TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY SCLC DENOUNCES AIRPORT & 63RD STREET TRIBUTE AS 'UNFIT & A DISHONOR TO LEGACY OF DR. KING' AMID ONGOING MLK NAME CHANGE PETITION FOR THE PASEO!!!

Everyone knew that the debate over the proposed name change for The Paseo would continue.

But now, in the words of the petitioners . . .

CHECK THE OUTRIGHT REJECTION OF THE NEW AIRPORT AND 63RD STREET FOR MLK TRIBUTE!!!

Proximity to the African-American community & dedicated funds for beautification and maintenance seem to be the main talking points.

Just published by Rev. Dr. Vernon P. Howard, Jr.

Here's the FULL TEXT of the response to KCMO MLK Advisory committee recommendations . . .

SCLC Undaunted in Effort to Change Paseo to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Kansas City has announced its continued efforts to change the name of Paseo to Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd here in Kansas City. A recent announcement by the mayor of Kansas City identifying a city sponsored recommendation to choose potential different locations such as a terminal in the KCI Airport are described by SCLC-GKC president Dr. Vernon Howard, Jr., "unfit and a dishonor to the legacy of Dr. King."

"We will continue to gather the necessary signatures in order to put this matter on the ballot," said Dr. Howard, "to be precluded only by our very own efforts to work with the city council to draft and present an ordinance that would authorize the name change of Paseo. Our coalition of over 50 organizations and the hundreds of partners who marched and rallied with us and who are gaining signatures deserve no less."

On April 13th, 2018, SCLC and the coalition led hundreds of Kansas Citians across the metro in a march and rally for peace initiating its petition drive to take the matter to the ballot, which included keynote address and support from U.S. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II and several religious, neighborhood, business, political, and Civil Rights leaders.

"The airport identification wholly rejects and disregards the inner city and urban core where most poor people and people of color live, said Dr. Howard. "These are the folks Dr. King fought for and with." He continued, "63rd St. does not offer the funding for beautification and maintenance necessary for honorable upkeep because it is not a Boulevard and is an affront to the hundreds of people, including grassroots and high profile leaders, who have worked so hard and brought this issue to the forefront."

  1. What I like here is that he's pushing back against the white liberals. They say that Dr. King's legacy is for all people and want an east to west road. But the reality is that the petitioners are asking for a tribute within the black community. Local "progressives" should stop trying to tell people what they want and instead maybe just listen.

    2. The airport was never going to happen, the paseo is more likely. Maybe the petition is the best idea because then all of KC will get to vote on it.

What would be better is a list of options instead of just yes or no.

If the whole city is going to have to pay for it, we should all have a say.

    3. Whatever the case, I think the ordinance language needs to include a clause that KC isn't locked into paying a yearly ransom to the King family.

  2. Can't argue with his logic on 63rd street. The potholes alone are pretty hard to deal with.

Is it time we renamed Cleaver Blvd? That seems to meet all of their requirements and nobody would care about it. Sly proposing that would be a strong move.

Go a step further. A lot of people would be willing to give them Swope Parkway which also satisfies their demands.

But the hijacking of the Paseo to trying and stop development is simply unacceptable.

  3. How about just not name anything after Martin Loser King? He never once darkened our city with his big mouth and fat lard ass.

  5. It’s an “front” to me to have to pay to change a name for somebody who’s never been here and an bigger affront to have to pay an annual fee for said name. If the pastors want this so bad why don’t they and their flocks pay for it.

This has nothing to do with that mlk but has everything to do with getting back at whitey, by the way if a blackie calls you boss man he’s calling you an asshole. Boss in black lingo means Asshole in case you didn’t know

  6. The fat fake revs have more important things to tend to other than renaming streets in their shithole hood. Like maybe they should focus their efforts on preventing hood rats from killing each other and innocent people all the time.

  7. Will there be a vote no campaign?

    That would be interesting.

  8. I watched Ruckus last night and almost lost it when he was asked by Mike if naming the airport for MLK wasn't really about trying to force a black identity to a mostly white demographic and he said that that was the whole idea. He's an arrogant egomaniacal ass.

We just give money to blacks just to keep them quite is all or they’ll fake racism and make sLIE’s city look bad.

  13. MLK Jr. was a notorious adulterer. He had multiple affairs and hired prostitutes on a regular basis. So, as the Harvey Weinstein of his day, it is unlikely that The Paseo will be named in his honor as soon as #MeToo gets involved. Because we all know how objective and non-partisan they are.

  32. With very few exceptions, black people have only Civil Rights Leaders and the "Civil Rights Cause" that they can hang there hats on.

Excellence in other fields is rare and usually accompanied by white people in the shadows, actually doing the work.

When I see that commercial on TV, where the black kid working at a Fast Food restaurant hands the notification from some college to a white guy to read if he has been accepted (Who wrote this shit, a white guy reads it? The guys writing the commercial just might MIGHT be sending a message.), I think that his SAT score, is probably, like most blacks, 200 to 250 points behind some poor white kid that didn't get to go to college, so, that we can all pretend again, that blacks are "equal" if just given a chance.

The Black "Revs", in uniform I see, bow tie and all, are preposterous, pretentious pretenders to an excellence that is genetically beyond them.

  33. BREAKING!!!!!!

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference(SCLC)of Greater Kansas City has announced that they will NOT change the name of their organization to the proposed "MLK Jr. Leadership Conference" as it would be inconvenient, costly, and confusing.

Dr. Vernon P. Howard Jr. confirmed that the organization's goal was to gain political power for themselves and force KCMO to change the name of an existing high-profile landmark, thus proving that their group indeed had political power to flex.

When confronted with the illogical idea of changing something that already had an established name, and that such an act would be an affront to King's legacy, Dr. Howard snapped, "This isn't really about Dr. King, you fool!" Good to know.

  36. All right already! Give the Rev's something so they will STFU and go away. Give them Swope Parkway. Same type of road. Same beautification funds available. Further east. Good road. Wonderful neighborhoods. Not weaving in and out of the South Mid-town freeway, oops, US 71. And the Swope's have all that park land named after them anyway.
Leave The Paseo and KCI and 63rd and 75th alone. Change Cleaver II Blvd if you must.

    ReplyDelete
  37. ^^^ Agree that Swope might be the solution here.

    ReplyDelete
  38. They would name a street after David Duke as long as they can get their paws on the ongoing funds for “beautification.” It’s another Cheptoo debacle waiting to happen. The proposed street will always and forever be in need of funds to keep it “beautiful,” and given their track record of vandalism and other crime it will be needing beautified constantly and be just another racial snowjob on taxpayers. If this is such a pressing issue, let the blacks raise money and maybe the city can do some level of matching program. Then take the funds and choose a black artist to create a piece of sculpture, etc. to go in “MLK Park” somewhere on the east side.

    ReplyDelete
  39. In the name of social justice we need to rename Ward Parkway Blvd to MLK Blvd.

    ReplyDelete
  40. As a taxpayer in KCMO, I have a real issue in naming ANYTHING after someone who requires that we pay an annual "tribute" to his/her legacy. This is absolutely absurd!!! And besides, he wasn't exactly a unanimously popular person so its hard to force this onto the entire populace. Just like renaming Wornall the " Donald T Blvd"; you wouldn't like it either. So forget this folly and move on. Besides, why do a bunch of pastors get to make this decision for all of Kansas city?

    1. Your concerns are perfectly logical, but things have gone too far down the politically correct pathway. If you have any opposition to something minority related, you’re automatically labeled as racist. This is the course the left has chosen for the US.

It would be really funny to see a vote on this one defeated. Hope people will get off their duff and do something besides talk. It's a shame that a small group of people get to dictate something that all of KC will pay for. And it's not like I don't support some sort of honor for MLK.

I would be more than happy to contribute to a private fund to do it. But hijacking miles of KC roads for this is too much.
