Kendall’s Independent Play: Conning Democrats in Platte County
Platte County just can't seem to let Jackson County be the only one hogging ineptitude news.
I wouldn't waste my time, but I feel that you all should realize just how embarrassing and amateur politics can be on the nicer side of the bridge. It needs to be mocked at what a bunch of clowns run the state's fastest growing county.
With the election one week away, Democrats are falling for a MAGA opportunist in the Platte County Treasurer race. Appointed incumbent Christopher Kendall —conservative pastor of a small rural church—knew he couldn’t win the August 2026 Republican primary.
Why? Just two months into the job after his appointment, he voted himself a roughly 30% pay raise. There's one thing both Democrats and Republicans agree on and that's politicians lining their own pockets is an automatic toss the bums out situation.
That self-dealing optics would have been toxic with Republican primary voters and so Kendall, being the opportunist he is, needed to figure out how to keep his job and its new lavish 30% pay raise.
How? Disguise himself and run as an independent. It's actually pretty brilliant given how Democrats not paying attention will vote for anyone that doesn't have an R behind their name.
What Northland Democrats don't know is that he’s more conservative than his opponent Krysten Jury. It's why he’s packaging himself as a non-partisan alternative to peel Democratic and moderate votes while dodging the primary fight he was almost certain to lose.
It’s a calculated con.
Democrats could still beat Jury in 2028 with a credible candidate focused on competence, fiscal restraint, and clean government. Instead, they’re enabling Kendall’s maneuver.
If he wins or even runs strongly in 2026, he gains the power of incumbency, name recognition, and a ready-made record. In 2028 he can simply flip back to the Republican Party, which will likely absorb a proven vote-getter rather than fight another internal war.
By treating Kendall’s independent bid as useful disruption, Democrats risk manufacturing a stronger, more entrenched conservative Republican incumbent instead of defeating one. I can't believe they are falling for this trap.
