Take a glimpse at the scale of Kansas City's housing crisis as activists hope to crack down on slumlords, government housing and high-rise subsidy.
Description:
"Between 9,000 - 10,000 eviction cases are tried each year in Jackson County. That number is only a fraction of the total forced moves; we cannot measure informal evictions that never make the court system, but we do know that they exist. With this interactive map we encourage you to explore how evictions have impacted your community in the hopes of raising awareness."

And so the down side of this "activism" is that property owners will no longer be allowed to make a profit form their work and will now just have to let the "activists" live for free.
ReplyDeleteGreat plan. Can't wait to see the ordinances they come up with.
This implies that eviction is bad? If you have a tenant that is paying on time why should anyone not evict that tenant? They have every right to do so.
ReplyDeleteHow about the activists pay the rent to keep people who won’t pay from being evicted. If not, shut the fuck up.
ReplyDeleteThe map does not tell us anything that we did not strongly suspect anyway.
ReplyDeleteAs a former landlord, I'll give a few free tips to avoid eviction.
ReplyDelete1. Pay your rent. Pay it before the next rent payment is due.
2. Don't break things. The fixtures in your home belongs to someone else.
3. Don't cause disruption or harm to others. Your neighbors have a right to life a safe and peaceful life.
That's my free advice. Follow these three tips and we'll get along just fine.
The map inaccurately portrays everything as being in the Kansas City School District.

In other words, @ 9:44, you are saying that every African-American Renter in Kansas City has been evicted, and every Landlord in KC is racist, right?
ReplyDeleteBecause otherwise your post would make you look like a dumbass trying to be snarky.
9:20 a.m. poster says that the map shows everything is located in the KC School District. Well, except for the section that's inexplicably labeled NORTH Kansas City School District. WTF?
ReplyDeleteI do agree that the map is useless. Somebody actually got paid to create this piece of crap.
Could we please have a black unemployed resident map so we can compare?
ReplyDeleteLOL...but, uh...hey, yeah seriously.
DeleteEviction rates are so high due to the laws on the books to deal with such. If you play the cards right you could almost only pay rent maybe 3 months out of the year and live rent free the other time as you are waiting to be kicked out by court order. If a landlord could prove you to be 60 days in errors with no proof of even trying to work it out you should be out on the street in 48 hours. A friend's daughter who refuses to work or be a productive citizen has pulled this scam for well over 20 years and gets away with it only because the current laws on the books allows it to happen.
