TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! KANSAS CITY MLK ADVISORY COMMITTEE PRESENTS NEW AIRPORT TRIBUTE AS TOP CHOICE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS ICON TRIBUTE!!!
Our blog community warned about this earlier in the week.
Now . . .
THE KANSAS CITY AIRPORT COMMITTEE OFFERS NEW AIRPORT AS THEIR TOP CHOICE FOR AN MLK RENAME!!!
2nd choice is 63rd street.
Moreover . . .
THE PASEO DIDN'T RANK HIGH ENOUGH FOR A MENTION!!!
Of course, the decision isn't final and is now subject to even more debate.
But, for now, a power move by the Revs has been thwarted as a greater diversity of opinion in the KCMO urban core is offered.
Team Sly seyz the next steps on this issue are to be determined.

KCUR: Kansas City's New Airport Terminal May Be Named After Martin Luther King Jr.
KMBC: “This to me would be kind of bold, maybe a little more daring,” said Bob Kendrick, President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
KCTV5: Patrick Klein, Director of Aviation, Marketing & Air Service Development for the Kansas City Aviation Department, told the committee in a May 10 letter that most airports that carry an individual's name are "not well-known."
Developing . . .
A great day for Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteIndependent thinkers abound!
Glad to see this decision is getting a lot of discussion. The mayor deserves his due for not giving into a politically motivated effort.
Great now people around the country will associate MLK airport with being a ni**er town.
ReplyDeleteThis is so embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteSo embarrassing.
DeleteTKC mentioned this earlier but a lot of money will just go to the King family for the naming rights.
ReplyDeleteWhy should we pay extortion?
^^^ Good question.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry. I'll come out of the general fund and they'll just raise your taxes.
I just took a dump and before I flushed it, I named it MLK.
ReplyDeleteI would rather see the airport named after James Earl Ray. He was a hero.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't really matter, KCI will just join the Broadway Bridge and the Paseo Bridge on the list of shit City Hall calls by the wrong name.
ReplyDeleteMetro
ReplyDeleteLacking
Kharacter
This is the right thing to do. Now we have a high profile tribute to King without having to divide the city even further.
ReplyDeleteIf you really don't like it, then feel free to leave your name and what neighborhood you live.
There will not be any objection to this from the business community. They will embrace it.
The airport is an excellent idea. Much better than just a streets. City leaders should support the idea! It's long overdue that Kansas City honor one of the greatest Americans who ever lived.
ReplyDeleteMartin Luther King, Jr. is the icon of a failed idea.
DeleteIf you consider MLK “one of the greatest Americans that ever lived,” you definitely don’t set the bar too high.
DeleteWe need to vote on it!
ReplyDeleteI agree with @7:10 - that's why it should be TRUMAN AIRPORT!
ReplyDeleteRe-name 47th Street after MLK!
+1 ^^^
ReplyDeleteBest comment so far @ 7:11. All of the metro area should get a vote on the name because we all pay for it through ticket prices and use fees.
A vote would show how KC really feels about the name.
MLK had nothing to do with this part of the country, he never visited KC. Let Memphis rename their airport. Stupid idea, plus we pay fee to his estate ! WTF ? The greedy estate of a dead man too lazy to run for office and change things civilly, caused riots and destruction. Name something after him ? Explain why ?
ReplyDeleteName it Harry S Truman Int Airport or the Rob Riggle Airport or Thomas Hart Benton but MLK? With zero history Or affiliation to KC? Makes zero sense.
ReplyDeleteKilla City Airport would be more honest.
ReplyDeleteThe MLK name is a divisive name from the past. Not a name that will help advance this areas race relations. It will only be a constant reminder of something this country needs to get over. Until Obama stirred things up I for one did not notice what color people are. We all need to move on...
ReplyDeleteThis is just so wrong and I mean so wrong. Here is what Super Dave posted over on TKC's Facebook page and is so right.
ReplyDeleteIn the end what does this do for Kansas City, not a damn thing is what. More snake and oil crap from 12th and Oak to cover up the really important issues effecting Kansas City. I swear the powers and groups that be can waste more time and money on events that will not in anyway improve the life and well being of anyone in Kansas City outside of the 20 or so people whose brilliant idea this was to do. Lets rename 12th and Oak, The Insane Asylum.
I see on Facebook where Tony really liked Dave's turkey taco salad!
DeleteMorons.
ReplyDeleteThis is so dumb!
Kansas City will be known as BUCKWEAT airport
or
Jigaboo' Airport
Please Notice How A Small Group Of Activist Black Clergy Are Hijacking Municipal Policy In KCMO
ReplyDelete...and the racial panderers at City Hall encourage it.
...and the white liberal JOCO suburbanites at the KC Star egg them on (as long as they stay out of their neighborhoods).
...and the residents of KCMO are expected to roll over and have an unnecessary name change burden placed upon them.
...only the squeaky wheel black activists are allowed to operate like this (e.g., Cleaver Blvd.).
Ask yourself why the airport terminal has no chance to be named after Caesar Chavez, Leonard Peltier, John Brown, or someone who, you know, was actually from KCMO, like:
Oleta Adams
Robert Altman
Burt Bacharach
Count Basie
Thomas Hart Benton
Richard Berkley
Walter Cronkite
Walt Disney
Amelia Earhart
Donald Hall, Sr.
Ernest Hemingway
Ewing and Muriel Kauffman
Jay McShann
J.C. Nichols
Satchel Paige
Charlie Parker
Gordon Parks
Casey Stengel
Harry Truman
Tom Watson............and many more!
Classic KCMO, local politicos are forever talking trash about KC becoming a "world-class" city, but they won't even highlight the well-known people from here!
ReplyDeleteMartin Luther King Jr International Airport.
are you freakin' kidding?
WAAAAAAAY too long of a name for an airport!!
MLK KC!
ReplyDeleteLet's do this!
This is a really bad idea. It does not make Kansas City better for all the reasons in previous posts on this article.
ReplyDeleteMLKjr never came to the Kansas City area. He has no connection with this area at all. I am not disparaging his name or his contributions to the civil rights movement. I am not being anti-black. I am not being racist in any way.
There will be a price to be paid to the King family in perpetuity. They will demand a tremendous sum of money from the city every year. And we know how the city complains about Cordish wanting to be paid their script. It is a bad idea.
The Reverends are just looking to exercise power over the people. Put it to a vote!
Just when you think the leadership in KCMO can’t get any dumber. What an embarrassment to KC. There are parks, churches and schools all over the city that could be named after MLK if they’re convinced something needs to be.
ReplyDeleteTruman international. Name it after someone who was actually from the area and was a big figure. Putting MLK name on anything only causes it to be a place of despair and murder. This social justice warrior trash has got to end.
ReplyDeleteAnyone. Price how the leftists hijacked the black lives matter movement and turned it into trans lives matter? Omg that shit is hilarious. After trump won they were all down at the WW1 memorial chanting that garbage with one of their idiots waving the communist flag. Oh, most of them were from Westport or west plaza. You know, where the losers live.
Truman was born in Lamar, Mo. Airport name= KCI Why change it? Just because we wasted a BILLION +++ dollars on something we don't/didn't need?
ReplyDeleteMake
ReplyDeleteLiberals
Kings
Name the main runway MLK runway for all of the black skid marks left by the planes.
ReplyDeleteName it Depends Airport for the diaper loads you people are leaving for it.
ReplyDelete^^^obsessed with feces... creepy
ReplyDelete@6:52am.......dude that's some funny shit. Downright side splitting funny.
ReplyDeleteVote on it? These people voted to expand the Toy Train streetcar! They'll probably vote to name it Marilyn Manson Airport
