Finally, a video climax to months of griping about local property owners that would make the author of "Kill my landlord" proud . . .
"Nick Haines moderates a townhall discussion on KC's affordable housing issues. The panelists includes Tara Raghuveer, eviction researcher; Terrence Wise, an evicted tenant; Jacob Wagner, UMKC Center for Neighborhoods; Gina Chiala, Heartland Center for Jobs & Freedom; Chuck Schmitz, former President of Landlords Inc. of Kansas City; and Dan Kelly, an attorney specializing in landlord tenant law."
Take a look:
You decide . . .
Watched the show - not a lot of content, beyond the fact that all Landlords are the Spawn of Satan, but we already knew that didn't we?
ReplyDeleteThe panel was loaded four to two, Tenants vs. Landlords, and those allowed to speak, amazingly, broke down into the same ratio as the panel.
Anyone who watched the show and listened to what was said would have to agree that absolutely all Landlords should be tarred and feathered before being ridden out of town on a rail.
The amazing thing that I noticed most was that this was the most balanced and objective presentation that I have seen on KCPT in years!
Eviction is a 100% legal means to rid yourself of deadbeat tenants. I applaud this Fail-Safe build into the Missouri legal system.
ReplyDelete8:00 your an idiot
ReplyDeleteThis is a national campaign. Not sure what they want: if landlords can't evict tenants for nonpayment of rent of for trashing the property, there will be no more landlords and a lot less rental property. Maybe the push is for that to happen, so the government (national, state, or local) can buy rental properties and lease it on the taxpayer dime to their supporters in exchange for votes. That's the way it usually works, and as a result we get stuck with a streetcar.
ReplyDeleteThe effort is obviously well organized and well funded. Who is doing the organizing and where is the money coming from? Looking forward to the Star's expose on that!
Time for landloards to require a credit, employment history and reference application with a complete verification and background check paid for by the potential renter. Fuck this pandering to the dregs bullshit.
ReplyDeleteWatched the show and it was typical "The landlord is picking on me". The fact came out loud and clear that Millennials don't understand that there is a profit motive behind a business transaction. They understand they want to profit but say the landlord should not. They want the owner to "understand" when they can't pay rent. One segment showed a tenant complaining about the landlord when while watching a big TV in the place he was being evicted from.
ReplyDelete9:30 the owner of the development company I have worked with for 18 years does just that kind of tenant check before a lease is signed. As a rule when you hand them the application if they are a deadbeat they will most of the time hand it back knowing full well you won't rent to them. The background and credit check fee is refunded upon signing a lease with them.
ReplyDelete@ 8:37 Thank you!
ReplyDeleteBeing called an "Idiot" by the likes of you proves I got things right and doing that irritated the hell out of you, didn't it?
8:37 Your F grade in English and spelling is obvious. "Your" should be you are or you're. Comments by ignorant posters are dismissed as having no value.
ReplyDelete^^ OOPS! The "Boss Of The World" forgot to take their Meds again!
ReplyDeleteEvery year, the slumlords raise the rent, white claiming depreciation on their tax returns. Slumlords & flippers are the reason that young people can't afford to own a home.
ReplyDeleteNotice that whether it's slumlords or landlords the common word is lords.
Christians love being called lord.
I live in a KCMO "second tier" suburb north of the River, and have watched young working couples, Black, white, Hispanic, Immigrant and every mix you can think of buying small '50s houses and moving in.
ReplyDeleteThey have been coming, from the Northeast, Midtown, and Waldo areas of KC and from Wyandotte and Johnson counties for years.
They want decent schools, lower crime rates and affordable housing, and this is where they are finding it.
The only drawback is that you have to be willing to forgo receiving any City Services, endure irresponsibly long Police, Fire and Ambulance response times, and be willing to band together with your neighbors to hire or perform repairs to streets, clear snow, and so forth.
Look North, you'll be surprised (and welcome).
Ummm if you're from City Hall, or if you are a Councilperson, (especially 4th District) ignore my post at 1:27 - I was just kidding, EVERYTHING'S FINE!
ReplyDeleteGo back to sleep, just ignore us, shhhhh, we're not really here, thaaaats it - shhhh now, dum dee dee, dum dee dee.dum dee dee dum dee deedee.
11:58 AKA 8:00 it still doesn't remove the whole point being made that you're stupid. Saying another is stupid don't hide the fact it was you who first showed their ignorance.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, if the landlord cannot evict tenants for property damage or nonpayment of rent they might as well just bulldoze it, pave it and turn it into paid parking. It would doubtless turn a better profit then renting to Goodreads who destroy thousands of dollars worth of property and don't pay rent.
ReplyDeleteIdiot, and now Stupid, I am doubly blessed today.
ReplyDelete^^ I have an idea. Stop buying residential property that you don't want to live in. You want other people to pay your mortgages for you. Fuck that. Get a job.
ReplyDelete6:26 I will add to the list that you're mainly retarded loser. There are you happy now?
ReplyDelete7:34 What the fuck are you smoking. I suppose if farmers don't want black bumbs mooching off the tax payers for thier commodities they should sell thier land? The problem isn't the business folks or property owners. th problem is about irresponsible ass holes who refuse to contribute to society, refuse to live to the minimum standards of humanity and think the world owes them everything. Fucking dumb ass.
