Kansas City Weekly Power Rankings

Amid harsh times in the local discourse, here's a list of locals who STAY WINNING thanks to courage, dedication just a bit of luck.

Take a look:

Kansas City Anchorman Mark Alford Celebrates 20 Years & Counting

As the civic conversation moves away from the newspapers, Mr. Alford now has a higher profile on the local talk show pundit circuit and his Centre-Right politics are a stark contrast to the deluge of local progressive talking points backed by patrons and donors. This contrast is important because he's not a right-wing paid talking head either and his objectivity as a news dude allows him greater freedom to analyze issues objectively.

Kansas City Student Protesters Against Gun Violence Dominated The Local Discourse

Without question and agree or not . . . Local students arguing for greater restrictions on 2nd Amendment gun rights were the focus of most of the local talk this week and made their case to voters along with providing a glimpse at the future of the electorate.

Prospero's Immersed In The KC Discourse

This Midtown Kansas City bookstore took a bold stance with a horrible marketing campaign and then had the courage to back down amid outcry from far more progressive/activist customers. In the end, the conversation helped raise the brand identity for the establishment and maybe revealed a few of their patrons & hangers-on who didn't really have the best interests of the local reader community at heart . . . In the midst of more honest objections that didn't want their favorite bookstore to seem callous.

As always . . .

This list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's a weekly comprehensive guide to local powerful people.

  1. There should be more balance in the news and that's a good thing. But overall the discussions are still dominated completely by the left.

    1. Got one of the stickers just in time. It's a shame how people want to jump all over a good idea and destroy it instead of having a conversation about it. That was the real tragedy in the Prospero's garbage.

    2. ^^^ Garbage. you have to know your customers. That's the moral of the story.

      Get over it.

  3. Chicago students allegedly trash Walmart during National School Walkout protest. Black students!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Surprise, surprise !! Police are trying to identify between 40 to 60 students who took the five-minute walk from the school and allegedly trashed parts of the store, knocking over product displays, yanking items off the shelves, breaking packages, and stealing small items such as chips and candy.

  4. “We are very concerned that a walkout intended to promote peace instead led to vandalism and violence,” a Chicago Public Schools spokesperson said in a statement.

Several students echoed that sentiment, as did 21st Ward Alderman Hoard Brookins, who helped get Walmart to move to the South Side.

STUDENT WITH ‘TRUMP’ FLAG ASSAULTED BY MOB DURING NATIONAL SCHOOL WALKOUT

"We've worked too hard to try to get these national retailers here in our community. And this doesn't help us. It makes no sense to tear up the community which you call home,” Brookins said. (Ferguson again???)

A Chicago police spokesman said the students will likely be charged with misdemeanors and face discipline with the school.

  6. I remember demonstrating against the Vietnam War when I was a high school student. We were told that the issues were too complex for us to understand, that we were wasting our time, that we were too young to be taken seriously, that we were being blindly led by Communists, etc.

Tricky Dick declared victory & brought the troops home just before he was forced to resign for his criminal activities.

It seems like I've seen this movie before.

  7. 11:36 You're right this is KC where hoodrat scholar utes crash now defunct Independence Center, Bannister Mall and Indian Springs. Onward and upward time to hit the Plaza for keeps.

  8. Speaking of St. Patricks's day, the Kansas City Atheist Coalition will be carrying their stooped signs again this year.

My favorite is the one that says. "I'm an atheist, ask me anything."

So I did, and this odd looking guy told me to "fuck off, troll".

Can you believe it? Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Goobers.

  9. Tony, I know you like him and do all you can to boost him, but how can you possibly use the words "Alford" and "objectivity" in the same article?

That would be as absurd as using "Republican" and "ethics" together.

  10. 20 years and Alford still can't read a teleprompter and his feet still don't touch the ground when he sits on his motorcycle with training wheels.

  11. Do you all day drink often?

  12. "We were told that the issues were too complex for us to understand, that we were wasting our time, that we were too young to be taken seriously, that we were being blindly led by Communists, etc."

    All of which was true.

  13. NO, it wasn't true.

It was at this time that the voting age was lowered to 18. If you could be drafted at 18, then you should be allowed to vote at 18.

    We changed the world!

  14. Alford is not a bad guy, but please always keep in mind that he's a mental simpleton who gets paid to read a teleprompter and look pretty.

He's not stupid, but smart enough to begin planning his next career move before he's shown the door at Fox4. Because he's in broadcast media, he's a narcissist, so he's been raising his public profile in hopes of possibly moving into public relations or even elected office. Mayor of Knobtown perhaps?

Awkward moment at the recent Fake News, American Public Square event. Alford mentioned that he was ready to celebrate a record-setting 20 years on the air, and paused for the audience applause, but it never came! People don't care about talking heads anymore, they have the TV on in the morning as background noise.
