LOL!!! KANSAS CITY DEFINES 'AFFORDABLE HOUSING' AS $1,100 A MONTH!!!

Today's bad joke from City Hall, Mayor & Council kowtow to luxury apartment developers and diligently work to justify tax subsidies.

Reality: This is local government treading water to desperately trying to make sure most people aren't priced out of Downtown and a reminder that corporations really run this town.

"The new ordinance, which will take effect in early June, defines affordable housing at 30 percent of the median income Kansas City, Missouri, around $1,100 a month. The measure also directs the city manager to give extra weight to housing developments with rents lower than $1,000 a month."

Related From Fox4: Evictions spread as housing prices soar - The Jackson County court docket is filled with eviction cases on what some call "Eviction Thursday." According to the Kansas City Eviction Project, an average of 42 evictions are filed every business day in Jackson County.

Back to the main story . . .

Initially, Cordish wanted to define low-income at 2K per month and get even more tax breaks on their next project.

Meanwhile, there's a tiny minority of residents battling this City Hall giveaway who realize that justifying incentives by offering additional tax breaks for even more apartments with slightly lower rent is just another losing proposition.

    1. The vast majority of black folks I know pay up to 3-times that on average for houses from $250-900K homes. I know this comes as a shock to you but it seems the world has passed you by. All Black folk aren’t poor. The vast majority by percentage of food stamp/welfare recipients are white. Climb out of your racist hole...

    2. Just because they PAY it, doesn’t mean they can AFFORD it. The blacks have long been notorious for living beyond their means. TKC frequently has stories about Frank White and his delinquent mortgage or that black gal on the city council that was driving some sort of luxury car but couldn’t afford to have it tagged. Some people call it living n——r rich.

  3. ^^^ Newsflash to you 8:16. We're not just talking about black people. In fact, that's not even mentioned in the post.

Seems like you are trying to deflect the issue with your stupid racial bullshit. Try that garbage somewhere else, this is TKC.

Looking at the money, the taxpayer subsidy makes life harder on WORKING people of all colors.

Nobody gives a damn about your Cadillac or how much you paid for it.

But informed people are concerned about the rising cost of living because the chucklehead clown mayor is giving away this city one building at a time.

  5. ^^^ Actually I agree with 8:16. First he destroyed @7:58 and then he makes a good point about the black middle-class. What I notice is that they care more about keeping KCMo affordable for poor whites than the other way around. The only way to avoid more homeless people on the streets and horrible housing situations is to start thing about the issue in dollars and cents and beyond stereotypes.

  6. I think a lot of you are missing what this really means.

More Section 8 for Kansas City neighborhoods in "middle" income areas. That means you Brookside. Good luck to you!

  7. Going from the average median income doesn't take into account all of the single-parent households in Kansas City. There are a lot of single moms who would struggle to pay 1,100 a month. Some of us are lucky and have good paying jobs and own homes but there are so many others who would never be able to meet that standard. Where do they live?

KC is becoming nothing but a high rent showcase for Cordish and that is extremely troubling.

  8. LOL!! WTF!!! NMD!!! MLK!!! BBQ!!!!

  9. I don't dispute the calculation of 1,100 as affordable. I think you'll find that rents and mortgages match that across the metro area.

But think about this, when paying that kind of money in many suburbs you also get good schools, safer streets, prompt trash pick up and lower utilities whereas in KCMO the higher rents are only the beginning of expenses to pay out of pocket for items that elected leaders have neglected. That's why I have to take all of the talk about people moving back to the city with a grain of salt. It's mostly people who are wealthy or have finished raising their children.

  10. Sounds like they don’t want colored people living downtown and I can’t really blame them. But now they have to deal with a downtown crowd that is about 90% faggots.

  16. At the very least there's some effort to define terms here. Developers saying that 2,000 a month is "affordable" is just an outright fabrication. Now that we know what we're dealing with, we can work from there.

  18. $1.100 is the affordable rent figure in a place where most people work for minimum wage and zero benefits? Holy shit. Are all you people smoking meth or what?

    ReplyDelete
  19. ^^^"Most" employed Kansas Citians do not work for minimum wage and zero benefits. For those relatively few who do, there are plenty of older apartments and houses that cost less than $1100 per month, as they know quite well (but I'm not sure you do).

  20. I'd rather Cordish be in charge than the elected officials who have been in charge here over the last 30 years. At least Cordish faces consequences for failing
