeleteJohn Fierro (head of her own board)
Rita Valenciano
the SCLC
La Raza
Janet Murguia
Kansas City PD James Chief Corwin
The Mayor and his wife
I support tougher immigration laws. I support her right to belong to any group she wants and I still support Mayor Funkhouser even though I think Tony is funny. But the letter was obviously written by a woman who was very angry and frustrated. The letter made her look crazy and like she has an ax to grind. Frankly I think Kansas City is better off without her belonging to any board.
Goodbye Frances. I hope you find peace in your new work.
Dear 11:13 poster,
ReplyDeleteWhat's "sqeeky"?
Exactly thank you Tony!!! This is so classic racist bigot. While you are on your way out for being a dumbass you act more like a dumbass and take jabs at every minority in sight including the ones that defended you. What a freaking idiot! She can go f herself with a burning cross as far as im concerned.
ReplyDeleteThat letter was some mean stuff. I think Mayor Funkhouser is relieved.
ReplyDeleteYou people are all idiots. Yes, John Fierro said he could work with Frances and then did just the opposite. She was not allowed to voice her opinion and felt she shut out. No one would continue to work under those circumstances. The next should go is John Fierro since he is associated with anti-American group La Raza. They are the haters of all that is legal in this country. They continue to support illegal aliens coming to this country and breaking American laws.
ReplyDeleteAnd how was anyone helping an old racist women. Not one person on that board stood up for Frances. It's fine for other board members to belong to their misfit organizations. But pick on an old lady because she stands for everthing that is good about this country. Your all are a bunch of whinning idiots.
John Fierro is a class act and has the city's best interests in mind. I know him well and he is what City Council members should be: an experienced workaholic championing those that need the most help.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ray. He's a good guy. Semler said that it was the mayor that wouldn't let her go to the Minuteman conference and say all the things she wanted.
ReplyDeleteSorry buddy but you need to put the blame where it belongs.
Not all christians. I'm a christian and I think Semler should of stayed on the Park board and the people who didn't like it needed to get over it.
ReplyDeleteMore people have suffered worse than what happened with the ego's of Tonys friends.
