KANSAS CITY JOURNALISM FACT CHECK: PLATTE COUNTY LANDMARK BROKE THE ZONA ROSA CRISIS STORY!!!

Local MSM loves to pat themselves on the back when it comes to reporting complex civic issues but the reality is that local community news often leads the discourse weeks and months before bigger news outlets catch up . . . And so, while local corporate newspapers talk about the Northland economic hot mess of a shopping district this week . . . Here's a link to the organization that broke the story:

Platte County budgeting for potential Zona disaster

  1. A few yeas ago the Netherlands got a belly full of having local government on every freaking block so they went in to areas that have five to 15 little towns around a metro and they consolidated the local governments into municipalities. comprised of all the little and big towns in a giver populus area. They maintained wardsmanship but forced a single government structure to preside over the governed areas. The country has saved billions every year by elimination duplication of effort, redundant legislations, confusion between ordinances when crossing city lines, elimination of redundant court and governmental system, rod maintenance, health care, etc. Wouldn't it be terrific if could eliminate all of this bigh shot, boss hog, big fish little pond bullshit that places ridiculous demands and expectations from citizens over government incompetence? Do we really need all of this local bullshit government creating these endless messes and engaging in endless pet projects?

  2. The Netherlands, like all Civilized Countries, is a NATION!
We, on the other hand are a FEDERATION - the futility of having individual "States" in this Country was amply demonstrated from 1861 to 1865, but we've never been able to learn anything from that disaster.

If we ever are forced to recognize that "Civilization" requires "Nationhood", probably in the aftermath of some political disaster, we may have a chance of catching up with the rest of the World.

  3. Sounds like the Developers of Zona Rosa have drawn all the cash they conveniently can out of it, so it's now time to walk away and let the dead husk fall onto the Taxpayer's backs!

Hope the "little white envelopes" that made their way onto the County Government desks were nice and thick.

  4. Exactly, 4:58. And I am disappointed that DeBergerac didn't stay on topic, and remind us all that the Retail Apocalypse subsidized by TIF's and CID's and other Retail Welfare is upon us. Zona Rosa is a big domino, in that it was upscale out of the ground.

Whereas in Joco, MOST of the welfare is for remodelling and new signage and curbs for ailing old school strip malls.

And of course, it's only a matter of time before Cordish goes bankrupt in the Power and Light District. KCMO taxpayers already subsidize their rent to the tune of $15 million a year. And that's before the $17 million Prius Parking Lot!

Cities and counties: heed the warnings. Just say no. If a retail space can't afford to rehab or be built, or if John Petersen at Polsinelli comes calling, claiming the city needs to subsidize upscale apartments in a sea of Section 8--just say no!

The DeBergerac Depression is around the corner. The Retail Apocalypse will drag cities and counties down (and their taxpayers) worse than the bank meltdown and recession of 2007.

Because the banking crisis was a crime, which was then nipped in the bud by changing regulations. Tho no one went to jail. Hmmm.

Whereas the cities and counties getting into the rehab and retail business is going to be spun as "just a big strategic mistake".

Oh, by the way, 4:58. Usually it is not little white envelopes to bureaucrats. The way it's done is campaign contributions to the elected officials, who HIRE and could FIRE the bureaucrats. Plus, the free big ass mini-billboards at all the retail locations.

    INCLUDING OF COURSE, ZONA ROSA!!

  5. TRACY IS ON THE MONEY. ONE TWO THREE LIGHT WILL ONLY HAVE A FEW LIGHTS ON AND THE NEW DOWNTOWN HOTEL. THE WEALTHY WILL HOLD ON TO THERE MONEY MIDDLE AMERICA WILL HAVE FEWER DOLLARS BECAUSE OF INFLATION. YOU KNOW SEVENTY PERCENT OF AMERICANS ARE ONE PAYCHECK FROM DISASTER. THE HOME VALUES WILL FALL. INTEREST RATES ARE ALREADY STARTING TO RISE. THE BUSINESS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PAY People Eighty-five Thousand dollars a year or even half that.
