Congressman Cleaver Denounces the Supreme Court’s Decision on the Travel Ban

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the travel ban which denies visas to nationals of six Muslim-majority countries. The lower courts struck down three previous versions of the travel ban. The Supreme Court announced its decision with a vote of 5-4 today on the case of Trump v. Hawaii.
“I am troubled by the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the travel ban. President Trump’s travel ban on specific countries undoubtedly targets Muslims. It is discriminatory and immoral. For the Supreme Court to uphold such a ban is an endorsement of further discrimination and religious intolerance. It is shameful.
When the travel ban was ordered during President Trump’s first year in office, I held a town hall in Kansas City, Missouri focusing specifically on immigration and the executive orders signed by the President. Thousands of people attended concerned about how the travel ban, then and now, would devastate families, rip them from their loved ones and encourage people to fear and develop animosity toward Muslims.
Make no mistake, we cannot allow our country to ban people solely because of their religion or nationality.”

No question it's a Trump victory but the way it's imposed my still be illegal. You can only go to the well so many times when it comes to immigration. Conservatives get frustrated with playing the bad buy and soon or later the faith communities will step in and take the right-wing momentum out of it. Altogether, the issue was a loser and actually one of President Trump's weaker points. The focus on jobs and the economy was supposed to be his saving grace and his record there is mixed but leaning toward good.

It is a terrorist ban, not a muslim ban. 92% of worldwide muslims are not under ban. That being said, the door is wide open to banning all of Central America and Mexico as these places are clearly invading and not immigrating.
