Obama lies in retrospect

Watching the 60 minutes interview with President Obama I slowly realized that it was nothing more than a tea party debate that American pop culture loves to engage in . . . Obama vs. Cheney in a meaningless squabble that doesn't have any regard for the actual policy taking place. And isn't even as interesting as recent photos of Eliza Dushku in Maxim.

At this point, there's very little difference between Obama or Cheney in terms of policy.

Here's a quick review:

Obama promised to close Bush era prison camps in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He did, but Obama's Guantanamo is now in Afghanistan and it's bigger while U.S. policy on torture still isn't much different than the Bush era despite some cute speeches.

For all his hope and change talk while bashing Bush policies on terrorism. Obama has preserved the right of the U.S. to use "renditions" i.e. kidnapping as a part of the War of Terror.

Finally, Obama doubling down in Afghanistan can't really be the kind of hope for change that so-called progressives have touted. I'm no military expert but I'm not exactly sure how increased efforts in a war with poor, brown people are going to increase esteem for this nation around the world . . . Also, I'm still kinda nervous that Obama's war efforts are taking place in a country also known as "The Graveyard of Empires."

Nevertheless . . . We're early in Obama's presidency so I guess it's too early to call him a failure just yet . . . However, ongoing economic turmoil and Obama insulting Special Olympics competitors aren't going to help his approval rating. And blaming Bush for everything can only work for so long.
