KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY JAMES SUFFERS TWITTER DISS FROM DRAKE AMID LAST 'ROCK THE BLOCK' CELEBRATION!!!

Credit to TKC readers for pointing out just a bit of social media shame at the conclusion of Mayor Sly's signature event.

Mayor Sly's final "Rock The Block" party took place this weekend with very little fanfare or notice from the public.

Thanks to our AWESOME TKC BLOG COMMUNITY, local news was forced into reporting the MASSIVE BRAWLS and empty promises of the effort aimed at curbing urban teen violence. Even better quite a few locals noted the strange contradiction of the last pizza party: Working to thwart evening entertainment district violence in the middle of the day.

It gets even better . . .

Mayor Sly sent a desperate plea tweet to Drake who is in town for a concert tonight.

DRAKE IGNORED MAYOR SLY AND DIDN'T RESPOND TO THE CRINGE-Y LAST MINUTE REQUEST FOR AN APPEARANCE!!!

So much for the power of social media "influence" and the celebrity of local politicos.

Sadly, the Mayor's event was the smallest gathering so far as the Kansas City homicide count now stands at 77 after more than two dozen shootings this month and calls to end local violence have also been largely ignored.

Developing . . .

  1. Don't think Drake was even in town yesterday. After his bus was hijacked in KC, he spotted at the airport.

The Sunday night show is a sign of total disrespect for KC and his fans here. Obviously doesn't think much about anybody in this town. Including the Mayor.

    1. can confirm the report about the smaller crowd. Not even 3 dozen at its height. However it was not a total failure. There as a lot of food and people got to take some home.

    2. Don't really understand this post. The Mayor was out there trying to help people and providing FREE entertainment for a lot of people. The crowd was much bigger than three dozen but what does it matter? This story should be about how the mayor is working to prevent violence in our community rather than just sitting by and doing nothing. Again, nitpicking progress and criticizing the mayor for doing his job is not productive.

    3. What you dont seem to understand is this is taxpayer money pissed down the drain just like the toy train so we wouldnt expect you to understand.

  2. Saw the very brief view of the Rock the Block extravaganza on TV. Wisely, they didn't focus on the crowd size. More bucks sucked out of the KCMO taxpayer for nothing. Congrats to the Mayor and friends.

  3. ^^^^^^^^^^ Damn dude, they make you work on Sunday too? That's a shame. Also really disappointing that you are endorsing an effort that everybody see was not productive. 8 years of this non sense and crime in KC is still bad and everyone is making excuse for the Sly and his inability to do anything to make things better.

  4. There are more parents trying to do things with there teenager on the weekend .and are they going to send there teenagers to a function that may get out of control. And then you have the teens that just want to run the streets .and cause trouble .If you want to stop the violence you have to teach your children well .

If the mayor is doing anything to prevent crime it is very little. Appears he spends most of his time handing money to developers. If you call 77 murders so far this year as progress you are delusional. Do not spew that the number is less than this time last year. Fact remains the murder rate is still higher than Chicago which has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation.

  15. If the person who goes by the handle of Go4KC is really a member of Sly James staff if I was Mayor James I'd be embarrassed by what that person says. But it has been proven many times that Sly James is never embarrassed about anything. He has never once gone public and called out those who run the streets killing and robbing as the thugs they are and how he is even embarrassed to share the same race with them or city for that matter. Oh yes he will speak out against a gun law this or ban that, but as it has been proven time and time again is that the gun is a tool which needs a human operator to function. What James won't talk about is his lack of demanding the current laws on the books being enforced. His so called Rock the Block parties have been plagued with acts of violence from the word go and that is the whole idea about the event in the first place which is to stop violence. What turns so many away and against this event is the fact that it is given to attract the elements of those who cause the greatest crime in Kansas City and the other majority of people in this town honestly want to stay away from that. No matter what, the event has been a huge failure from the beginning and is seen only as a chance to maybe grab some free food. So once again the taxpayers see their tax dollars being wasted on an event that isn't designed for all but only for a select few. A few hours event on only one day a year that is about fun isn't going to send any messages to anyone that violence is bad. This event is nothing but a huge PR event ordered by the Mayor to make the Mayor and only the Mayor look good for which it costs him not a penny one.

I have seen many pictures and videos from this event and the crowds in my opinion are small. It's a failure the same as James has been a failure in Kansas City in many ways. Creating buildings and caravel like transportation rides does not make a city great when those two endeavors are created to please those who don't live in Kansas City. Meanwhile the city is falling apart, crime is high and nothing and I mean nothing has been done to get a handle on it. The residents of Kansas City have two options, one is admit they enjoy living in a town that is rapidly becoming notorious for crime, corruption and poor leadership as Detroit was at one time and we all see how well that worked out for those residents. Or two, they can get out and vote and vote for those who will better Kansas City or vote them right back out as fast as they were voted in. Start demanding your local council members do the job the were voted in to do and make them and even harass them to make the campaign promises they made to get elected happen. Those elected to office work for nobody but you the taxpayer in the city as a whole in all areas of the city and it's time that was brought to their attention.

  16. I notice many comments made by those at the event that more free events like this should take place in Kansas City.

Look people it isn't the responsibility of the city/village to provide free entertainment for your family all the time. Of those I saw making the comments I'm more than willing to bet at least 90% of them were already getting massive public support every month of some sort now already. I bet if a fee of five bucks a head or twenty for a family at the gate was collect for this event which would be cheap for games, food, entertainment and rides you might see a different crowd and then maybe no crowd at all.

Remember, it was the Democrats who brought you not only the KKK but was responsible for the lynchings of hundreds of people.

Have they improved over the years any? Hell no, they have nort.

  17. Go4KC stated " This story should be about how the mayor blah blah blah." Wrong. TKC wrote the article as he saw fit so Go4KC if you want the article about the mayor doing nothing start your own blog and surely it will not have the reach of TKC. Besides we do not get on our knees in front of the mayor as you do.

The truth needs to keep getting out for everyone to see. The inept mayor has done nothing to reduce crime. All of his feel good organizations consists of nothing more than grifters trying to figure out more ways to get taxpayer money to line their pockets.

  18. I think Go4KC says a lot of what he does just to stir the pot and bait his opponents. No one could really have their nose that far up Sly’s buttcrack.

  19. Sly thinks free pizza (paid for by the taxpayers) is going to curb the murder rate.

  20. Stupor Dave, you have to be one constipated mother fucker. Obviously your dribble was written while taking a shit.

As for the comment by @ 2:37, spare me the fucking political drama. Who gives a fuck what a Democrat or a Republican thinks or does. They are one and the same. One gives it away and the other steals it while being a pervert. Go finger Stupor Dave and help him get that turd loosened up. Fuck.

Don't really understand this post. The Mayor was out there trying to help people and providing FREE entertainment for a lot of people. The crowd was much bigger than three dozen--it may have even been 36--but what does it matter? This story should be about how the mayor is working to prevent violence in our community rather than just sitting by and doing nothing about anything but the streetcar and subsidizing luxury apartments that losers like you will never even be allowed to tour, let alone afford to live in, as he does the other 364 days of the year. Again, nitpicking progress and criticizing the mayor for doing his job one day a year is not productive.

It's hard to tell whether you're talking about Drake or Sly.
    Sly's a fading star and yesterday's news.
There's a whole new lineup of D-list political celebrities and some of them aren't even waiting in the wings.

  26. Maybe Sylvester can get on stage with Salt N Peppa and shake his dank ass but the legacy of Sly James begins with The Drake Diss.
