TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY FIGHTS CITY HALL DOUBLE DOWN ON TAXPAYER SUBSIDY FOR THREE LIGHT LUXURY APTS!!!

Here's a glimpse at an ongoing struggle and more fighting ahead as the development agenda trumps every other City Hall priority . . .

KANSAS CITY TAX FIGHTERS OPPOSED EPIC SUBSIDY FOR LUXURY LIVING SPACE THAT WILL SHORT CHANGE SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES AND NEIGHBORHOODS!!!

City Hall & the City Manager's office claim that KC is locked into the deal but that's not altogether accurate.

What's worse is that the beneficiary of the deal, Cordish, has offered "low-income" housing as a sign of good faith but their proposed peace offering is pricey at best and might cost about $1200-a-month -- Cheaper than luxury living space but not affordable at all by KCMO standards.

And so, check the links & deets as we preview the ongoing debate . . .

KMBC: Groups opposing tax incentives for new high-rise apartments Three Light - Developers want 100 percent in property tax relief for up to 25 years.

Deets:

Critics have voiced strong opposition to the tax-incentive proposal, especially since the City Council in Kansas City recently approved a $17.5 million parking garage for the project.

Leaders with Kansas City Public Schools and the Kansas City Public Library say it could take away much needed revenue from both entities.

“The city has increasingly designed an economic development program and a tax structure that subsidizes real estate for wealthy, frequently out of town owners, with tax dollars meant for social services,” said Kansas City Public Library Director Crosby Kemper III.

Public education could, meanwhile, be shorted approximately $12 million under the deal, according to a letter of opposition from the Kansas City Public School District.

Meanwhile . . .

The Coalition for Kansas City Economic Development Reform is putting the word out via their petition that's gaining traction and has already garnered hundreds of supporters . . .

Here's the word:

Three Light project will be discussed at the upcoming 353 Board Meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, May 23rd at 8:30am.

WE NEED PEOPLE to show up!

1100 Walnut, in the Jackson Room on the 17th floor.

This is our best chance to express just how WRONG it would be to give Cordish a free pass on property tax for their luxury housing projects.

  1. just another KC ripoff. The only thing good to come out of this discussion is that we'll know who voted on it and they will have to answer for it when they run for reelection.

    1. The entire discussion has pretty much ruined downtown. Now they're going to try to figure out what constitutes "affordable" based on even more fake data. Mayor & Council showing how much they're working for developers over voters.

    2. I'm confused, I thought the streetcar and all of our downtown investment would prevent us from having to give away such hefty tax breaks because we would attract more developers who wanted to get in on the profits?

I guess that didn't work out.

Just another lie built to trick voters.

  2. Just like the hotel. If it's such a great deal, why don't they build it without the tax breaks?

  3. ^^^ You plebs don't understand. This is how Kansas City does business. Companies come far and wide because our elected leaders sell the city down the river at every opportunity.

Can bet the local TV News Media Reporters & Anchors are Shills for this corrupt Fraudulent KCMO City Council

TV Stations like KCTV5 and its reporters & Anchors will NOT question any of this, but instead "PUMP & HYPE" how good it will be for the city !

as usual nobody will have the guts to call out KCTV5 for its lousy pathetic reporting & lies by its Commie Liberal reporters who COVER for Corrupt Fraudulent KCMO Mayor Sly James & Staff , typical of those young reporter shills !!!

and followed up behind KCTV5 is KMBC TV CH9

then KSHBTV 41 will provide more cover ups for the corrupt Mayor as usual with more Hype & bullshit ! Just like the street car and all those hundreds of millions that'll ride it daily ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Majority of KCMO Citizens are too dumbed down, weak & ignorant to do anything about any of this anyway ~ their just like the Degenerate pathetic idiots out in California / Commie'fornia that are watching their state and cities slide into utter chaos under Democratic Communist liberal controlled leadership !

  9. 100% for 25 years is bullshit!

How about 100% first year 50% second year and on the third year you pay up suckers.

How many real taxpayers get to build a new house and get sweet deals like that?

  10. You peasants think that because you are white, you are special.

Wrong; you are worker drones - a dime a dozen. There will be no affordable housing. Workers will eventually live in dormitories, & only the elites will have homes. Food & water will have to be rationed. There will be lotteries to determine who gets the much coveted service jobs. There will be no upward mobility. Any one who can't work will be euthanized to decrease the surplus population, & lessen the burden on society & the ever decreasing resources. Only the elites will have health care & educational opportunities.

The elites will still play at nations, to further the myth that they actually belong to any one country. Displays of patriotism will be mandatory (for the peasants), as will be military service (for the peasants.) Church attendance will be mandatory at the state sanctioned Church of America. Sterilization will be mandatory for all peasants; only the elite will be permitted to have children. Fraternization between the sexes will be forbidden for the peasants.

    Think this won't happen?

    It's unavoidable ...

  15. What i like is that it's basically a pump & dump scheme.

They're already making plans to sell off these apartments as slums. This will be ghetto central when they're done taking the profits.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Great Comments. You will walk out of your apartments and the beggars will ask you if you have a few dollars to buy a drink. They ask me coming out of a reasturant. There will be the haves and the have nots. Or is this a rented Lifestyle they don't own anything. Fifteen hundred plus a month for an apartment. Five hundred dollars a month to lease a car.And BUFFY the High MATENENCE DRAMA QUEEN. A FEW thousand a month .MOVIN on up two the three Light. You better watch you wallet at night

  18. it's all just "Political Opera", posturing...goin' thru the motions for you pds's...that's poor, dumb SOB's that you are...soon, real soon, when the dust settles, your city council will "lay down" for the cause..and you will be responsible to pay for it....

  19. The city council gives our money to rich people then they tell us they need $800 million for improvements and our water bills are sky high!

    ReplyDelete
  20. My understanding was this was part of the deal when they originally proposed these condos and now the city wants to renege on them to look like they're fighting for better schools or some bullshit even though they were the ones who negotiated it. They want it both ways. I'm happy when anyone gets a tax break in KCMO whether it be a corporation or individual because giving the mayor and the city council more money to work with is an even worse prospect.
