Last year around this time Kansas City politicos threatened voters with higher water rates if the electorate didn't approve general obligation bonds and so the de facto tax increase passed easily under sketchy circumstances wherein abandoned local polling places didn't match voting numbers at all.
And now . . .
THIS WEEK KANSAS CITY IS RAISING FEES, RATES AND CITY HALL FUNDING FOR THE WATER DEPT. THAT'S DROWNING IN RED INK!!!
Check the sloppy and secretive unsigned ordinance containing a hodgepodge of clauses that will inevitably cost local customers even more money . . .
Ordinance #180138: adjust charges for water service and impose a two percent payment in lieu of taxes upon the City Water Fund’s gross revenues derived from water services to the City’s residential and commercial customers to be paid to the General Fund and charged to residential and commercial customers
Again, what locals need to watch here is that it's not just rates but FEES that the Water Department is using to gouge customers as the cost threatens to sink local workers.

ReplyDeleteIf you look at your bill, the water is only 15 to 20 bucks for an average user. The rest of the bill which is another 80 to 100 bucks is the slush fund.
Troy has always hidden the extra money sLIE needs for his developers free money in the water bill. There’s no way to prove where that money goes.

ReplyDeleteMy understanding is east side customers are the first to get their water cut off for nonpayment, and frequently water is cut off even when the bills are paid because reinstatement fees are a major source of revenue for the Water Department and people in other parts of the city won't put up with being treated so shabbily.

ReplyDeleteWater Bills, that monthly charge a city can bill you for and there isn't much you can do about other than pay it or do without. Water, that natural free flowing product till your city water department gets a hold of it and freely decides how much you have to pay for what they get for free. But every human being has to have water in order to live. You can go days without food but you can't go long without water and the cities know it. You need water for health and sanitary reason and you can't protest high costs by not using it and the cities know this. When you get your water bill every month pay it knowing with no doubt you are being screwed over once again by the city that claims to love ya. Ha that's a laugh, they only love your check book and daily they think of ways to get more of it

Which can be spent on pretty much anything.
Ask all the subsidized developers where all that property tax money that should be going to the general fund goes.
