TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! THE DOWNFALL OF FACEBOOK: TRACY TALKS SOCIAL MEDIA & THE POLITICS OF DATA MINING!!!

For the late night we consider all of your frenemies online along with the future of a social media juggernaut that's enduring even more privacy concerns.

Even better . . .

WE REACHED OUT TO KANSAS CITY MARKETING LEGEND TRACY THOMAS FOR HER TAKE ON THE SOCIAL MEDIA HOT MESS AND HER PERSPECTIVE OFFERS A GREAT CONNECTION TO THE POLITICS OF THIS INTERNETS BEEF!!!

Checkit:

I hate Facebook, check it just once a week at most, because of friends.

It's a time suck.

I feel sorry for people who rant there about Trump as if anyone cares. I've seen Facebook cost people jobs. You're a fool if you don't think prospective employers check it -- and even if yours is closed, if they can find a mutual friend, they can check what you post that way--this also goes for former relationships.

Facebook--It's like bubble-bath for narcissists.

Ironically, everyone on one side thinks FB sold out to the Cambridge Analytica folks, or whatever their name is -- But Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg gave it away for free to Obama!!! Cozied up to the left, naively thinking they would then be exempt from government control of their industry -- The last laugh is on Zuckerberg. When the left turns on you, it's faster than a snake bite. And deadlier.

FB will be controlled.

  3. agree with tracy absolutely. the political discussions on there have always been an embarrassment and something that distracts from the site. the billions of dollars they lost were all speculative anyway. It's not like twitter will benefit from this, the smarter play would be google & apple or maybe even microsoft who provide real infrastructure for the internet.

  6. Great post TRACY.

If Teddy Bull Moose R, can bust up Standard Oil, then the manipulation, obfuscation and censoring of social mass media vehicles, that control the lion's share of information, should be at hand.

Agenda driven companies (Google, Facefuck, Twitter etal) , led by cazzillionaires like Zuckerberg and Bezos will be bent to the will of the electorate, from BOTH sides of the political spectrum, in order, to assure objective platforms that disseminate the objective truths and not the daily talking points from either Conservative , or Progressive 'thought leaders'.

Tax Amazon so that brick and mortar retail has a chance.

Fuck the one sided agitprop and censorship from Wiki, Google, Facebook, YouTube and the rich shills in Silicon Valley, who NEVER have to deal with the consequences of their Globalist Agenda.

    Tear them to pieces.

  7. NEWSFLASH!

Facebook has always been a tool of the intelligence agencies.

One of Facebook's earliest investors was a venture capital arm (In-Q-Tel) of the CIA.

Imagine getting millions of people worldwide to voluntarily post their personal data and photos on the web. It's a goldmine for data gathering and surveillance. And if you think you're account is private, preventing Big Brother from snooping, you're totally naive.

And if that weren't bad enough, Facebook manipulates users behavior by controlling what news, etc., gets fed to them.

Fuckerberg dumping fuckbook shares before fuckbook stocks tumble highly suspicious, I don’t care if he declared to the SEC last year he would be doing it, timing is everything, if it looks and smells like a rat, it is. Also openlly censoring conservative sites/speech with the overtly racist southern poverty law scumbags as their censors. All social media are about to get a major reboot. I'm not completely sure that Facebook is part of the Democratic Party agenda, they're a corporation and want profit - That's to be expected.

  18. The lady is spot-on. I opened a Facebook account several years ago, at the urging of family scattered across the country. It became a time-eater and frequent source of animosity among people who previously got along fine.

I finally deleted the account, weary of watching people I knew wreck their friendships, careers and marriages in a sad public karaoke of immature and asinine behavior.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm "not now, and have never been" a Facebook user, so I need some enlightenment that I'm sure Tracey and the other unbiased commenters on this site can provide.

On the one hand, we have statements like "Facebook is a tool of the Democratic Party" and "Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg cozied up to the left".

On the other hand we have facts, such as Russia using Facebook to disseminate propaganda to help elect our current President, and Cambridge Analytical, an organization set up to facilitate Trump's election, hiring some so-called "researcher" to obtain data from Facebook under false pretenses.

How can the known misuses of Facebook, either as a platform for dissemination of foreign propaganda or as a source of illegally obtained private data be blamed on the Political Left?

Why aren't the posters on this site ranting against the blatant and fraudulent misuse of Facebook by the GREEDY OLIGARCH'S PARTY?

Gosh folks, Russia and Trump benefited! Qui Bono?

This from John Hawkins who ran a Conservative web site.

"Remember the mainstream media liberals going out of their minds because the Russians reached almost 150 million people with their $100,000 Facebook ad buy? In July of 2015, in just a week, the Right Wing News Facebook page reached 133 million people. Because conservatives were sharing content they were interested in, little ol’ Right Wing News (well, I guess nearly 3.6 million Facebook likes isn’t so little) was driving the same amount of web traffic as some of the biggest newspapers in America. Barack Obama’s Facebook page was 36 times bigger than our page; yet we had 7 times as many people talking about our content.

Ironically, that’s a big part of what killed the website.

You see, what Facebook giveth, Facebook can take away. So, why would Facebook want to kill extremely successful Facebook pages that its users enjoyed?

Read the rest of the article.

    https://townhall.com/columnists/johnhawkins/2018/01/13/how-conservatives-are-being-destroyed-by-facebook-twitter-and-google-without-even-realizing-it-n2433962

Facebook, Twitter, Google, Youtube et al, censor and obfuscate when at all possible, conservative opinions in the same way, those loathsome parasites at the SPLC pretend that everything up to and including snow is racist.

There are, at this point, thousands of examples which prove the political bias of these organizations. That is no problem, until, media wealth and power is concentrated in exclusively in Progressive/Fascist companies who seek control over free speech by default.

Jeff Bezos buys the Washington Post, puts a motto on the front of the building that says, "Democracy Dies In Darkness", then, uses his galactic wealth to turn out the fuckin lights.

    Fuck these Fascist fucks.

  23. The search-engine behemoth is not just the portal through which the vast majority of online information flows, it is also the arbiter of what is good, what is morally correct, and ultimately, of course, what is accessible; consult your spouse, your partner, your father, your mother, your best friend, and even your God if you must, but in the end, Google is the all-wise and powerful entity that will either bless or deny your online shopping fancy.

If you think I’m exaggerating, then you probably didn’t engage with Google Shopping in the weeks after a deranged gunman slaughtered 17 innocents at a high school in Florida. If you had, then Google would have come between you and your red wine indulgence (no dice on the Burgundy), your desire for home improvement or car maintenance (popular high-powered degreaser, Gunk®, had been rendered nonexistent, as had glue guns and gunite), and even your taste in music (the entire “Guns ‘n Roses” catalogue – all 16 albums, spanning 33 years – had vanished).

And, what if you wanted to repaint your garage floor gun-metal gray, secure tee times at Eagle’s Nest Golf Course, located within Alabama’s beautiful Lake Guntersville State Park, or buy your eight-year-old nephew, Mikey, a powerful squirt gun with which to happily harass his older twin sisters? Well, Google would have denied you those pleasures too.

They are (Google) the most powerful company in American History.

They must, MUST be broken up.

  25. If Twitter and Facebook and Google and YouTube want to prohibit political discussions, most people would agree that they have that right.
What they do not have the right to do is promote political discussions by the Leftists and not allow anyone to reply.
FREE SPEECH does not require anyone to agree.....NOR does it protect the speaker from reply. That last part seems to be the sticking point.
If the Leftists and Communists and Liberals and Anarchists and Hispanics and Negroes and Muslims are allowed to promote their own agenda and interests, I will reply....even if they do not approve or like it.....I have as much RIGHT as they do.

  34. NEVER did sign up for a STUPID Facebook account

knew from the beginning that Mark FAKE Zuckerbergs / Fake'Book was a FRAUD !!!!!!!

Heres another FAKE Internet web site that is going around scewwing up peoples web sites, including many news sites as well,,,,,

"OUTBRAIN" seen on many web sites, promoting all kinds of Fake click advertising !!

"Taboola and Outbrain and both of their problems with SPAM recommendations and nearly ALL their clients promoting "known scams" !!!!!!!

Both OUTBRAIN & TABOOLA secretly install into web sites what are known as KEYLOGGERS to track what users read and see and click on, so they can send you SPAM Advertising and SPAM EMails !

They’re almost a web fixture: Those spammy-looking links at the end of news articles, with photos of former TV stars and headlines like “What she looks like now will amaze you!”

But despite the fact that many readers—and news companies, for that matter—hate them, they’re probably not going away anytime soon.

The reason for that is fairly simple: Those links make media companies a significant amount of money. And many of those outlets are so desperate for revenue that they are willing to do just about anything.

    LINK : http://fortune.com/2016/11/01/outbrain-taboola/

    ReplyDelete
  35. ALSO :

A report released last month by the nonprofit ChangeAdvertising.org found that 82 percent of the "TOP 50 news sites" “were using ‘content ads’/ CLICKBAIT ADs - from vendors including :
    Taboola

    Outbrain

    Revcontent

    Adblade

amongst others.” We wrote up some of the findings then:

Clickbait links are often bait-and-switch. This might not be a surprise to anyone who has ever clicked a recommended content link, but "recommended content headlines are often very different from those for the stories the link to".

Clicking “Horrifying Woodstock Photos That Were Classified” sends you to a story titled “Rare Photos From Woodstock,” to use one example of 20 that ChangeAdvertising.org cites.

Recommended content widgets still have a disclosure problem.

As with publishers, the recommended content companies can’t quite settle on the best way to disclose that their content is "paid for".

The preferred label, “Promoted Stories,” appeared on 16 percent of the links Change Advertising looked at.

At 11 percent, “From the Web” came second, followed by “From Around The Web” (9 percent) and “Recommended for You” (7 percent). The most clear labels (“Paid content,” “Ad content,” etc.) were the least used.

Finally. My opinion of a publisher plummets if I see this garbage recommended at the bottom of an article. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/31/business/media/publishers-rethink-outbrain-taboola-ads.html?_r=1 …

  49. Hey, DeBergerac--
I don't know what Qui bono means...

Both political parties harvested data from Facebook.
Both bragged about it, on videos widely distributed.
I'm not like Chuck, I seldom play "go fetch" on links, but you're smart, you could find it easily.

Facebook actually GAVE wide access to profiles to the Obama team and gave them an articificial expiration date of the day after the election. duh, they saved it, and used it afterward as well, for Clinton.

Whereas the R's, thru Cambridge Analytics, knew the raging bias of Facebook mgmt. So they paid. they followed the stated rules. They ran stupid contests and quizzes, and buried within the fine print of the quizzes AS WELL AS THE FINE PRINT OF FACEBOOK, permissions were granted.

So they used the system. Period.

Now this was before the radical changes in algorhythmic sharing that Facebook has now rolled out. Too late, the bucking broncos are out of the barn.

I do have to laugh, Cyrano, at your call for us to rant even more than we all do already!

I recommend chamomile tea. Soothe yourself, kind sir. Here, and not on Facebook, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Amazon is an internet sales tax outlier. It complies with state sales tax collection rules largely on a voluntary basis, but also because it has a physical presence in an increasing number of states. Many other internet sales sites do not collect and remit state sales taxes, including many of Amazon's third party vendors.

    ReplyDelete
  51. "To the benefit of whom".

Now, if I'm understanding correctly, Cambridge did not pay Facebook, but instead paid some Mercer-financed "Researcher" who collected the data, certifying to Facebook it was "for research purposes only", but did nothing with it except pass it on to Cambridge.

If "They used the system", didn't Carlo Ponzi and Willie Sutton just "use the system" as well? Fraudulent actions and lying are the new "ethics"?

Damn close to "the end justifying the means", isn't it?
I would hope neither of our Political Parties has reached that level, but have to admit that "it looks like a Duck,..."

    ReplyDelete
  52. OK, DeBergerac, good points.

Was the Ponzi scheme illegal before Ponzi? I doubt it.

So two ducks walk into a bar.
