NEWSFLASH: TIME TO RECONSIDER EPIC SUBSIDY FOR DOWNTOWN LUXURY LIFE!!!

Credit where it's due . . . This council lady is leading the way on the City Hall struggle to get out of a Cordish deal. The newspaper dutifully print her words that echo a lot of what local taxfighters have been saying for the past five years. Read more:

Downtown housing agreement between Kansas City and Cordish needs an update

If a measure that may go before the council Thursday is approved, the city's subsidy will increase by $17.5 million, and debt service would exceed $15 million from the general fund. This is equal to 2 percent of the general fund budget.

  1. "Councilwoman Katheryn Shields and I have co-sponsored a resolution that directs the city manager the renegotiate the agreement...." Why would Cordish want to renegotiate such a sweet deal? The two councilcritters can sponsor a resolution directing the city manager to make the Missouri River flow west, but that does not mean it will happen.

  2. Zona Rosa:
The situation is similar to the Power & Light District, where Kansas City agreed to guarantee debt on the downtown entertainment district if it did not generate enough sales to make payments to bondholders. The district has never made enough money on its own, and likely never will so long as the debt remains outstanding.

Cities and counties sometimes agree to guarantee developer debt in order to issue bonds with better interest rates. Doing so is a risky proposition in the event that the project doesn't create enough revenue on its own to cover debt payments. When that happens, taxpayer funds are used to make up the
    difference.

THIS CITY NEEDS TO LIVE WITHIN ITS BUDGET. VOTE NO ON EARNINGS TAX 20 YEAR EXTENSION. THESE FOLKS WILL NOT LEARN UNTIL TAXPAYERS SAY ENOUGH!!!!!

  3. 11:18 you're an idiot. (Nick Benjamin are you the author of 11:18?)

Finally two council members providing thoughtful and in-depth oversight and you name call them.

Any contract can be updated, amended or re-negotiated.

Keep up the good work Alissia.

    Alissia Canady for Mayor!

"Any contract can be updated, amended, or re-negotiated".
    Really?
This is the sound of one hand clapping.
Yet another example of the amateurs KCMO regularly elects to its government.
They regularly walk out of negotiations with developers and their attorneys wearing nothing but big smiles and their socks.
You can hear the Cordish executives laughing all the way from Baltimore!

  6. Most of the people that live downtown are faggots. Probably about 90% anyway.
They choose to live downtown becuase it is easier to find another queer to suck off or get buttfucked by. Why should taxpayers subsidize that?

  7. 11:51, 11:59, 12:01 are all posts meant to distract.

Yes, contracts can be updated, amended and re-negotiated. Good Canady and Shields are pushing forward for review and oversight. God knows there was no review and oversight of the crazy hotel and crazy airport projects. What terrible deals for the city. Time will prove as much. Just like time proved how one-sided the Cordish contract is.

  10. "Any contract can be updated, amended, or re-negotiated." That is technically true, 11:48, but only if ALL PARTIES to the contract agree to update, amend or re-negotiate it.

The point was, why would Cordish agree to"update, amend or re-negotiate" its contract? That will happen only if it will benefit Cordish.

  11. 2:53 have you ever met Alyssia Canady or Katheryn Shields? These women are smart and tough. Forces to be reckoned with. Unlike most of the elected dweebs in city hall. These two will find something(s) that benefit everyone. The rest of the council should watch and take note.

  12. 6:38, they may be smart and tough, or maybe not, but their sponsoring an inane resolution to make the Missouri River flow backwards brings them no credit.

    1. What are you afraid of... that a successful amendment could be precedent to amend or unwind all of Troys corrupt deals?
