TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KCMO CONFRONTS DANGEROUS HOBO CRISIS 2018!!!

An ongoing explosion in the homeless population now threatens the progress of Kansas City developers hoping to cash in on Downtown renaissance hype.

Moreover . . .

MORE HOBOS PLAGUING DOWNTOWN ALSO THREATEN THE CLUELESS MIDDLE-CLASS NEW GENTRY!!!

Don't worry, we have examples . . .

- The Central Library is an admitted hobo haven and now a dangerous place for youngsters.

- At the outset of Winter cold, a West Bottoms DEADLY HOBO PIMP CANE STABBING proved that development schemes don't impress the dregs of the local populace.

- Fake civic booster stats claim the number of local homeless is declining but a quick look around downtown on a nice day offers evidence to the contrary. Worse still, better stats reveal hidden youth homelessness is on the rise.

Just a bit more proof . . .

Over the past few days local media has been talking trash & ongoing dumping problems without doing much journalism regarding the cause . . .

LIKE IT OR NOT KANSAS CITY HOBO VILLAGE TRASH DUMPING THREATENS LOCAL VISTAS OVERLOOKED BY DOWNTOWN LUXURY HOUSING!!!

Example . . . The view of the West Bottoms before Spring foliage provides cover looks like a DMZ.

And so, from constant car break-ins near the loop and the bum fights that often plague 12th & Oak . . . The reality is that the season of dangerous hobos is nearly upon us despite real estate selling season hype.

Developing . . .

  1. Looks like a fun spot there. Maybe a site for a new coffee shop! Or we can just call it modern art.

    1. The problem here is that a lot of the people, even those who live in the camps don't identify as homeless or their drug problem is so bad that they aren't taking those counting surveys.

Blame the opiod epidemic or just bad luck, but yes. There are more drug addicted homeless in KC now. I guess that makes us a world class city after all.

    2. ^^ They're not uncounted.

Where do you think that 25 million tourist number comes from?

  2. They are homeless.

    Not hobos.

Please don't use that term interchangeably. It negates the seriousness of the problem in serving this growing community.

      They used to call'em bums.

Now I guess the term is bloggers, alt-right or progressives.

  3. The Central Library in no longer a hobo haven. The homeless have moved to the streetcar. The trolley is not a safe place for youngsters unless a CID employee is onboard.

  4. 7:51 A majority of them are HOBO's They stand out on the streets with their signs everyday in the same spot. Some even have fake props they use to get attention! They have cigarettes and cell phones ( imagine that) They stand on the Plaza when they could be applying for jobs as dishwashers. While some may be homeless and/or mentally ill, not all of them are, and Kansas City has help, places like City Union Mission. A majority of them don't want help. THEY ARE HOBO'S and BUMS!

I travel this sidewalk often. It's the ultimate homeless spot. Good shelter, quite area, food source, etc..... but lots of trash. I have seen a few trash barrels there like they are trying to collect trash. I wouldn't classify them as dangerous.....yet.
There must be room for over 100 people there.

Wow, speaking of "jobs", look who came up for air, and is resting his rosy palms long enough to peck out crazed comments while on the taxpayers' dime. Yeah, we know who really doesn't care about Killa City's homeless.

  9. The Weekly Standard just did a cover story about increasing homeless problems in otherwise prospering cities i.e. Seattle, San Francisco, etc.

Competitive capitalism means there's always winners and losers and over time the number of winners shrinks and the number of winners grows. This is us, like it or not.

  10. There are so many smelly homeless using the streetcar for their rolling hobo home that the streetcar is spending money on special carbon filters to use on the cars to deal with the smell. Just wait until summer, when the sweaty stinky homeless use the streetcar as a cooling station. Ewww.

  11. "Competitive capitalism means there's always winners and losers and over time the number of winners shrinks and the number of winners grows. This is us, like it or not."

We would be wise to do something to even this out if for no other reason than self-preservation. FDR was no dummy, hence we have Social Security and a host of now-fraying safety nets, but we avoided an uprising during the Great Depression. I favor a universal basic income, but something needs to happen. And for those who say they won't go for higher taxes to support such a program, I say losing some is better than losing it all.

Oh, and we don't have "competitive capitalism." We have socialism (too big to fail) for the rich and capitalism for everyone else.

  12. The homeless were there first. It's the millennial wannabe social climbers who are the intruders.

  13. Don't get close to those bums because they stink plus you can't put anything past them as far as if they pull out a knife or physical harm by them. Just stay away from them.

sLie will probably put a tax increase on the ballots because we should do more to take care of the hobo's.

  14. I meant, number of winners shrinks, number of losers grow.

I'm more and more inclined to favor a system that abolishes ALL entitlements and pays each adult citizen roughly $15,000 a year -- same as we spend on entitlements. Two parents in a household would automatically start out with $30,000 each year, plus what they earn. The hope is this would get people out of despair and giving up and encourage them to work, to do more positive things. And every citizen would get it, even the very wealthy only because that's fair AND more importantly, eliminates gov't bureaucracy.

    1. It a pussy. Giving people more shot is not going to encourage them to work. You can never give them enough. Dumbass

  15. And yes, privatized profits, socialized risks esp in volatile sectors like finance. A very small group of people put everyone else's money at risk to reap massive short-term profits, but when things go bad, they can dodge responsibility, file bankruptcies, hide assets, or... you know, get a bailout from gov't.

Many of these homeless are working but they can't afford the rent or there living in their van or car. While the world economy collapse. The Metro area economy is well. But if you're tourist see this and tell friends and relatives, in the long term it well hurt your tourist economy. And you're new hotel Downtown will suffer ...There are a million hobos IN California. That is on its way to A CITY NEAR YOU. .

  20. The wealthy are another component of the "entitlement mindset." They expect (entitled) bigger and bigger bonuses every year -- and they'll do anything to get them.

When talks of increasing taxes for wealthy comes up they whine and complain. This isn't fair! Which, when someone farther down the ladder says, this isn't fair, they shout back, "Life isn't fair! Buck up and quit complaining!"

The wealthy are much more finicky and self-absorbed and selfish than any class. Always been that way throughout all history. Not a novel idea.

But the media has done a great job of turning that upside down. Both left and right media are the same establishment always-get-their-way class. They're friends behind the scenes. Attend each other's weddings and their kids inter-marry.

They've convinced us that ALL PROBLEMS are the fault of the individual. But when there's a problem in wealthy-land it's SOMEONE ELSE'S fault (gov't, media, etc.)

  21. Hobos arent't the problem. Homo millenials and all their trash from their happy meals are the problem.

  29. Downtown used to be a dynamic economic powerhouse. Now, downtown is nothing more than an OFFICE PARK. What do you expect? Drive out the small businesses and all you have left is office workers who never actually go outside, and are afraid of their own shadows.
